"""...why would you assume i was crapping on wilson?"""
I wasn't passion. Sorry if you took it that way. Just seems a lot of folks including the wingnuts on TSN and Sportsnet don't like him. But hey, they're the ones not working in their fields of expertise while they while away their days on the sports talk shows.

I started to like Wilson as a coach when he took the Caps to the Finals in 98. He's a hard a.ss that a lot of folks find fault with his style. His style however is very similar to Scotty Bowmans in his love me poor or hate me rich philosophy. He's not there to make friends with his players. I don't mind that attitude if it makes the club a winner. Quinn wasn't in Toronto to win friends with the media. neither was Burnsy. I know a lot of folks think Maurice did an admirable job, but i don't agree. He was good with the media and that's about all he was good at. That's why so many folks think he was classy.

But to me, you're not paid to give warm fuzzy interviews after every loss. You're paid to guide your club into the playoffs. And that is what Wilson does. But yes, he perhaps doesn't hold himself accountable enough for his own mistakes. I do believe he screwed up pushing nabakov for that wins record.

Pittsburgh's post-season run couldn't've happened against a better group of ***holes. First, they got revenge against the cryin'-ass Ottawa Senators. Then came the two teams the Penguins and their fans hate the most: the New York Rangers and the Philadelphia Flyers.

Respect for Detroit, though.

I say it's cinci's fault for getting pregnant in August. Shame on you. You should know better. Never have sex during the summer holidays if you want to be free for the playoffs!!!!!

(As funny as that sounds ... there are coaches who address this exact issue with players. I bet Alain Vigneault wishes he had)

Hah. I think the Oilers players should give up their wives to members of the Northwest Division during the summer months so that all the star players are not present during the end of the year so they can see their children being born. Given what some wives have thought about Edmonton in the past (see Pronger and Nylander) it could happen.

Go Oilers go in 2008/2009.

I don't care who you are, thats some funny s**t.

Actually both my girls love hockey, but they think there is only 1 period, because thats when I make them go to bed...lol. My 4 year old came home from school the other day and told me she got a "hat trick" in gym class...playing soccer. I'm also proud to say one of her first words was Khabibulin... my dad has season tickets to the Lightning. Now she just loves Daytsuk, because he plays for the Red Wings aka "blood sketchers".

Easy there PrairieP, I'm not an idiot. She was INVITED to a birthday party. I absolutely planned around hockey season. One was born July 2 and the other October 10. I probably could have planned the October baby a little better but it was a moment of weakness. She was a honeymoon baby...cut me a little slack.

Are we seriously having a discussion around when to have sex so kids aren't born during playoffs!?!?!? It's only been a day without hockey and we're starting to lose it again! I'd hate to see our discussions once hockey playoffs are over!

Okay, deadline for tomorrow's game, 11am MST or 1pm EST.

Det/Dal

Will the Red Wings find their balls in time for the game? Hard to say on this one.

BONUS: An extra 5 much needed points to everyone picking the correct team to win if the cumulative score is over 5 goals.

My pick: Det 5 Dal 2

While we are talking about our little sprouts, one of my son's very first words was "hockey". Yeah, he's a playoff baby - born May 10 - named after Vincent Lecavalier.

I have noticed several Lightning references in my short time here. We have some killer center ice season tickets. If you know you will be in Tampa, let me know and I can hook you up with a game. It would be my pleasure for all the fun you give us here. This is a lot of work for you. Hell, it's a pain in my a** to get my scores posted in time, lol.

Don't tell anyone in Detroit but I also have a Lecavalier jersey. I leave it in Tampa so it doesn't count right? Anyway, if you named your son after him, he was a good one to pick. He donates $$$ for every goal and assist he makes at home, and the local furniture store matches it. Kane's I think, and it benefits kids. He is definitely in Stevie Y's league of finesse and ethic. Way to go MOM!!!

I looked into it and it is Kanes furniture, but I know Messier also strikes a cord with every fan of the game... if he approves of Vinny so should we. So I wanted to post this, a little long but Riot does a lot for us.

