| Stanley Cup Finals Game #3 Posted: 5/29/2008 11:27:44 AM | The Pens of today do not match up. The Oilers of 85 had an All Star line up with arguably 2 of the top 10 All Time Greatest (Gretzky and Messier). 3 or 4 of the Top 50 All Time Greats. Four or five now in the Hall of Fame. Theye were a much more seasoned team having been to 2 Cup finals previous. No contest ! | |

| Game #4 Pick Posted: 5/30/2008 12:39:41 PM | - I guess only 3 people really have a chance to win this pool. I'll be shooting for 4th place at best.
Saturday's Game: Pittsburgh 4 Detroit 3
I'll wager 30 points | |

| Game #4 Pick Posted: 5/30/2008 2:24:48 PM | Game 4: Wings clip the Penns 4-2
Points: 60 | |

| Game #4 Pick Posted: 5/30/2008 2:26:09 PM | | What's this Jazz about _3_ days between games.....In The Same City..!!!??? | |
|
| Game #4 Pick Posted: 5/30/2008 2:56:57 PM | | its crap is what it is. should be back to back, then 1 day for travel. may be different if the nhl would use the time off to pimp the next game but lack of that just makes it hard for americians that dont care about hockey to forget its even going on. | |
|
| Game #4 Pick Posted: 5/30/2008 4:02:23 PM | I'd imagine pitt to detroit is at least a good thirty minutes by an air charter flight but the NHL refused to allow the Wings to go home for this ridiculuos break. So they all hopped town yesterday morning anyway to leave Pitt for a secret hideaway for two days. NHL's deep thinkers strike again.
Meanwhile though, at least this year's Final is just kicking the crap out of last years Anaheim/Ottawa final in both the Canadian and American tv markets.
"""...The combination of Games 1, 2 and 3 have made this the highest-rated and most-watched opening games of the Stanley Cup finals since Detroit faced Carolina in 2002. The rating for Wednesday night's game represented an 87-percent increase over last year's Game 3 between Anaheim and Ottawa..."""

| Stanley Cup winners Posted: 5/30/2008 6:31:35 PM | well now i know about the new rules I'll through whatever points I have left nearest to the next even number on Pens winning on Saturday 3-2.
The pool was exciting until suddenly the rules changed...now the only way to catch up with the leaders is throw it all in!!!
As for Sly saying the TV ratings were 85% higher on last Wednesday games, well that obvious there are only 2 American teams left in the playoffs and I think the last time I checked America has 10 times the population of Canada!! That's ok My sens will get some good drafts picks this year and next year when we're in the finals yet again, we're blow the roof off this year's TV ratings!
Finally lets all pray for Luc Bourdon's family for the tragic lost to hockey last Thursday. Sometimes with all the money these young players make does not replace the luxury of being alive and well! may our thoughts and prayers be with his family this weekend!!

Gotta have a game on Saturday, even though it's no longer Hockey Night in Canada... but yeah, they've dragged it out so much, it's really lost momentum.

I think it also has to do with the fact that Sydney Crosby is playing and a lot of people who may not be Pens fans are tuning in just to see him play!

| Stanley Cup Finals Game #4 Posted: 5/31/2008 12:55:44 AM | I think the majority are taking a wait and see what everyone else is doing approach but I have to work tomorrow so oh well, here it goes:
Det 3 Pitt 2 (all in - 204 points)
It may be my only shot here. And if I'm wrong, I'm 3rd out, well 4th if you count lady_bugg. I don't mind being 4th out I guess but that won't happen as the Pens will choke.
Please post before 3pm MST (5 EST) thank you much!
BONUS: Cumulative score must be UNDER 5 (not 5 or UNDER) but completely under 5 and those who picked the correct team to win will also get 10 points. You know the drill...

Gee another game day rule after people have posted there picks... go figure.
I have scoured the Policies and Procedures manual and found a little know edict which I now choose to trigger....
The Mulligan... I claim a mulligan on my last pick and now bet all my points on a Detroit win 4-2
|
| Stanley Cup Finals Game #4 Posted: 5/31/2008 10:18:40 AM | Hmmmm ... I'm torn between ending this all right now with an all-in pick for the Peguins, or playing some prevent defence, specifically preventing smack from winning it all by just copying his pick See ... I really don't care if I win it ... I just don't want the person who suggested the wagering angle to win it :P
I'll get back to you | |

| Stanley Cup Finals Game #4 Posted: 5/31/2008 10:39:37 AM | | Yep. Exactly. The betting has turned it into very little to do with predicting the winner or the score and everything to do with the gambling aspect. | |
|
| Stanley Cup Finals Game #4 Posted: 5/31/2008 11:15:54 AM | Alright, now that I've made my point, I'll make my pick.
OK at any rate, just to maintain some sort of integrity to this pool, here we go: I said Wings in 6 at the start, so in order for that to happen, the Penguins have to win one more. I don't think it will happen in Detroit, so I will pick Pittsburgh tonight. 4-2 final. 100 points.

I never got my manual so I had to borrow someone else's. My prediction is the convenor of the pool will pull out a little known edict from the manual and start issuing one game suspensions to any player for crying in his/her cornflakes too much about the new scoring system, or any matters relating and pertaining to the official governance of the pool system.
Ya, i read it there on pg 433, section 221, subsection 214 paragraph 6:
"" ...if any player incessantly whines and threatens to take his/her ball and glove and go home if he or she can't have their own way by, refusing to place a bet, or complaining about the betting procedures, or any excessive displays of tantrums, the convenor reserves the right to suspend such player for a minimum of one game to a maximum of the duration of any whole series('s) still being contested.
Go leafs Go... oops, wrong thread.......
