The Yankees are spending more ,because they make more...the only merit that they have ,is the fact that they are playing in the biggest market in north america...that allows them to sell more commercial time ( at a higher rate ),then any other team...dont forget, the Yankee's,own their own pay per view channel, who broadcast all of their game's...the selling of commercial time generate millions of $,and it's easier for them to sell that commercial time, because they have a market that interest the major sponsordship...how many team's can say the same ?The Yankee's dont make more money because of their history...they make more money because they have the biggest market...The Montréal Canadien's in hockey, are the second most winningful team in the history of sport's ( they won the Stanley cup 24 time in their history, compare to 26 W.S,for the Yank's)...they also have the biggest attendance in the whole league ( all of their games were sold out this year )...still before the salary cap was implanted, they had a pay list of about 33 millions $,witch ranked them 15 th in the league ...there is a lot of team in the NHL,that makes more money then Montréal,only because of their market...The New-York Rangers ,for example,or The Toronto M aple Leaf,s ,make more money than the Canadiens because they have a bigger market...( and god know,s that it's not for their winning tradition )...Bigger market =more money, more commercials deals ,more sponsordship...This is the normal way to do things in a capitalism system...MLB,is the only major sport, where the gap between rich and poor is so flagrant, and MLB , is also the only sport, who did nothing about it...that's why this league is a joke...more then half of the teams are eliminated from the race after the first month of the season...So what does the Yankees fan have so much to brag about ?having their team ruling the most insipid and boring major sport that exist ?

That's exactly what I'm saying...

Odds of the Yankees winning whenever they take the field are ALWAYS between 55% and 65%... no matter who they play...because of the money factor. They ALWAYS have the best players...

If there was a salary cap, they wouldn't have that. We know this.

Many yankee fans would not be baseball fans at all if their teams stood the same chance of losing as the rest of us. It's playing a game without risk of losing.

Even the players know this. During a rain break in the world series between the Yankees and the Braves in the mid-fifties, Warren Spahn, Johnny Sain were caught by the Braves coaching staff at the ballpark showing Whitey Ford how to throw a scuff ball.... IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SERIES.

Now how open is that?

Being a yankee fan is so safe... it's like rooting cowboys against indians... the history has already been written... over and over... or for a pack of hyenas against single lions.... or rattlesnakes against mice or something...

I really don't see how it even can be called a "game" sometimes. It's more like some Passion Play in Europe about "New York, New York" or something...

and for the money factor, it's like the dark side in the Star Wars movies... they're always able to make the best players from other teams join them because they always have more money to offer... anyone they really want.

If Jason Giambi plays good against them and is the best player on the teams that ALMOST beats them, they get him on their team. If Roger Clemens beats them, they get him. If Johnny Damon beats them, they get him...

If you're an MLB fan and you're doing anything but rooting for the Yankees, you may get a team that (at best) wins the world series about once every 20 to 90 years... With the Yankees, it's one out of about every 3 or 4.

Why am I against this?

I've played the game and I love it. MLB has made it into a very bad joke.
Face it...

anticon, you are absolutely rigth, and i do share your point of view...im also a baseball fan...The problem with some Yankee's fan,is that ,they are only Yankee's fan,not fan of baseball ( im not saying all of them, but some of them )
Any baseball fan should be worried about how the game as turned in to...Why cant a fan of the Kansas city Royals for example, shouldnt be allowed to expect from is favorite team ,to be competitive ,and get a fair chance in winning something, sometimes, just because is favorite team doesnt belong in a so call big market ?
Out of the 30 teams in MLB...we already know at least 20 of them ,before the season, who have no chance's in getting in the post season...who can call this competition?
The OP,of this thread ( who is obviously a Yankee fan ,not a baseball fan),easily points out the gigantest contract givin to A-ROD by the owner of the Texas Rangers ,( msg 42 ''but who was the one who signed Arod to a 252 million dollar contract? not the Yank's)...as if this could excuse all the inflation done by Steinbrenner , well before this contract was sign.If Arod did receive such a contract ,it s because of the inflation on salary that goes on in MLB.Who contribuated the most in building this inflation Jay?...the Pitsburgh Pirates?...the Milwaukee Brewer's?...the Kansas city Royals?...No the answer is George Stenbrenner, owner of the Yankees...and it's funny to see, that this same contract ,was bougth by the Yankees!!!...When the Rangers got rid of A-ROD ( because they coudn,t pay is salary anymore ),the only team who really made a bid in having him,was the New-York Yankees( hey they were the only one who could afford it)...MLB,is the only major sports who allows a team to buy any player that they want,at any cost ,because they dont have the gut,s to implant a salary cap...so thats why in my book ,MLB,as no credibility ...just open your eyes

Jayrey, you can't tell anything to Brian and Anticon, they are living in the past when nobody made money or spent money for anything, everything is the Yankees fault. I can also see they have no respect for thread titles. Though I won't praise or bash the Yanks here myself as I have been doing enough defending of them in another thread and they aren't even my team.

everything is the Yankees fault.

Oh no... it's not the Yankees fault. Steinbrenner's just trying to win, but Selig and whoever else has any power aren't doing anything to keep him from ruining the game.

Not your fault... not the Yankees fault.

If i were a player on another team, I'd jump ship and join the Yankees too!!!

They pay about twice as much as anyone else..

... but you refuse to see how that affects the whole game of major league baseball. It's ruined it for anyone who became a fan thinking every team had a chance to win. That's simply not true. It's a big lie and a farce.

not your fault. Not the yankees fault.

Just the way it is and real fans of the game want a better product.

I never said it was all Yankee's fault,i said that they were the one who contributed the most in the inequity that prevail's in MLB...I also didnt bash on the Yankee's,i basht on MLB,who is doing absolutly nothing to stop the non sense going on in their league's...You say that im living in the past, but you refuse to see the present by stating that everithing is fine and perfect in the MLB world, you refuse to see the negative effect that's going on ritgh now in MLB,because of the way the economie of the sport is set .
Like it or not,the fact is that MLB,is the less credible major circuit in all of sport's,and the Yankee's are only part of it .

^^^^^^^^ This coming from someone that tries to compare MLB to the almighty non-flawed NFL??? I never said MLB was perfect. And yes, you have blamed the Yankees for just about everything. I think you and Anticon are either buds on another site or the same person just spewing the same rhetoric. There is no sport or business that is perfect, but when a business is making as much money as MLB or the NFL there aren't likely going to be any changes no matter what a few malcontents think.

can we just talk about BASEBALL? maybe even, ummmm, the YANKEES baseball TEAM? i'm a RED SOX fan, but even i can show a little respect to someone that opens a string about their favorite team...even the YANKEES!
if you don't LIKE baseball as it is.....WATCH SOMETHING ELSE! no yankee fan, or even BASEBALL fan, wants to read your derogatory diatribes. you made your feelings known in your initial posts...now go play amongst yourselves.
sorry, jayrey, for hijacking your string here; but these two were getting really OLD!
oh yeah...one more thing, you two....have a nice day

baseball is only dull to someone that doesn't love the game. it's not dull to someone that can enjoy the SPORT, and it's intricasies; rather than only focusing on what's WRONG with the business end.
i have no problem with you voicing your concerns about it, but to redundantly beat your own 'opinion drum'....THAT'S boring!

having viewed A-rod's general performance since coming to the yanks....he is proving to be nothing but a bum player!!!............he can't hit in the clutch if his life depended on it!.....as far as Big-unit goes, he seems like he is sitting in same groove as he was last year....i doubt he'll be back next year if he keeps this up!
