Such as when he proformed a comedy routine consisting of nothing more then singing "99 Bottles Of Beer On The Wall". The only deviation he made from the songs correct lyrics came about three quarters of the way through when he said "I can't believe you people are still here!". | |

The beauty is there....why does there have to be a will attached to it....it is just there...maybe there was a creator and maybe there is no creator. Beauty is a subjective term that the individual takes in using his senses. A blind man will obviously not see the beauty and a deaf dumb, blind man will not sense it at all. It's all subjective - beauty, God , creator etc. NOT objective. | |

I believe that many Pastors want thinking people, and you are exaggerating the views of certain religious people to fit your gripe. There is a certain amount of control in religions that oversteps the powers of Governments. After you get rid of religions, are you going to rid us of Governments who want to control our actions as well? It seems the only power great enough to overthrow Government has been religion unless it was another Government. Ironic? Not really. It is the reason for religion to continue existance. If not to feed the moral strength of a Governent of the People, then to overthrow a Government that has abandoned its people. | |

Of course you need to find one that makes the best sense before you should even use one. However to ignore them all without any research - is definitely not the right way to go.
A religion is our identity – it is also our destiny. It can tell us who we are and where we are going.
An individual mind is an influenced mind. It usually dictates what we would like to do, not necessarily what we should do or what we are asked (by our creator) to do.
That is why – IMO not seeking religious guidance can give a person a flawed characteristic trait such as “arrogance”.
Some feel they can do without religion because most of them are full of confusions. Well, even though many answers could me within us BUT we won’t even know them if we don’t even know what questions we must ask! That is why researching is very important. Through research we can find both answers and more questions and then more answers.
By doing that - in the end – we will have a tool that not only works but makes perfect sense.
IMO Flatly dismissing all religion and throwing a punch line like “religion is a joke” – is indeed a joke!
Primary three religions are not a joke, some others just might be. | |

Posted: 5/4/2006 11:56:44 AM | Religion is the bridging of the unknown with a goodie bag of speculation. Religion is akin to a movie get-together. Everyone watches the movie and it abruptly stops. The last half hour of the movie is missing so the group gets together to surmise the ending. Every little bit is scrutinized but in the end, there is still half an hour of the movie missing.
Rather than admit and own up to there being no ending that we can be sure of, we each write our own ending up and try to convince everyone else that our version was the one that makes the most sense. | |

As far as trying to convince someone of a particular idea,I personally gave up on that idea years ago.After all,there are no medals or trophies to be won,no cash prizes to be gained.
I fear it's all just an ego boost for most people to think they are right and has nothing to do with helping someone,or too learn.
I believe that is the crux of religions real problem,more than religion itself. | |

Posted: 5/4/2006 3:05:11 PM | I don't follow the Bible, but even I know that the Bible does NOT say the earth is 6,000 years old. Some Christians do believe that though, and they base this on the geneologies from Adam on out, + 6 days for Creation of course ;-) .
Funny thing is, No where in the bible does it talk about the creation of the earth. The story starts with darkness and water and a void. They all existed before God got started created all the extra goodies. For those that are Christian and also followers of science, well they might need to do a little extra rationalizing to make up for the millions of years that we have evidence for. | |

First of all it would be more pleasant if you did not type in caps as that is almost the same as shouting. Secondly, you need to organize what you are saying because you contradict yourself in your post. Either the earth is 6000 years old or it is older. The dinosaurs cannot predate the history of the earth. We can safely assume that earth was made before the dinosaurs came into existance.
By the way "scientists" did not say the world was flat. It was superstitious man with limited knowledge who believed the earth was flat and that was an opinion held by most people living at the said time. It is unfair of you to peg "scientists" on this and absurd as well.
Lastly I am glad you can trace your linneage to people during the last couple hundred years. I think we could say in this case and in other that if evolution happened it goes back just a teensy weensy bit of more time than say two hundred years.
Religious people will argue even amongst themselves about the start of the world....you say tomayto, I say tomaato...you say meteor hits the earth...I say flood....You say revelations and final conflict between God and Satan and I say nuclear armageddon. I think we need to update Irving Berlin's song "Let's call the whole thing off". What a great title...how about we do that? | |

The quote was made by Saul, who changed his name to Paul, and is echoed by David in the Psalms if you would allow that the echo came before the actual statement within poetic license. In my view, the statement is a very powerful one, though it was misquoted, as it often is. "At the name of Jesus every knee should bow." It assumes that you know "The name," which is "The Word," and is the light of the epiphany. Unfortunately, it is often stated as a literal, and often those who have ears cannot hear. | |

Phillipians 2:10
10"that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,"
You are correct with the word being used here "should". However Romans 14:11 quotes directly from Isaiah 45
"By myself I have sworn,
my mouth has uttered in all integrity
a word that will not be revoked:
Before me every knee will bow;
by me every tongue will swear."
"should" is not used here but Paul put that in to replace "will". Maybe that accounts for some of the confusion.
Another mistake you made. Paul was writing later than David in Psalm and therefore Paul can echo David. He cannot be echoed by David if David was writing first.
