| Monday Game Posted: 5/19/2008 9:26:06 PM | Friggin Detroit! Can't even get an empty netter so we could enjoy some bonus points!
No backbone...so who's your team of choice. They usually always play home games on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday's. If your going to plan a special trip, try to plan so you can see more than one game. We can talk more when the schedule comes out.
Anyway, I'm starting to think you may have a little problem. Did I mention, pass holders get 2 free per seat, per game. Good times!!
Oh yeah, and I'm changing my prediction too! Detroit in 6................
My team of choice at the moment is Pittsburgh. I used to be a Detroit fan, back in the days of Fedorov and Stevie Y but ever since they took on that fool Bertuzzi, I've hated them. Glad they got rid of him but they've already been tainted. Don't care much for Chelios either and his big pompous attitude. Osgood is the better goalie, compared with Fleury but the young guns with Pittsburgh could do numbers around the old folks with the Wings.
Right on, I'd love to do a Thursday-Sunday weekend trip. That would rock!
Don't worry, I just say I'm when I mess up. Makes life a bit easier and fewer questions asked! 2 free drinks per game???? Hell, I wish I lived there!
Hee...hee...good try but no changes to series predictions, only individual games prior to deadline, but for cool Lightning tix, I could look the other way....

| Result: Monday, May 19, 2008 Posted: 5/19/2008 10:48:16 PM | Det 4 Dal1
Too bad I missed most of the game. I tuned in right when Dallas scored and I must say the Red Wings looked like Dead Things! Limp, tired, old men, trying to hold on to a win. Can't even score into an empty net for crying out loud! If it wasn't for Osgood, they wouldn't even be around anymore!
kudos to kaos and smitten (word has it she was struck by lightning) who got 6 points
beeny, prairiep, riot, cincin, korrosive, passion/song & sunshine get 1 point each
smack, sly, chiefs fail again and drag down debb on her 1st effort

| Detroit/Dallas Series Posted: 5/19/2008 11:02:54 PM | I'm surprised at the amount of people who picked Dallas for this one. Chiefs & smack are always going against the grain but sly, you got dragged down in this round too. Habsman, not a good debut.
cincin, passion/song, patchesbro, korrosive, tropicalfish, prairiep, & riot get a measley 5 for calling the team
An alarmingly large amount got 10 for also calling it in 6: smitten, steelcity, beeny, sunshine, DonnyDude, & kaos.
Big winner this round is steelcity who called both series with correct number of games each for 20 points! Good thing for the rest of us that these folks who do well in the series don't post for individual games or we'd have no chance in hell!
|
| Detroit/Dallas Series Posted: 5/19/2008 11:08:22 PM | prairiep: 138 points kaos: 134 points sunshine: 133 points passion/song: 132 points smitten: 118 points korrosive: 111 points riot: 111 points DonnyDude: 97 points sly: 93 points chiefs: 92 points beeny: 85 points smack: 81 points tropicalfish: 55 points cincin: 41 points wizard: 40 points MyI: 35 points marc2b4: 35 points patchesbro: 35 points afoxtotrot: 30 points southpaw: 25 points steelcity: 20 points Iridescent: 10 points unohu: 6 points miniwheat: 5 points LeRomantique: 1 point lady_bugg: 1 point
Looks like we have a game folks!

| Finals!!!! Posted: 5/19/2008 11:12:24 PM | I'm gonna go into withdrawals here having to wait until Saturday!
So remember, series gets 20 points for the win, and an extra 20 if you get the winning team and correct number of games.
Individual games are no holds barred/no limit holdem! Go ahead and bet the farm! Remember, if you lose all your points, you're out of the game! You might get saved on the series picks but you can no longer play individual games. Make sure your wagers are next to your predictions, like smack did.
|
| Finals!!!! Posted: 5/19/2008 11:21:27 PM | Oh yeah, we never talked about OT here for the final round. If your team wins, you win your wager. If you also get the score correct, you get in addition half your wager. If you call OT and it is correct, you get the other half. If you call it and it is incorrect, you lose the half you got for getting the score.
For example, I call:
Det 4 Pitt 3 (OT) (wager:20 points)
That is the correct score and it was in OT. I get 20 for picking Det, an extra 10 for getting the score and another 10 for getting OT correct.
However, if it was:
Det 4 Pitt 3, I called OT and there was none, I only get 20 because I lost the 10 I would've got for getting the correct score.
If I called Det 4 Pitt 3 OT and it goes to 2OT, it would be considered incorrect because it didn't go to OT, it went to 2OT. Same with if I call 2OT and it was only OT, I would lose the 10 I got for the score because that is incorrect. For your sake and mine, best not to call any kind of OT.
|
| Conn Smythe Winner Posted: 5/19/2008 11:24:55 PM | | For an extra 10 points, correctly guess the Conn Smythe winner. Please post your pick before the first deadline (TBA)... No wagering needed, this is a bonus. | |
|
| Finals!!!! Posted: 5/19/2008 11:25:15 PM | Great lightning strike, I can glow in the dark...lol I only hope the next round, I won't need to be zapped....lol :
Detroit to Win in 6 .. Praying to the hockey gods.
Inquiring minds... If you pick that day's predictions for each game, do you have to put the wager beside it each time?
|
| Conn Smythe Winner Posted: 5/20/2008 2:12:54 AM | | VinnY? Stevie Y.? Give me some more time please! | |
|
| Conn Smythe Winner Posted: 5/20/2008 3:53:13 AM | CBC should pick up Pittsburgh radio announcer Mike Lange’s feed for their play-by-play, just as a treat to all canadians: "Well rake my back with a lawnmower!"
The guy's a classic.
Glad you're keeping track of all this riot. I had an aneurism this morning just reading it all.
|
| Conn Smythe Winner Posted: 5/20/2008 11:16:06 AM | This is for the all the marbles. I was behind last year at this point and won in the final round so lets make it 2 in a row.
Series prediction: Detroit in 5.
Conn Smythe: Chris Osgood
As an add-on to the comment above mine, I really hope CBC goes with Jim Hughson for the finals and not Bob Cole.

