dude you need to seriously think about what you just said because you just made yourself sound stupid as hell. I may not know everything about cars, but I do know the basics, what everyone should know, enough to keep my car up and going, you my friend, need spelling lessons, not racing. if racing is the sport of all sports then why is soccer the world's most popular? do you know? of course you don't, so please stop talking about what you know nothing about..

I think it is a sport, so the racers dont have to be hardened atheletes, but thats because they dont need to, and have other attributes such as fast reflexes.

Racing is one of the trashiest things I can name. I have been by the indy 500. Nothing but rednecks. It is not a sport.

You have a riced up mustang, to each their own.

In Europe and the rest fo the world Formula 1 is a glamour sport for the rich and famous.

To me a sport is something specialized not everyone can do it let alone do it well.
NASCAR .Driving at 180 miles an hour with 40 other cars doing the same thing . Not only not getting killed , but communicating to the crew chief weather you car is loose or tight. Weather the tires need 4 changes or 2 or any at all weather the car your drafting is having any other problems other than having a hard time maintaining control because your drafting it , weather passing is clear or when you pass will you eat metal flying around 200 miles per hour. Not to mention a million other things like not running out of gas, engine and drive train adjustments. Chassis and suspension fine tuning . Just to name a few. All while simultaneously competing to win. These people are more than athletes. Their engineers, mechanics, and technicians as well I've seen plenty of rednecks at football, hockey and even baseball games. A sport is not measured by it's fans.Otherwise almost all sports would be in trouble. NASCAR is more than just a sport.
NASCAR is awesome.

So the doctors who operated on my kidney stone are in some sort of sport when they're operating on people? Quick reflexes make the drivers athletes? Then my nephew, who is really good at XBox is engaged in a sport when he's playing video games? My cousin who is a pilot and flew in combat during Viet Nam was an athlete because of the speeds he had to fly and how fast he had to react? Working with highly dangerous chemicals doesn't make me any more an athlete than any other geek I've worked with...lol

My 2-cents worth i may or may not piss some of you off sorry. I grew up near Richard Petty and knows him personally and watched Kyle play football (quaterback)when he was in High School. My cousin use to drive one of his trucks...that's right. before he relocated to Mooresville.

I was a racing fanatic back in the day and went to races in Rockingham, Hickory, Day-
tona, Charlotte, Bristol, Martinsville and the Southern 500 in Darlington SC.

H_ _l , i even remeber when Fireball Roberts went over the rail in the Daytona race correct me if i'm wrong and watching the race in which the GR8 #8 lost his life (sad day) for the racing community.

Do i consider it a sport? Yes to some degree. I know they have to have great vision and extraordinary reflexes, mental toughness and stamina to stay seated in a car(no air-conditioning) for extended periods of time but what puzzles me is? How in the h_ _l they do it?

Oh! been by Richard Childress home plenty of times

There is no right or wrong answer to this ongoing forum but here is the definition of "sport":

A game; a merry-making; out-of-door recreation, as shooting, horse-racing, etc. jest; object of mockery; a plant or animal that differs from the normal type. To divert (oneself); to wear in public. To play; to frolic; to practise the diversions of the field"

Ask ole Michael McDowell how he felt after his wreck qualifying; I'm sure he was just or as sore as one of those BIG NFL football players that gets hit all night during a game (same injuries can be had).

Who gives a damn if each person considers it a sport or not, it's all in what we like to watch for entertainment (all sports are entertainment). I just wish my job was a sport so I could get paid like these people.
