| Our role models Posted: 3/15/2005 10:13:15 PM | We tend to take our cue from our celebrity role models... some recent noteables...
From: http://www.angelfire.com/stars4/lists/couples-age-differences.html and after reading the page of who's who... you soon come to the conclusion that large age differences are the norm...not the exception
Demi Moore 42 (and maybe 4 weeks pregnant) dating Ashotn Kutcher 27 Donald Trump 59 recently married to Melania Knauss 34 (they want a child) Michael Douglas . . . Catherine Zeta-Jones... 25yrs difference Rod Stewart.... Penny Lancaster (soon to be married?) 27yrs difference. And the winner is.... J. Howard Marshall II . . . Anna Nicole Smith 62 yrs difference
Then there is my own nephew... Gavin 22, married to a woman 42 who has a son from a previous marriage... yup you guessed It... he's 22years old.
So would I date a woman 20 or 25 years my junior? Yes I would.

| What Does Age Have To Do With It? Posted: 3/16/2005 1:43:31 PM | | I'm just now coming out of a 15 month relationship with a young woman who will turn 23 in June. She is a college student and I am a retired professor (no, she was not one of my students). She will be receiving her undergraduate degree in May and will be leaving for grad school at Michigan. The two of us agreed that it would be best to discontinue the relationship now rather than put off the inevitable. Our age difference was considerable but neither of us had any problems with the numbers or the physical aspects of the relationship. I am married and she is single....I am 61. Age is simply an experience rating. | |

| What Does Age Have To Do With It? Posted: 3/16/2005 3:24:36 PM | | I have a general rule of thumb. If her nipples can touch my sack without her bending over, shes too old LOL or too young. :) | |

| What Does Age Have To Do With It? Posted: 3/17/2005 7:10:07 PM | As some said before, age is just a number.
Binarically speaking, on here we are all 1's and 0's it's just too bad we have to go through so many zeros before finding the right "one".

I don't think age has anything to do with it BUT, that 'rule of thumb' of take half your age and add 7 would leave me dating guys younger than my firstborn - NOT gonna go there.
Now if all the cuties in their mid 40's would just hurry up and age, I'd be really happy!!

but when a guy has this attitude like; you would have understand if you were my age, or those were the days., its over.

| What Does Age Have To Do With It? Posted: 3/18/2005 3:17:31 AM | kikoro... you've given me something to thing about.
I am currently seeing a wonderful woman who is a bit younger than me and I will have to watch out and make sure I don't make any references to WWII or The Great Depression.
I agree with you that chronological pidgeon-holing would eliminate a LOT of really special people in the world with whom we may have SO much in common.
p.s. I'm old, but not entirely grown up!

it's always good to act from experience., just don't go blind on it :) I would'nt mind if someone mentioned the war or depression but its the way they say it., don't use them to make your point but look for a more universal truth in what to say.

| What Does Age Have To Do With It? Posted: 3/18/2005 3:54:12 AM | There are things in a relationship that are more important than the number of days that you’ve seen.
However, I would like to be with someone who wasn’t around during Pearl Harbor and doesn’t think JFK is a new type of fried chicken. The closer to the generation you’re part of, the more likely you’ll have things in common.
Having said that, because of my occupation in technology, I’m surrounded with a younger generation and I don’t think about things like my age group does. I think that gives me 15 years experience at being 40 years old. (Maybe someday I’ll get it right!!)

| How old is too old Posted: 3/18/2005 10:18:24 AM | I do think that in some cases age matters. I wrote this once already but must have hit the cancel button because I didn't see it post so if you see it twice..I appologize.
A young man of 18 expressed interest in me yesterday. I'm afraid that I did not handle it very well and was rude and said if I knew his Mom I would have her take away his computer...lol I have children older than this person and it would be like hitting on my daughters boyfriend, although I doubt whether she would go out with an 18 year old...lol
It is hard enough to find a well adjusted, emotionally secure man of my age to have a not so dysfunctional realationship with. Why on earth would I want to set my self up for the ridicule that a relationship of this sort would cause...lol..." Your son is so handsome, nice to see a mom an son out together"...Yeah right...I just can't wait...lol I think that a 36 year age difference screams ...poor taste. I can't fathom what this young man could possibly see in a woman of my age. I do think that there are still somethings that are inappropriate behavior and this is one of them
To you young man if you are reading this, I appologize for my rudeness. I reacted to you as I would have reacted to one of my own children coming home and telling me they were interested in someone my age....take those 36 years and apply them to someone over the age of 25 and it may seem to matter less...But this is one woman that really can not see the point.

Next time it happens you should feel flattered and not take it as insult. Kids his age have feelings you know

| How old is too old Posted: 3/18/2005 10:37:54 AM | | Well thanks Xchuck but it is hard to be flattered by something so ridiculous...Remember that teacher that got arested for messing with her student...heck the wasn't even a 36 year old age difference there...but they sure put her a** in the slammer...lol I truely don't see the difference | |