| Hockey Playoff Predictions Posted: 5/21/2008 6:44:30 PM | Riot, it was the second round that killed me. But hey, being a staunch supporter for decades of the illustrious blue and white, the phrase "wait till next year" just slides right off the tongue naturally anymore.
So, here's the way I see it. At the end of 82 games most of us had either the Ducks, the Sharks, the Stars or the Wings winning the Cup if the west didn't kick the sh1t out of each other getting there. Stars took care of the Ducks and the Sharks and the Wings waltzed right through pretty much. Even though the refs tried to get Dallas back into it by disallowing Holmstroms goal and the 6 or 7 straight minors to the Wings in the elimination game. Sidenote: Why all of a sudden would the Wings have to, or need to, or want to, take 6 interference and holding and hooking calls when they were already up 3-0???.
So, if the refs let the players decide this thing, it should be Detroit in 5 with Lidstrom copping the Connie Smyth. Hell, they have a coach of the year candidate, a probable Norris trophy winner, two selke candidates, a Byng candidate, and a Jennings trophy up against an outside shot at a Hart candidate. But having spent the last couple of days wondering why the hell the NHl is icing it's fans by making them wait 5 days to get this thing going, I surfed a lot of the American sportsblogs. Funny reading them. There's a lot of good hockey fans down there, but,it's no wonder Bettman can't sell the game down there when they constantly compare the referreeing to what they watch in fixed World Rasslin' federation bouts. It's a bit of a joke really. No wonder it ranks right up there with women's beach volleyball. Personally this has to be one of the blandest Stanley Cup Playoffs ever. There was a good many nights I surfed valiantly looking for a womens beach volleyball game to watch instead of the crap i was getting for hockey playoffs.
If Bettman has his way, his long lost stepdaughter, Cindy Crosby, will hoist the Cup up over her head some two weeks from now and the Connie Smyth in 6 games. Never in my nearly 50 years of watching, coaching and playing hockey, have i seen a hockey player whine as much to referrees as that little girl does. He makes a sham of the NHL. Oh sorry. No he doesn't do it all on his own. The refs are doing that quite well on their own in that department.
I almost always like the underdog so I'm betting against Bettman and his dreams of making this into some other game besides ice hockey. Detroit has been the best club all season and they should win this Cup. No doubt about that. They haven't had to travel much at all this year in the playoffs and their road has been fairly untrammelled. They could use their Mule back, but they should get by without him if need be.
Weather's finally gonna be good enough to plant so that's what I'll be doing over the next couple of days. If i remember there's a hockey game Saturday sometime, i remember. If i don't, i don't. Only during the two work stoppages has my interest in the NHL been this low. Not my interest in hockey mind you; just the present day NHL with their nightly assortment of bad calls. They went out on strike for a year to come up with this garbage? Hmmm. I'll make a point of being out at camp when one of the neighbours tells me who won this years Cup. That's the impact Mr. Bettman and his band of blind refs have had on me for this seasons playoffs. Just brutal. He's doing a mighty fine job of selling me off the professional game. End rant here.
game 1: Wings 4-2; 18 points
game 2: Wings 3-0; 18 points
game 3: Wings 4-3; 18 points
game 4: Pens 4-2; 19 points
Game 5: Wingedwheels 5-1; 20 points
Out. Cheers and good luck to all the players...in the games and the pool.
Have a good summer folks!
