FAQ - Limit of No More than 2 Posts in last 10 Sequential Posts
Posted: 7/7/2007 1:19:25 AM
Yes, it WOULD be a good idea, if the rule were actually applied consistently.
Check out the "Canada At War. With Who?" thread in the "Politics" section. Specifically, messages 92, 93, 94, 97,98,99,100,102.
Yeah. Great rule!!

How come other people on same forum can repeatedly post ?
I cant post but 2 Xs
I can post on other forum /Thread and am happy I can !
I wanted to start a fun Thread for everyone and leave the other Thread
for a while !
I dont think I have did any thing wrong . The people that can
chat /post on other thread repeatedly it is just as explicit as the
one created and can't post on !
its as if form of discrimination or negative judgement towards
me is "taking place !

Was there something wrong with the Thread ? or does POF think
I have gone too far "posted too much in last Thread to
be a part of the new Thread ? Because of my last Thread having 121 pages
I know it is Outrageous ,but it has been interesting . I would think POF
would be Proud that we like coming here so much !

Did you not bother to read the moderator's notice, on the 1st post of this thread?

Longer posts are un-affected by the 2 in 10 filter.
This filter is designed to reduce needless chat in the forums. Therefore it won't affect substantial posts, but it will effect short posts.

These are meant to be discussion forums, not chat-rooms, and posts like the 2 below, don't really contribute to a discussion
oh this is Just to Hilarious
I love it ! Tell me more !!

That is so funny " Thanks for sharing a wild & krazy moment in time

Well..I just tried to post to Bucs Girl to thank her for sharing her Long Dist relationship story in Dating Experiences and Long Distance, and it was my 3 post in the entire thread, and MORE than a paragraph, yet I am "not allowed" to post it. Have to wait for several more people to post....sheesh! Rather frustrating. (And cannot even email her to thank her.) ARRGH!

are you not able to email her?

The point of this filter was to limit forum chatting.
Posting just to thank another person for their post is an example of the type of chat which this filter was meant to prevent.

According to the forum posting guidelines:
Is your reply addressing the subject, and contributing to the discussion? or is it an exchange of off-topic comments between yourself and another poster.
Use POF E-mail for this.

Yet, if you go in this Thread, you will see the OP had as many as 7 to 8 posts in a row, many of them are 1 to 2 lines only. She did the same thing on page 3 and 4 and 5 over the weekend, just wonder why the program didn't catch it and allow this happen? Any explanation?

And nobody even care to report this nonsenses? (I mean OP's)

They really should make it so you don't type "all THIS" into the text button, and to hit the POST button, all of a sudden to realize you can't post it and get that message.

I think if you hit the "reply" button, is when you should see the message.

Why waste all your time typing, when they could have saved you time BEFORE you typed anything.

If all else fails.. read directions.
The issue here seems to be that people are questioning a policy that is clearly outlined in the Rules of Posting. Even after a moderator takes the time to post links which even more clearly explain the rules and filters...the question is repeated.. and repeated.
My question is ...Can these people not read or do they think for some peculiar reason that they are exempt from the policies.?????

Excessive posting in any thread or off topic chat is a violation. Padding content with random characters is also a violation.. so typing 150 x's, etc. ,to get to 200 characters isn't exactly beneficial.
If you see violations.. report them in the report forum abuse thread. Instead of b1tching about it in here, post it where it is supposed to be reported.JMO

Edit.... the edit option is also there, in part, to avoid excessive posts. You can add to any post for up to 15 minutes or make corrections or whatever.. no need to create a new post to say" opps.. I meant to say"...

I am having a lot of trouble posting in general. I am not breaking any of the rules in the FAQ which I have read, by the way, and I am not able to post more than once or twice a day, IN DIFFERENT THREADS. When I try to post, I am simply taken to the page of the thread I am replying to, without the post being created. No error message, no nothing.

Posting Problems: When I try to post ... without the post being created.

  • You were logged out of the Forums after 15 Minutes of Inactivity and need to Forum Login again.

  • If you have Trouble logging into the Forums, try changing your Password.

  • You may need to delete your Cookies & Temporary Internet Files. Then Forum Login again.

  • You have never completed the Second Part of the Registration Process.

  • You cannot make any New Threads or Forum Posts for the first 72 Hours of new Profile Creation, except in the Plentyoffish Site/Suggestions/Help Forum Category.

  • For new Members, your Profile has to have been in Existence for at least 72 Hours, and at least 8 - 10 Posts are required first before the (Edit Post) Function becomes available to you. As long as you are Forum Logged-in, you can "edit" your Post for up to 15 Minutes after you have posted your Forum Message.