VINCENT LECAVALIER RECEIVES MARK MESSIER LEADERSHIP AWARD, PRESENTED BY COLD-FX Tampa Bay Lightning Feb 20, 2007, 12:00 AM EST Tampa Bay Center Honored For On-Ice Performance And Off-Ice Contributions

NEW YORK (February 20, 2007) - Tampa Bay Lightning center Vincent Lecavalier has been named the recipient of the Mark Messier Leadership Award, presented by COLD-fX for his leadership skills on and off the ice. Lightning President Ron Campbell presented the award to Lecavalier prior to the Lightning's game against the Florida Panthers at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa on Tuesday night.

COLD-fX, the official immune enhancer of the NHL and the NHL Players' Association, will donate $5,000 to the Vincent Lecavalier Foundation.

"I have really enjoyed watching Vincent mature into the player that he is today. Helping his team to win the 2004 Stanley Cup was obviously the end result of a tremendous commitment to becoming a better player and leader for his teammates," said Messier. "He has continued to impress hockey fans across North America with his size, strength and finesse. In many ways, he reminds me of a young Jean Beliveau. His commitment to the community off the ice and to his own foundation makes us proud to announce him as our Leadership Award winner."

Lecavalier currently leads the NHL in goals with a career-best 39 and is second in points with 80. Since the All-Star break, the Lightning have moved into a first-place tie in the Southeast Division with the Atlanta Thrashers and the two-time All-Star and the Stanley Cup winner has amassed nine goals and six assists during the 10-game stretch.

Off the ice, Lecavalier has displayed a grace and generosity that has won him as much admiration and respect as anything he has accomplished on the ice. With the official launch of the Vincent Lecavalier Foundation, known as VL-4, in December of 2005, Lecavalier formalized his passion and desire for giving back to a pair of communities that have helped shape his life.

VL-4 supports children and families in Tampa Bay, Florida and in Rimouski, Quebec, where Lecavalier played junior hockey and racked up stunning numbers for the Rimouski Oceanic. In the fall of 2006, more than 300 guests attended the inaugural Vincent Lecavalier Texas Hold 'Em Celebrity Poker Tournament, which raised more than $140,000 for VL-4. However, Lecavalier's contributions extend further.

Since 2003, in partnership with Kane's Furniture, Lecavalier has donated in excess of $60,000 to Tampa Bay's All Children's Hospital through an on-ice performance initiative. On pace to a career-best season, Lecavalier is sure to surpass any previous year's donation.

"I'm honored to be selected for the Mark Messier Leadership Award," said Lecavalier. "Having success on the ice is great, but it means very little if you don't try to make a difference in your community. I've tried to reach as many people as possible throughout Tampa during the past nine years, so receiving this award means a lot to me."

In addition to the $5,000 COLD-fX will donate to charity on his behalf, Lecavalier will receive a COLD-fX Luxury Healthy Lifestyle Gift Basket, which includes a one-year supply of COLD-fX.

Periodically, throughout the season, Messier, with input from the NHL, will recognize players for their athletic performance; ability to motivate and influence teammates; a commitment to the community and charitable causes; and a dedication to a professional attitude as a representative of their sport and as a positive role model within society. At season's end, one player will be named the Mark Messier Leader of the Year and have his name engraved on the Mark Messier Leadership Award, presented by COLD-fX. In addition, COLD-fX will donate $25,000 to the Leader of the Year winner's charity of choice. Past recipients of the award include Shanahan, Anaheim Ducks defenseman Scott Niedermayer and Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby.

In his 25 seasons in the NHL, Messier became the true definition of a leader. The six-time Stanley CupĀ® champion and 16-time NHL All-Star is widely viewed as one of the greatest sports leaders of all time. Among his numerous hockey and humanitarian honors, the recent naming of the Mark Messier Skyway at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey for his 15 years of dedication and commitment to help raise millions of dollars to benefit children with cancer and other serious blood disorders is one of the most special.

I should have known, with your love for the game, you'd know the rules about pregnancy

Have fun at the

And yes, riot, this is a serious matter!!!

OK I'll say Detroit 3-2 in OT for Game 6, although I am officially cheering for Dallas now, strictly on the basis that the TSN talking heads all wrote this series off after Game 3.
