Gettin old ain't for babies!!!
Darn straight!! Not only do we have to fight the "easy to gain pounds" syndrome, we deal with skin that's hanging in places we didn't realize it could hang. The men our age are looking for the tone, all-together woman in their younger years, the older men are taking viagra (hm, guess there's nothing wrong with that actually) and we're sitting here pumped up like a fire-ball because we're in the spice of our life, alone, and many men can't see past the "body issues".
Oh yeah, we could go to the gym and work out 50 times a week. But then our arthritis yelps a loud OUCH, our backs scream for attention, they don't make workout suits with 3/4 length sleeves and shorts below the knees, our skin sways in the wind of the stationary bike and the showers.....LMAO....I ain't EVEN goin' there. With health issues, many, many times working out doesn't take care of all the flaws.
Feeling sorry for myself....nah. Just facing reality. It's an ugly world out there. lol
So I sit back, enjoy nature, my children/parents, take my 45 min. walk every day, yearn to laugh my butt off in with people, try to be honest and kind and give a piece of my mind to the "young & restless" when they DESERVE it. Man, getting old brings a lot of boldness. Gotta love THAT part.
Getting old...it has it's ups and downs!! But one thing I've learned in life, you can't dwell on the disappointments life serves or you'll be wearing a straight jacket and be on drugs that make you want to commit suicide.
Life does promise hope, and if it's not in hand, well, it's just around the corner baby. Eyes open and heart full of love...that corner will turn faster then you could even imagine. Oh...and eyes on the "Maker"!!
Sweet hugs to everyone, Shells

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 6/4/2006 7:28:26 AM | I sure thought so when I turned 45, but was able to overcome it and learned that my world did NOT come to an end. Now I'm fairly content. Guess you could correctly call me a 40s-something survivor. | |

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 6/4/2006 10:37:55 AM | greeneyes ... you're saying things like "I'm creeping up to" and you're "totally bummed"
Woman think about the alternative ...
If your friends are talking like that also no wonder you look at them and think they're old ... time to find some new friends with new attitude.
Th 40's and 50's of today are not that of our parents ... sure there are days where we feel a little more tired than others but that's when you go to the spa and recharge.
Embrace each moment you have on this earth and don't buy into the 'old' thing ... I hope to be around for a long, long time ... I've been blessed with some great example of 'old' woman who lived young in my family.
Health and life to you! | |

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 7/3/2006 2:45:18 AM | | Turning 30 was the worst...wondering why I wasn't yet retired........stupid investments will do that. 50 was a piece of cake, had a toast with my ex's parents. AGE is truley a state of mind. I don't know about any one else, but I havn't a clue what "50 something" is supposed to feel or act like. But in response to anothers post, one thing is for sure, I DO appreciate the maturity of "50 something women" . | |

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 7/3/2006 7:20:05 AM | | Considering the alternative (death), it ain't so bad to be older. I'm 46; don't feel it..don't act it....age is a state of mine. So get outta that state ! | |

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 7/3/2006 8:35:47 PM | It's not the end of the world. You're only as old as you act. Heck, I'm 48 and I don't feel one minute older than 50. LOL I'm the oldest "kid" on my block! It's just another day, don't sweat it. | |

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 7/3/2006 11:35:30 PM | My French teacher used to say - back in my 30s - that life starts at 40. That time I was thinking: "What does she mean by it"?! Something to look forward or run for the woods???? Well, I've passed securely & safely that 'threshold' of 40 and one priceless thing I discovered -live the life to enjoy it, look for pleasures and pursuits that make you smile & happy and SHARE it! Positive attitude w i n s and takes you further than excuses and pointed finger.
Passing 45? Oh yes, another element I've realised too. No rushing and dashing, on the contrary, a gourmet in many directions
P.S. BTW, my French teacher was 100% right!

Oh yeah Pickles - I'm loving every minute of those over 55 discounts - but then again, being a Scot, being cheap is 2nd nature to me . . . Tsk - did I really say that!!? I meant to say us Scots are a thrifty bunch

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 7/5/2006 6:29:56 PM | With age comes grace and confidence. I have more men hitting on me now then I did in my 20's. It's only the beginning. Take good care of yourself, always look your best, and smile, smile, smile! | |

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 7/6/2006 2:16:31 PM | Quirks About Life You Notice By The Time You Are 50:
Most people deserve each other. All the good ones, no matter what it is, are taken. The one who snores will fall asleep first. The length of a marriage is inversely proportional to the amount of money spent on the wedding. The gifts you buy your spouse are never as good and apropos as the gifts your neighbor buys their spouse. Never get overly excited about a man/woman by just the way they look from behind. If you help a relative in need, he/she will remember you the next time they are in need. The probability of meeting someone you know increases greatly when you are out with someone you do not want to be seen with. Toothaches always start on Friday night right before the weekend when the Dental Office will be closed.
