| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 7/17/2006 9:03:56 PM | | Was turning 45 supposed to be a bad thing? I missed something I guess. It just felt like another day to me. Maybe when I turn 50 it will hit me differently. Nah.....I'm with wanda....NOT turning 50 will be the worst thing that could happen. I've got 3 years to think about that one. My birthday wish...in advance...is finding someone to be with me for the party when I hit the big 5-0. | |

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 7/18/2006 6:27:54 AM | | LOL!!!! 45? Piece of cake. Hitting 60 was a bit of a bummer, but the best was 50. It really hit my dad hard when he realized he had a son 50 years old. It sure took the sting out of it for me. | |

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 7/18/2006 4:40:59 PM | I turned 45 this year and the only bad thing about it is that when you fill in questionaires the age usually goes up to 44 and 45 starts a new age category which makes you sound old since some go from 45 to 59 - other than that I love 45 and feel younger than ever | |

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 7/18/2006 8:22:47 PM | | True Turkeymel, i was sent a check in the mail a month after my birthday. The insurance company now called me a mature driver. There are some perks. Truth is, i think the 40's are great. I am more confident, truly wiser, and having more fun than at many other stages in my life. What's not to like, turned 45 this past March and i am still loving every moment. Look at it like this, it is the only time you will be 45 and make the absolute best of it! | |

I only hope and pray I have another 52 years of this and a bit healthy with my kids and grandkids around to share my life with. And some 12 step meeting friends too. They are alot of fun. Thanks God for them.

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 9/21/2009 10:47:07 AM | I turn 55 one week from today. Funny, age never seemed to bother me. Why is it that some landmark birthdays are harder on us than others. Why does age seem to make a bigger deal to women, (who are known to fib about their age sometimes) than to men.
My husband was still alive when I turned 45 and 50 and we celebrated life. It never bothered me. This birthday, I am a widow, and single, but I do have a wonderful boyfriend who is just a child of 50. Maybe that is why I am still smiling, at the age of 55 I can still turn a fella's eye.
I hope I still feel so optimistic when I face down 60.

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 9/21/2009 11:05:05 AM | I see each new age as a blessing. Each year has been, so far. Enjoy!! I'm coming upon my 69th, and still enjoying, loving, laughing, living. | |

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 9/21/2009 11:17:55 AM | Personally, I think you should really examine your own prejudices and notions about aging. IMHO your question is mainly about fearing becoming the stereotype you've already set up mentally. Get rid of those things, they're not helping your situation I'm turning 60 in a month and looking forward to it. As you think it, so shall it be | |

You look MAHVALOUS, Widows - even if you told me you were 39! I think men are supposed to look more "manly" (maybe not the right word) as we age, while women are supposed to somehow retain that youthful "beauty" It's certainly a cultural thing. It's the AARP mail I'm starting to get that bugs me, though!!! grrrrrrrrr

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 9/21/2009 11:31:33 AM | When I turned 30 I was in despair. Hadn’t done so many things I wanted to; hadn’t had a child, hated my job, hated where I lived and so on. So I changed it all, and I mean ALL. I turn 50 soon and I’m a bit apprehensive about that but it can’t be worse than turning 30. Hope you find it won’t be so bad, and if it is then make changes | |

Exactly, could not say it any better. I used to think not long ago that these stereotypes were pretty much a thing of the past, well at least for the most part but after being on POF for about 5 weeks now I can see they are alive and well.

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 9/21/2009 11:56:09 AM | Despair for me was defined by turning 49 not long after I separated from my wife. When 50 did come this past June I was ... not fine exactly, but okay with it all. Lots of gag gifts, everything wrapped in black. Most of them I'm saving to regift to my brother next year!
And when 50 turns into 51 I'll start forgetting how old I am again. I never remember w/o stopping to think about it for a moment, except when a new decade turns over.

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 9/21/2009 12:56:19 PM | My father is alive @ 89, my mom is 84. My Grandma died at 94. My aunt @ 90. My uncle @ 91 (all Dad's side of family). Not sure what side of your family controls longevity. All I know is that if I make it to 95 I will need viagra and an I.V. (and spend my honeymoon @ viagra falls... *cough*)
My friends who hiked the Grand Canyon several years ago with me, did an overnight bike trip labor day weekend. It wasn't that long, really - only 48 round trip, but not having biked much this year, it put a burn on my butt. Over dinner we all agreed that hiking the Canyon had become less and less enjoyable with each trip and with every passing year. We probably won't be doing that again, but on the bike path (beautiful paths, btw) we saw people in their 80's riding along thoroughy enjoying it. That's my plan - to keep my mind AND body in best running order I can get and enjoy life as long as I possibly can. I'm looking forward 30 years to participating in the Old Farts 3 mile bicycle race!

My father is alive @ 89, my mom is 84. My Grandma died at 94. My aunt @ 90. My uncle @ 91
My family on my mom's side seems to be equally good. Both my grandmothers lived to see 89. My maternal grandmother had sisters that all lived to their late 80s. My mom is kicking at 82, still traveling the world. Next month she is taking a four week tour of Turkey. She has been on every continent in the world, from the southern tip of South America to Austrailia to Russia and Alaska. Traveling has kept her young. If I follow the maternal gene line, I still have another 35 good years left to live. I plan to make the most of them, so I better take care of the body God gave me.
So far I look younger than most women my age. My kids keep me young too, was an older mom, so most of the parents of my children's friends are 10 to 15 years younger than I. I seem to blend right in with that age crowd.

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 9/21/2009 7:23:33 PM | highly amusing... it can hardly be "the worse" when the alternative is death...
my dad is nearly 88, my mum just 86. they're both incredibly vital, interesting people...full of life and are hardly ever home...they've many interests and both still do volunteer work.
my mum was up in a fully restored ww11 aeroplane a couple of days ago...and is today checking out a new lap top.
it's as simple as this... no matter what your age is...
if you don't use it you will lose it...

| Okay, is turning 45 the worst or what? Posted: 9/21/2009 9:20:32 PM | When I turned 40 I took up running. I figured if it killed me, then I would be saved alot of trouble. But if it didn't, I'd be getting better every year from then on. It didn't kill me .... ....and I am. Did 4 miles under 40 minutes last weekend at age 47. Couldn't run four miles at all at age 28.(or even two) I can outrun my grown sons at speed or distance and it annoys em to no end. (that alone is worth the effort/LOL)
That we have to fall apart and grow decrepit is a myth. So set some long term goals and stick with em. Write that book you've been meaning to...or take some classes. Learn to dance. Start walking every day.
Cus alot of us got a lot more time left on this planet. Best get to living it. And if old age is gonna sneak up and get me. It'll have to catch me running.