  • Your Message Post has to contain at least 200 Characters in any Forum Category, a Minimum of 13 for the OP of any Local Party Forum, and 1 or more in the Plentyoffish Site/Suggestions/Help Forum Category. The 2 Posts in last 10 Posts Restriction is applicable only to Posts which contain less than 200 Characters.

  • The Userbase may have deleted the Thread, or a Moderator may have cleaned/deleted the Post, Page or Thread.

  • A Moderator may have temporarily locked a Thread while you tried to post.

  • A Posting Overlap with the same TimeStamp.

  • A Thread has become inaccessible by Reason of Non-ASCII Characters, Formatting or HTML Tag Errors, Quotation Marks or the @ Symbol entered into the Subject Line.

  • User Error. Instead of clicking to respond to a Post, you clicked on the Last 25 Active Threads or History Link to the far left of the Page. Or ... instead of clicking < Post > , you hit < Cancel > or clicked on some other Weblink.

  • Make sure you post in ASCII (Plain Text) Letter or Characters Format not exceeding more than 7,600.

  • Do not use the ---> @ Symbol, non-resolvable Character Encodings, Unicode, Chinese or anything else the System Filter does not recognize in your Forum Messages.

  • You have not only composed and copied the Body of your ASCII (Plain Text) Message from your Text Editor into your Forum Post, but also your Text Editor's unrecognized, non-standard Formatting, Document Markup Languages or Control Characters. Use another Editor or don't use/turn off its formatting Functions.

  • Do not enter HTML Links, Java Code, E-Mail Addresses or Telephone Numbers, or anything else that the Spam Filter may construe as a Telephone Number.

  • Do not use Banking Terms, such as "Account", "Bank", "Transfer", Profanities, the Names of Hosting Sites, Names of certain blocked Countries such as Nigeria, India, Russia, or anything else that could reasonably be expected to catch the Eye of the Site's Spam/Scam Filters.

  • You were assigned a Posting Limitation/Restriction or banned from posting on the Forums by a Forum Moderator for Forum Rule Infractions, Violation of the Posting Guidelines, and/or anything referred to in the Forum Rule Violations Report Thread.

  • Make sure your Browser's Internet Options & Preferences are correct, Securities set properly, Cookies not corrupt, no Firewall Blocks, etc.

  • You have made fundamental "Setting Changes" to your Operating System, Browser, Firewall, etc. in the Meantime, but have not re-booted your Computer and/or Forum Logged out since.

  • If you are routinely having Forum Posting Problems, don't use Internet Explorer or any Browser which rides the IE Engine, but a more secure and nearly Malware-Proof Browser such as Mozilla Firefox Browser with Instant Messenger.

  • User Error may have caused a Browser Spam/Ad/Image Blocker to block the Forums, or a Portion thereof, and may require disabling of 1 or more Themes or Add-Ons

  • Your Browser may have been Hijacked or has gone corrupt and may need to be re-installed.

  • Heavy Site Traffic resulting in Session Expirations, Login Issues being bounced between POF Servers, ISP Problems, even right down to Wireless or loose Cable Connections.

Are some people monitored more closely than others . . ??
I've often gotten the 'No more than 2 in the last 10' rule when I try to post more than my allotted ' 2 ' . .
But . . 'Some' people seem to be Immune . .
I just saw a thread in which the OP posted
    4 of the 1st _7_ . . and . .
    _7_ of the 1st 20 . .
    Including _3_ consecutively . . within 1:42 . .

    Are they just 'Lucky' . . ???

2 - in - 10 rule pertains to 2 posts in last 10 posts on the SAME thread. I hope that cleared it up for you.

    If " 2-in-10 " is a 'Rule' . . How can someone post _3_ times . .

1st of all, it's not a rule. It's a filter, designed to limit the number of short, chatty, non-contributive posts in a thread.

Secondly, posts over 200 characters long are unaffected by the filter. Since the filter's main purpose was to limit non-contributive posts.

    less than 2 minutes apart . . !!
I've been Blocked from making a 3rd post on the same subject . . On Topic . .
    3 D A Y S Apart . . !!
    ...OR . . do I need to make a Formal *Abuse * Report . . ??

I will once again, very carefully, try to explain to you:
longer posts, are unaffected by the filter.

If someone's posted several times, and you can't: it's likely due to the fact that their posts are long enough to be unaffected.

The number of minutes, or days, between your posts is irrelevant.

Did you even bother to read the very bold moderator's notice, in the 1st post of this thread?

    OR . . do I need to make a Formal *Abuse * Report . . ??
    Who's being abused?

How much Research could possibly exist to read 3 short Paragraphs?

Read the very first note in the very FIRST POST of this thread.

The filter is designed to stop "one liner"/filler/chat/nothing to add contributions.
