What is it with the Mormon thing

Well montana, they were both doing a lot of work for me, took me out for chinese, painting my house, playing guitar, and apparently they werent allowed to be around me by themselves as i was single and werent teaching me correctly! When they came to say goodbye they werent even allowed to step into my house, so i figure i had something to do with it. he was also doing a lot of skiving. (not knocking on doors)
What do you make of it?
Iv told him not to be so hard on himself.
Welder thanks for your reply, I suppose in all religions and all walks of life people judge to different extremes even non religeous people can be the most judgemental so maybe i have noticed The most judgemental mormons, and made rash judgements on the religion as a whole, rather than noticing the good too. Burn in hell is pretty extreme and i think thats the kind of thing that was said to him. its all very sad.

I have a friend that grew up in Utah and was the only gentile dude in the neighborhood. Having known several folks who escaped he explaned to me about stuff like, the "magic underwear", etc. Sorry, that's nuts. The women seem to be very subservient. I would be stoned and broiled.

Sienna...it is true that missionaries are not supposed to be in a residence with a woman alone. I beleive that they have changed it now where they are allowed if there is more than one woman present. Don't hold me to that though...I'll check with my dad the next time I talk to him. But I'm pretty sure they changed it.

Superb irony...

Let me help you out here Enigma. No one has to ESCAPE from Mormonism. Unless a person belongs to a family who is all or mostly members of any religion, the family is going to make it tough as they won't understand why that family member wants to quit going. But any single adult, they can quit anytime without notice. A bishop or home teacher might inquire if they see they haven't been attending but they won't twist their arm to come back. And if they do, the person can call the cops and make a complaint.

Next, their is no magic underware. None. The underware that is suppose to be worn by devoted LDS members that have went to the temple. The underware has small patches sewed on them. The underware is a constant reminder of their faith and moral commitments to God and Christ. For them the underware is like wearing the armour of God. It is a constant reminder of their faith, their commitments etc., to God anf Christ.
There are stories of how this underware has protected some from physical harm of those wearing it.
I'll share a story I know of first hand. Three LDS brothers up here climbed McKinley. One was active and worr the garment, the next brother was not active and didn't and the last brother didn't as he was 15. An avalanche took them off the mountain for a few to several thousand foot drop. (The following was told by the active member's wife). The autopsies of the youngest brother and the non-active brother showed multiple fractures/broken bones/internal injuries from the fall. Now understand all three were connected by a rope when they fell and landed very close to each other. The active brother showed not a single injury where his garment covered him. Where it didn't cover him there were injuries. He died from head trama. So who knows eh?
Point being, the underware is not "magical" but earned that title from stories as I have told you.
So the women seem to be subserviant? You have not been around a LDS woman. They are not any different from any other religious woman who is devoted first to herself and husband, then the family, then church. You should go to a LDS church and observe. Familys look look pretty well put together at their church but they are just like any other family with all the usual problems that life tosses at us. They are anything but subserviant.

Sienna, when you sign up for a mission, the elders that help you learn things at the MTC and the elders that watch over you when in the field, they usually get a quick assesment of who is into it and who is lacking. Going on a mission half heartedly won't usually make it. There are expectations and these expectations are made aware to you at the MTC long before you begin your actual mission. A single woman is suppose to be taught by two sister missionaries. Less problems that way. It does happen if sisters aren't avalible and usually there will be an elder to watch things to make it three. All the personal attention they were giving you, big no-no. Crap can happen in those situations. They are to do their best to not put themselves in those situations. They are humans like anyone else. Temptation is always knocking at their door. When they use to stop by to chat, I would tell them what was happening in the news. They were glad to hear things.
A mission is like basic training. There are things you can do and many things you cannot do if your going to be true to the goal and purpose at hand that you have commited yourself to.

Enigma...they are not 'magic'. The garments are however blessed. They are worn to remind them of the promises they have made in then Temple. Some also point out that they are worn to remind to be modest...since the underwear part are knee length people cannot be running around in coochie cutter shorts. Some call the garments their personal armor of God....
