| Stanley Cup Finals Game #4 Posted: 6/2/2008 5:06:39 AM | Screw it.I know i'm going to be wrong, but even with the "last place" finish i'm going to get here, i know for a fact i really didn't come last.
Pittsburgh 4 Detroit 2 ALL IN.
Cheap way to play, but this is a gambling pool now like prairie said.

| Stanley Cup Finals Game #5 Posted: 6/2/2008 10:28:38 AM | me and riot were talking about last years game pp. should get in on the chat about what you what changed for next years game. i was saying last years model was ok but needed the points to go up each round of the playoffs, i aslo dislike how the score is worth the same as a series.
well i called wings in 5 i bet according to what i knew was going to happen games 1-4 placed my bet on game 5 riding on what i called at the start of the series. if i was wrong im out. only korrivse called wings in 5 also year 1 we would be looking to draw even.
yes you had to bet big to win big, however being wrong also cost you big. look pp if your right as you said all along and the wings win in 6 then im done and dont win. your not going to win based on you picking the wrong team game 4.
|
| Stanley Cup Finals Game #5 Posted: 6/2/2008 10:38:05 AM | I'm impartial to last years model (because i won, duh) and this wasn't a bad experiment to try, i just don't think it really worked. We should all get together during the summer and figure out a way to make this work. Maybe somebody could even pitch in and help riot with the organizing, because she's pretty much done it all.
One idea i'd like to throw out there is something for the regular season carrying over into the playoffs. How that would work depends on everyone else.
|
| Stanley Cup Finals Game #5 Posted: 6/2/2008 12:18:02 PM | "your not going to win based on you picking the wrong team game 4." Yep ... and you picked the wrong team in game 3. But it's all about the betting, not about getting three of four games correct (or wrong) I realize how the points work smack. And I agreed to the system. It's just a stupid one is all. It took trying it out to realize that.
Like I said before, the wagering took the prediction aspect almost completely out of the equation. The fact that I could have pinned you down, just for the sake of pinning you down, should pretty much wipe out any satisfaction of winning this thing. It did for me, that's why you didn't see me boasting when I was on top.
Really, everyone with any points should be betting Pittsburgh, seeings how you're on top and all in for Detroit tonight.
And think about it... then we would all finish with 0 points and you could be the best of the best of the best for infinity and beyond

| Stanley Cup Finals Game #5 Posted: 6/2/2008 10:08:04 PM | | Okay, first I must say, I agree this is not a good system and we will definately never do it again. Why? Each and every person who picked Pitt to win tonight and bet all in WOULD NOT have done so on their own accord (except me). They only did so because smack picked Det. Hence, had everyone picked who they wanted to pick, instead of opposite smack, I would've been the only one who picked Pitt and of course, won! Now I feel stupid I only bet 10 measley points! End of rant. | |

That's exactly it. This doesn't work because had everyone gone with who they wanted to tonight (Det), I would've been the only one left standing! *sigh* Okay, now is really the end of my rant.

I think all of us who don't have a life already got our points and are in the top half of our group.

That might be a pretty interesting project.

| Stanley Cup Finals Game #5 Posted: 6/2/2008 10:25:02 PM | | Riot, that was a really safe play though. Nobody in their right mind thought pittsburgh was going to win tonight, especially when they were down to 5 defensemen. Fleury won that game, not Pittsburgh. | |

But I really thought they would win! I didn't think they were ready to lose it all tonight. Just the gambling part of it got me. Made me second guess myself. (Ironically, I bet more on my sportsbook than I did here on the Pens to win! Too bad I lost it there because it was over 5 cumulative score!)
|
| Stanley Cup Finals Game #5 Posted: 6/2/2008 10:36:34 PM | | Now the fun stuff begins. I truly feel Pittsburgh will win game 6 in grand fashion. This series is reminding me a lot of the Edmonton/Carolina series 2 years ago. Carolina wins the first 2 at home, Edmonton goes down 3-1, wins game 5 in overtime on the road during a special teams play, comes back to Edmonton and whips their ass in game 6. We won't mention what happened in game 7 because I punch walls everytime I think of it. I think the same thing applies here. | |
|
| Stanley Cup Finals Game #5 Posted: 6/2/2008 10:42:04 PM | OK, some big moves tonight on all fronts. No bonus points because those darn teams insisted on scoring. **stards! Cumulative score was not under 5.
passion/song: 388 points korrosive: 344 points prairiep: 292 points riot: 10 points Ranger: didn't pick a score but finally gets one right!
If I didn't have to post my pick so early, I probably would've went all in too, seeing that korrosive and passion/song did just that as well as prairiep.
On the flipside, we lose a few players:
unohu: good thing you didn't wager sly: -20 points cincin: -45 points smitten: -60 points sunshine: -144 points smack: -670 points (wow! I would call that a big mistep!)
|
| Stanley Cup Finals Game #5 Posted: 6/2/2008 10:51:39 PM | passion/song: 776 points korrosive: 689 points prairiep: 584 points riot: 428 points DonnyDude: 261 points smitten: 98 points sly: 92 points tropicalfish: 55 points wizard: 40 points MyI: 35 points marc2b4: 35 points patchesbro: 35 points afoxtotrot: 30 points southpaw: 25 points steelcity: 20 points Iridescent: 10 points kaos: 10 points unohu: 6 points miniwheat: 5 points beeny: 1 point LeRomantique: 1 point cincin: 1 point (forgot about the even number rule, that means you only lost 44 points) sunshine: 1 point smack: 0 points chiefs: 0 points lady_bugg: 0 points Ranger: -4 points
So in one fell swoop, we lost our point leader, smack, as well as sunshine and cincin. The 4 power players emerge but it's not over yet. Remember when everyone thought it was over when smack was on top? Well, anything can happen! It all depends on Game 6 and how we choose to play it!
|
| Game 6 Posted: 6/2/2008 11:08:14 PM | I find it interesting that no one picked Pitt to win in 7 for the series.
A few people still have a chance at the series winners:
smitten, kaos, DonnyDude, prairiep, and cincin picked Det in 6. namats, passion/song, sunshine and tropicalfish picked Det in 7. Zeppelin picked Pitt but didn't state in how many games.
|
| Game 6 Posted: 6/2/2008 11:23:16 PM | its not a misstep i called in 5 i dont want to win if i was wrong. i planned from the start to go all in game 1,2, 4 and 5. couldnt call 3 cause i thought that the pens would win 1 at home, so i was not going to bet win just 50 like i said. if you call it in x amount of games how can you not stand by your pick when the time to play comes?
a massive overhaul needs to be made next season. no way in the reg season or anytime guessing the score be worth the same as calling a series right or the amount of games in a series.
looking back at the betting points would have been better if we bet points oh the series not the game, but had to be correct about of games to win any points.
17 more days till the entry draft.

| Game 6 Posted: 6/3/2008 4:56:02 AM | Remember this post smackem....
one has to wounder if the wings are going to choke as bad as kaos did in our pool.
and get the hell out of here, stick a fork in kaos he is out!!!!!!!!!! na na na na hey hey goodbye.
Gee smack what's caught in your throat now?
