I would love to meet a guy who loves his pets. Whenever I go to visit my friend's house, their dog and I sit to gether and I just enjoy that puppy lovin'. Right now I live in a condo, so I don't have any pets, but when I move I am going to go to a place where I can have a dog.

I'd take pets over kids anyday...I also hate getting those snotty comments from people..."oh pets aren't like kids wait until you have your own." Really? Well, when my puppy was a baby he would cry and scream and freak out if he couldn't sleep in the bed, he had pee pee accidents all over, threw up after eating the plants, terrorized the cats, destroyed everything while "teething", gets sad when I leave him, is everywhere I am, eats more then every other member of this house and knows when he's in trouble by going into the corner. So there...now what were these people saying about babies??? Ummm Hmm....

RE:To the person who said her pets weren't on her "top priority" list.
If you can't make time for your pets and not have them on your precious priority list then I would suggest you don't own any.I'm not a crazed person who over obsesses over my pup but she is on my high priority list and always will be,take it or leave it.

Peace =)

My bf says 'in order to judge a person on how they will treat you as a friend look to the relationship between that person and their pet.' Yes the same thing you are saying. It is really a true test in my eyes.

My dog is absolutly a priority ! I raised him from just a few weeks old. That dog would stand by me if the house caught on fire. It's 100% unquestioned loyalty and love from your dog no matter what and I'll always go the matt to take care of my dog and have him as an integral part of my life. If you're not a dog person then this will sound ridiculous to you. However dog people will completly understand !! Must love the Doggies !!

Hey 'Ice', I've got a rottweiller - he truly is my 'best friend' - he's 'family'. We go everywhere together. In fact, I bought a van just so he would have more room to move around (he's a 'little' cramped in the mustang) - I call it 'his' doghouse on wheels (I put his cage in though if we travel 'long distances').

'We' come as a pair - love me, love my dog! My rottie is a big 'goof' but very intimidating to look at - he's trained in Schutzhund and loves 'everyone' (other dogs included - he is not dog aggressive at all). Rotties get a 'bad' rap - it all depends on how they are brought up and treated (like most dogs, it's their owners and environment that make them aggressive....or not). Most people that own or have owned Rotties will tell you that they are great companions and just big 'saps'.

Re: 'Chick Magnet'?......hmmm wonder why I'm still single - guess I'll have to have a 'talk' with him! LOL!

Its great to read about many people here that love their pets at the level they do.

Comments and ultimatums have been given to me about my pets.

There would be a diamond ring, marriage for me if i would just get rid of my cats.

My reply was i can get my own ring if i really want one, and besides a diamond doesnt prove anything to me. I would rather see the money spent on things that matter more, that are not materialistic.

My pets and me are a package.

I will do anything for my pets, when they are ill, injured etc. Previously went through a
difficult time with my cat Vincent. His health was failing, and was advised to think about euthanizing him at the end of February. I remember that day clearly. The outlook and prognosis for Vincent was not good, i was told.

That day i spent 3 hours at the animal hospital in a room with my cat, talking with him, force feeding him, comforting him. There was not alot of response from my cat in the beginning of my 3 hour visit.

While holding him close to me wrapped in a blanket like a baby, letting my tears fall, i could feel suddenly a slight vibration of a purr. He lifted his head for me to scratch under his chin, he opened his eyes slightly, then closed them again.

A sign was all i needed that it wasnt Vincents time to go yet. And that was his way of telling me that he is still here with me. The receptionist was called in the room, and i asked her to let the veterinarian know i have gone home for the day, and no decisions will be made til tomorrow.

The next morning, when i went to visit Vincent , there was positive news. Vincent was sitting up, with his eyes open, alert, wanting to be petted and tried to eat on his own. My vet was so shocked to see that my cat was still alive that next morning. he apologized for the day previously for his suggestion. A few days later, Vincent came home, with daily trips to the vets for fluids and glucose levels to be checked. Still needing force feeding at home, for another 7 days. Finally Vincent, decided he would eat on his own.

There are daily injections and supplements given. I have had to adapt my life to his insulin schedule but i dont mind at all. To me that is part of loving an animal, just like one would do for a human who is ill.

And yes, i have had people say to me that they wouldnt have gone to such extremes, and that is ok too..but i am one who does go to the extremes for animal or human who is in my life and that i love. Actually i dont believe it is an extreme, its part of when you believe in someone, or something so strongly that you will do whatever is possible to make a difference if one can be made.

So, what would someone think about me, that puts so much effort into my pets when they are sick? Wouldnt that show that i dont give up so easily, that i am compassionate, and have a nurturing, sensitive side to me?

Would love to see that in a man too?

Oh, by the way,i have met men who are loving towards their animals and humans. The problem is they are all taken.

I had a dog 14 years named Jock who was very important to me. If people knew me they knew him. We took him everywhere we could and he had a good life. If ya think its weird...oh well....then i'm weird He was a baby in my lap and he died in my lap.

I've broken up with guys because they wanted me to get rid of my pets. Nuh uh not going to happen. I've got my two horses and my two cats.. and they're pretty close to top priority (just below eating and breathing.. eating is optional).

Hi

I LOVE my dog! She is my world! I do think of her as my child...aside from the whole "giving birth" part..she is. She gives me love, comfort and everything I need! She is my both my daughter and my best friend! I think it does say a lot about people when they treat their animals with respect and unconditional love...it shows a lot about how they are with people in general, and perhaps how they will be with their human children. Most of all, it shows a respect for living beings, and for life..knowig that beyond humans, there are species that feel, need and love.

Also to the woman who says that her two dogs are not high on her priority list...if you are looking them in the face and talking to them, you love them more than you think..and you obviously realize that they are not "just animals"..they think, they feel and they love. I am really wondering why you even have them if they are not a priority...my bet is that you are too scared to love them because you know they will die someday..that is a disgusting way of living...might I suggest you give up the dogs to someone who will care more about them, and just end you life alone so you won't ever get hurt. I hate it when people don't respect their animals, and you don't.

Any pet that I have ever had has been spoiled rotten, I always made sure and still do to spend some time every day playing with them, petting them or just letting them sleep on my chest and listening to them purr because I know they like it. Unfortunately "them" is now down to one because my oldest cat was put down as he got severely sick in such a short period of time and now my 10 month old kitten is pretty lonely so I spend even more time with her. I'm positive in the next few weeks i'll begin looking for another cat (i live in an apartment) for company for both of us but I will again get a mature older cat from a shelter that nobody else wants because they "know" their time is limited and will love you to death just like you do them. r.i.p Big Guy

edit...this is the most enjoyable thread i've read yet.

I have a cat (Lucie) that seems to think she's a human -- eats when I eat, sleeps when I sleep (and I'm sure, when I work & go to school too... that's a cat's job, isn't it?), and meows at me for coming in late. God forbid I stop at the supermarket and get things like food, right? I also think she can tell time, as she knows how to read my alarm clock. She bats me in the face very gently 3 minutes before it's due to go off. Obviously, it's time to feed Her Royal Highness.

Seriously, my cat is probably as close to a daughter as I may ever have, and I certainly would go to some harsh lengths to see to her health. Lucie and I are a package deal too.

And my love of animals is fairly general, but I prefer cats and dogs over the other "pet" animals. I dated a girl who had ferrets once. Talk about stinky little elongated rats, but they were funny to watch run around, especially on a linoleum floor!
