I have a simple formula for women. 5' tall is 100lbs + 5lbs for each additional inch.
So 5'2" should be around 110lbs. Most guys like short girls.
I'm 5'9 and according to you I should weigh 145 pounds. At 170 pounds I am thin. If I lost 25 more pounds I believe that I would be a skeleton.
I too, am 5'9". But I weigh neither 170 pounds, nor 145 pounds. Currently, my weight hovers between 128-130 pounds. I was between 140-145 for a long time, started losing weight this winter, and now seem to be holding steady. Some say I'm "skinny" (hate that word-has negative connotations, just like being called fat-at least for me it does), but I don't feel skinny (cringes).
At my very heaviest, I weighed 175 pounds. I felt horrible. I looked horrible. I will never, ever, allow myself to get to that size again. Not because of what anyone else thinks, but because of how *I* felt. I felt very unattractive, I was unhealthy and had very little energy, and I remember hiding in the house a lot, not wanting to be seen in public. This is how *I* felt, and only me.
Some girls look really great carrying a few extra pounds. I wasn't one of them. As for being short..I used to wish I was shorter. I have a friend, she's just this tiny little thing, and she's absolutely adorable. I feel so big and gangly and awkward around her..sigh.
I do appreciate my height more now. And most guys seem to like it as well..no complaints yet, anyway.

| Thin Overweight Average Posted: 7/28/2009 8:22:20 PM | Sorry to keep jumping in on this but the whole thing about "average" bugs me. I'm sure that when this site was being developed the word average was intended to represent someone who was height/weight proportionate. Not fat, not a gym rat. Unfortunately, average seems to be relative now. That blows. It borders on dishonest and is conniving at the very least. Average in my local Wal-Mart is probably 5'2 to 5'10 and 200 to 275 (conservatively) for women and I don't know what for men. By the way, most are wearing way to tight clothes that allow their belly to hang out or they're in their pajamas. Yuck. Is that the average we're using?? There should be height/weight drop down boxes, but they probably omitted that to save a lot of people embarrassment. To be clear now- if you have a medical condition, i'm very sorry for you but you are not the target of my angst. It's the lazy people that don't care about themselves that drive me nuts, then they lie and call themselves average.
Btw- Jack Black and Paul Blart can move for big guys. Women with curves are attractive, no doubt. Jon Stewart's screeching is going to drive me insane. Is he even funny anymore?

| Thin Overweight Average Posted: 7/28/2009 8:34:07 PM | I personally prefer a girl that is of average weight for her height... but I generally like a little meat on the bones
Just basically if the girl takes care of herself that's the most important since fitness is really important to me.

| Thin Overweight Average Posted: 7/28/2009 9:46:59 PM | | lol all guys like different body types...there all different just like all girls are different in what they like and what turns them on.. Some like the twig others like to grab on to the love handles etc.. Im a bigger girl and was always conscious about my weight, I had issues even getting naked in front of ex with a light on, but now, now im totally comfortable, my man loves grabbing these handles etc, and I feel good being with him and it feels so good being able to get naked and not think twice about omg suck it in.. or whatever.. Anyhow...there all different in what they like. | |

Some like the twig And what do you mean when you utilize this term that brings to mind a branch from a tree? It certainly sounds like it is an derogatory term. As opposed to a twig are what trunks?

| Thin Overweight Average Posted: 7/28/2009 9:53:54 PM | Just curious what description would the bodies of Marilyn Monroe, Raquel Welch, Sophia Loren be put under? Average? A few Extra pounds? Overweight?
Also, I'm surprised that the size of breasts doesn't seem to be taken into consideration: DD probably weigh 15lbs or so more than an A cup. And when you add muscle, then all that height /weight comparison is out the window. You can have a number of people with the same height and weight with completely different bodies.
I used to have a friend, who was skinny as a rail, 6'3" and 230lbs. Nobody would believe him.

I have dense bones, dense breast tissue (I'm a 34G), wide hips and lean muscle tone. I weigh close to the range described as average for my height, and I'm not over the 168lb limit to remain in "normal" range (I'm 5'10").

| Thin Overweight Average Posted: 7/28/2009 11:40:41 PM | | I'm 5'3" and 115 pounds. My fiance is 6' and 245 pounds. I'm into big guys | |

| Thin Overweight Average Posted: 8/14/2009 5:49:35 PM | | heterotic, that is one of the weirdest weight / height, body descriptions I have ever heard of! what is a 34G breast / cup size? I workout regularly and have women friends of all sizes & shapes. I read a lot of health & fitness magazines and subscribe to a lot of similar websites. your post is a first! | |

| Thin Overweight Average Posted: 8/14/2009 6:49:44 PM | So 5'2" should be around 110lbs. Most guys like short girls. Bosoxfaninwa: Really? Where are you getting this data from?
That most men like short girls? That's been the subject of a few threads on here. Personally, physical traits like that don't mean much to me. I've dated 5'9" and even 5'10" girls like yourself. It's just most guys need a small women to feel manly because they have no other substance to back it up.
From what I can tell of the posts in this thread, I would say my formula is pretty accurate. If you are a 5'9" woman and weigh 170lbs, you need to put yourself in the "few extra pounds" category.

