Just curious - we all have our things that we are looking for. A guy on another site sent me a message and I sent him a pic and we went out and dated for months. He would only send to girls with photos also but gave it a shot. I just thought it would give you more of a selection. Good Luck to you!

Say, magickman, you are correct about being flexibility being the key to meeting others. On the other hand, being more stringent on criteria, means fewer possibilities. This equals slimmer pickings. Then again when picking for oneself, doesn't deserve the best, (best being a matter of prespective)? I have met a lot of who I would consider really great people, But there just seems to be a lack of people willing to take off to sail to a lot of exotic places. This is just one of the things that would be a deal breaker , to prohibit me from getting involved with who would otherwise be a most agreeable and wonderful lady. My choice.

"are you a part of the posting police" -Hell no! and yes you are right I did get off topic - sorry.

When I asked what has this to do with the topic, I though that person was starting a new thread in the middle of this one. My mistake.

Slim pickin's may get worse if we limit our search. We all have deal breakers, and so we should.

If I see a profile with no picture, rightly or wrongly, I think there is someone who has an issue with being seen. If that person messages me, and includes a picture fine, then I will talk with them. Some have tried their logic that I should meet with them without knowing what they look like. My time and energy is valueable to me, and I use it wisely, and have no time for this type of nonsense.

Also, I am comfortable with my behavour, and want to be with a person who is comfortable with theirs. If they are uncomfortable with being here for any reason, I would not be comfortable with them.

Prefer not to say is another that make the pickin's slimmer for me. I am an up
front person, and want the same in the people in my life.

I think slim pickin's is a good thing. Too much drama if pickin's are too wide to use good judgement.

I find that there are even slimmer pickin's in employees than in datingland. Picking the right employees is much more stressful that selecting dates. Date employees - I don't think so.

And you don't have to pay a date's benefits.....

The biggest benefit a date gets from me is that they have the choice to never talk to me again!!

Would if I could, but I can't. Too many miles (or kilometres) in between. But thanks, Tarheel, for looking out after me.

Hey, yeah, it just dawned on me. Duh, it's easy to offer beers when you live that far apart! Guess Eddie will never have to pay up, eh? (That's the Canadian "eh", eh?)

Being the polite Canuck that I think I am, you never look a gift horse in the mouth. Draft beer will be just fine, thank you. I drink 'merican beer anyhow because it's waaaaaay cheaper than the liquid gold that's called Canadian beer.

Okay, now let's get back on topic or we will all be in trouble with the mods.

Back to topic, I think the amount of "pickin's" in my case is as much a matter of my narrow search criteria as anything. There are women looking to meet men around here but I don't embrace the option of driving over an hour each way to eat dinner in someone else's house or to watch a movie on their 27 inch tv.

I don't have a lot of expendable income to be wining and dining women very often, and women won't come to a man's house because for the most part they think we are all rapists and sexual offenders by nature.

Factor in the rigid stand I take on smokers. There are 5 women near me I think are gorgeous bordering on stunning. They smoke. I won't even email them once so I don't risk developing any feelings for a smoker and facing a huge issue later.

Now add my preference to not leave my dog home alone for hours at night after she is home alone for hours all day when I am at work (and work is 6 days a week for me because I work in my side business on Saturdays). I get invited to visit people for weekends, but if I can't bring my dog I can't go, because I don't trust anybody to dog sit with her. I don't have that many friends to start with, and most of the friends I do have also have families and are not about to leave their wives at home to come and stay here.

I haven't added in yet how many women don't trust men and blame all men because their ex was a drunk, or a cheater, or an abuser.

No matter how many times I assure someone that I don't have an aggressive bone in my body and present this concept, nobody will believe it. I will try once more.

If I give you my name, my address, my phone number and a map to my house, do you think it somehow escapes me that should I do anything out of line you can use that same information to get the police here immediately, at which point they will take me to jail? If I met you at a bar, I could force my way into your car as you leave and harm you there and then flee, and you would have no way to track me down to have me arrested. (If that kind of violence was on my mind, you wouldn't know my real name, oer where I live, or my real cell phone number. That type of violent act is usually premeditated to that degree.) You are safer here in my house than you are "in public". No drunker jerk will annoy you here. Nobody will pinch your ass here. I am so meek and mellow, I don't even raise my voice much less be aggressive toward a woman. I'm from the 60s, the peace and love generation.

So as kind of a wrap up of my thoughs on this issue which seems to be coming to a close, it seems that I have pretty much answered my own question. "Pickin's" rely on personal preference and personal tastes, and the less flexible someone is, the less opportunity they will have. That has been stated very well by many responders.

Good thread folks!

In this day and age,i don't think age, really matters much.If you act old, then people will persieve that, you are old.As long as you keep expectations and show that you are still younger in heart, can emjoy the same things that interest those of a different age,you shouldn't have a problem.(If i am wrong ladies, then please correct me.) A person of 30 for instance, may like someone older,if they can keep up with them. All you have to rember,is what you did,at their age.Respect the difference and roll with it.Don't expect a 30 year old to warch rv with chips and beer. They are in the prime of thier lives.