| Thin Overweight Average Posted: 8/14/2009 9:17:28 PM |
168lb limit to remain in "normal" range (I'm 5'10"). Yes, that is a few extra pounds for this height. Bra sizes go DDD = F, G, H and up. I had a reduction when I was an H. I am a DD now. I weigh between 137 and 144 pretty consistently. It shows that my bmi is healthy, where it should be. You are an inch shorter, so I doubt your bmi shows you in the normal range. You don't look like a body builder and muscle weighs more than fat, so that couldn't account for it.
I believe that I heard, don't feel like looking it up, breast implants that are DD weigh about 7lbs. As they are separate from your body and artificial, it seems they would weigh more than natural breast tissue/fat.

| Thin Overweight Average Posted: 8/14/2009 9:58:57 PM | Ok first of all yes Marylin Manroe might have been a size 12 or whatever, but that was before vanity sizing sizing started. By today's standards, her size 12 would be more like a size 6. If you don't believe me look it up.
Second BMI charts are crap. I hate them. Anyone with extra muscle mass or disproportionate breast size will get an inaccurate reading. It can be a good generalized method to use, but it does not work for everyone. I used to be a nationally ranked gymnast and that chart said I was obese...I don't think so. And whoever came up with the 5 feet = 100 lbs, plus 5 lbs per inch is simply out of his mind. Just saying.
Third this thread is like 4 years old, but whatever I guess.
And lastly, most men prefer women with a little "extra" to them. Not all, but most. Some like more and some like less. Just like some women will always be a little thicker and some will always be a little to thin, and by no fault of their own. However, if you are unhappy with your weight don`t just decide it`s ok to be fat, do something about it. EVERYONE should get at least 15-30 minutes of exercise everyday. So take the damn stairs instead of the elevator every now and then.
Oh and by the way I`m not runway model skinny but I am not fat at all. However, my weight would surprise most people.
|
| Thin Overweight Average Posted: 8/15/2009 4:55:22 AM | I like women 5' 2" to 5' 6" and around you weight them look real not a runway model that doesnt eat. Working out is great and congrats ahead of time if you make it. If you want my opion Steph you are perfect just the way you are and i wouldnt change a thing. | |

| Thin Overweight Average Posted: 8/15/2009 8:27:18 AM | | Thin to athletic and a min. height of 5"-7",with 5"-10" being ideal,I know,sounds kind of picky,but it was asked,right? | |
|
| Thin Overweight Average Posted: 8/28/2009 1:16:37 PM | | A 5'5 woman should way 110 lbs for optimal health and looks. Add or remove 5 pounds for each inch more or less than 5'5. | |
|
| Thin Overweight Average Posted: 8/28/2009 1:42:13 PM | It's not about height at all for me, but weight is important. I actually like a shorter woman. When they are too tall they sometimes look awkward. It's also about body shape. If you have no butt or boobs then that is a problem unless you have a really tight all around body. And big boobs and a big butt are great unless you are 250 lbs, because then it means nothing.
Every woman knows what their "assets" are. Even if she only has one main thing, like pretty eyes...she knows it. That being said, the preponderance of women are just average and have few defining characteristcs.

| Thin Overweight Average Posted: 8/28/2009 2:10:07 PM | | So you're saying at 5' tall women should weigh 85 pounds? That's a bit sickly. By your rules... at 5'10 I should weigh 135 pounds. Which is actually what I weigh but for shorter women that rule makes no sense. | |
|
| Thin Overweight Average Posted: 8/28/2009 6:56:58 PM | What's with you guys in your preferences for shorter women? With a tall woman, it's easier to reach all the good bits . I tend to avoid women more than 50 pounds heavier in relation to me. While I don't see a problem with larger women, I have to respect the laws of physics here. Someone twice as massive is more likely to crush me than love me. | |
|
| Thin Overweight Average Posted: 8/28/2009 7:01:45 PM | | I see, so apply to shorter women and it's sick, apply to you and it's fine just because you happen to match that? Why is that people always think they represent the norm? eg. a woman is 5'3 145 lbs...."Oh I'm normal, I just hate those skinny ****es" Soooooooo typical and rather pathetic. We reap what we sow. | |

5'5" and 110lbs can be attractive, but I would call a woman with these dimensions "Thin", not average.

p.s. either you are not 5'10 or you do not weight 135. No way.
