arley8337, or anyone else suffering from them

Try this for migranes. I do not know if it will work, however i have tested this with 2 people and it has worked for them. Hardly 2 people is considerd a definete lol but its worth a try.

The premise behind it is this:

There are a line of nerves in the back of our neck just above that little bump you feel at the base of your neck. What alot of people tend to do is crush these nerves repeatedly and over a long period of time. This sends shockwaves of pain through peoples heads causing violent headaches. This scenario is normally caused in people in office environments whom do alot of sitting, computer work, or are on the computer alot at home. When we sit down and look up at the screen or someone else ,we are crushing these nerves in the back of our neck. Try and picture this... sit in a chair and clast your hands behind your neck just above that bump, then look up as you look at a computer screen, you'll notice your fingers are being crushed and its quite uncomfortable. This is what is happening to our nerves.

To fix this:

Sit straight up, and retract your head back (kind of like your trying to avoid someone right in front of you whom has bad breath) then keeping your neck in this position, look down at the floor stretching the back of your neck. Hold this position for about 30 seconds, and do it 3-4 times, and about 2-3 times a day. See if this helps.

After my last fight, i had the worst headache/migraine of my life for about 2 months. My doctors said there was no visible signs of concussion etc etc. Had all the tests, and then some, but i praying for death some days. They attributed them to muscle tension in my neck and base of the skull. They suck, in short..lol

Yes I have Migraines, I get one bad one right before my cycle, but at diffrent points in time they seem to act up moreso them other times. I have had every test there is to determine why I have them. I have been on Imitrex, giving myself shots, diffrent types of pain pills, one of the other works for a bit then I guess I build a immunity to them. I got to tell ya, I had a native american friend who told me to get Clematis herb and also burn sage and inhale the smoke of it and it would ease the migraines and you know what it did. I thought she was nuts. Just for the record im not talking about weed either...lol

I am bringing this one back up. I've hit day 8 or is it 9, with one and now it has travelled across to my left eye. I have never had one before on the left side, and it is freaking me out a bit. I usually have them on the right side, so this is odd for me. Any ideas or help?

hello misseyes

Try out what i mentioned in a few posts above about dealing with migranes and let me know how it goes for ya. Alot of violent headaches can be attributed to the nerves that line the base of the skull, and how they can be crushed or under alot of tension. It is quite common for people in office environments from how they are sitting.

If you've had a change in your migraines, you're supposed to see your doctor. Mine have changed before too. Typically have them on either one side or the other.....but have had one a couple of times where it's been on both sides of my head.....I'm tellin' ya it was absolutely brutal!!! Saw the doctor about it like I was supposed to......said it's not uncommon for them to change sometimes but they have to check things out.

Good luck! Hope you're feeling better soon.

My daughter's neurologist always said to drink a Coke and take one Aleve at the first sign of a migraine headache. The Coke is because caffeine causes the pain reliever to work faster.

I take Fioricet for migraine pain, and it contains caffeine, a sedative, and a pain reliever.

It's too bad that you are not getting effective migraine control. There are many medications that are helpful for the control of migraines. A lot of the heart/blood pressure medications are effective for migraine relief such as propanolol, attenolol, verapamil, etc. A lot of the SSRI such as Prozac are helpful; even the older tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptylin can help control migraines. A lot of anti-seizure medications are effective in controlling migraines such as Depakote or Topamax. These would be taken on a daily basis if you have severe migraines.

There are so many medications that can help that you should see a good neurologist who is willing to try many different medications until you come up with a combination that works.

I know what you mean about having the weather bringing on migraines. I take Topamax daily for migraines, and it has made a huge difference in the number and severity of my migraines. October is traditionally my worst month because New Mexico gets a lot of hurricane remnants coming up from either the Gulf of Mexico or the Baja of California. The low pressure put me in bed literally for days on end. Last years when I was on Topamax, I felt so much better. I can't take Imitrex because I have a left bundle branch block in my heart.

Recent studies indicate that for some migraines are a result of lack of sleep.

Thanks for all the help. I can usually figure them out but this one is just kicking my tushie in a big way. It will slowly disappear to being almost gone then comes back with a vengence. I will try some of the suggestions and see. I'm getting a little desperate and I'm sure my neurologist is going to be thrilled to see me again

My mum and some of my colleagues have found that acupuncture has really made a difference. If you've had migraines for a long time they won't get cured overnight, so don't expect a miracle, and only see a registered acupuncturist, preferably one someone can recommend to you (there are a lot of charlatans out there)... Might be worth a try. I'm thinking I may try it myself...

For slight temporary relief, dab a little peppermint oil on your temples/forehead. It really chills and helps numb the pain (be really careful not to get it near/in your eyes). If warmth helps more than try Tiger Balm.

Migraines are awful, you've got my sympathy. I hope you feel better.

I suffered from severe migraines, but I found a remedy for them. Its called Rosemary aromas Espana- Essential Oils. It cost about 25.00 pls 5.00 shipping but the oil last a total of 2 years. You shake the jar and open it up in the room where you are and it covers a total space of 400 sq feet. It was purchased for me while I was in St.Catherines. Now I never seem to get them anymore....I stopped taking my medication for them and use the oils now....at first I didn't have faith in it, until someone convinced me to try it out...I am glad I did! Email me and I will forward you the company and phone number if your interested....you won't be dissappointed. I promise

I get severe migraines, to the point where I have been in the hospital with them...probably because I would have taken a shotgun to stop the pain! I have had MRI's, spinal taps, cat scans......and each time nothing signifigant shows. They have gotten so bad that I could take 4 percocets and still no relief........I like the winter because I dont get them as often. Summertime is the worst time of the year for me. My CFO monitors my headaches because if I have one 99 % her son has one too. Its weird.....
People can often tell that I am getting one before I know....apparently my eyes change colour....oh and I often smell things...like formehldahyde or roses..(no burnt toast....lol )...i have tried the preventative medicine, but it doesnt help.......maybe i should try moving to the north pole........

My ex used to get migraines (maybe still does) where she would just lay in bed and cry. That feeling of being useless and not being able to help someone you care about is the worst! I feel for you guys.

Reporting back on the rosemary oil...
Sadly it hasn't helped at all :( But it is a good "wake-up and focus" smell.
The last 10 days have been bad and I think my head might soon fall off.
Pressing at the base of the skull relieves tension for sure but doesn't begin to touch an established migraine.
Mine are pretty much all caused by stress/anxiety.
One doctor said I'd only stop getting them if I changed my personality.
But I find I'm rather attached to my personality...
So I figure I'm stuck with the migraines.
I can cope with that... but I'll keep looking for stuff that may help.
I may give the acupuncture a go at some point....

sorry rune the rosemary oil didn't help
You have to shake the jar and then open it and keep it in the room with you...for the first 30 days you have to keep the jar open beside you shaking it periodictly....you breathe it in four times whenever you feel like it....I have found great relief from it....and no longer have to take my tylenol 3's with codeine.....where did you buy your product??? I bought another gel product for my ex for his allergies but it didn't work for him.....so it might not work on everyone...but it certainly has for myself......

yes, I have always been plagued with them, have done all kinds ofs of test, effects of caffeine was thought at one time, that was eliminated, stress was thought to be a factor, blood pressure was ruled out, PMS was ruled out, though I still get one nasty one right before my cycle. I remember my mother suffered from them so bad she would wrap her head in a ace bandace and lay in the dark. 2 things help mine, a dark room, with a one small tea candle, sitting a distance back, gaze into the flame, basically meditation with soft, low meditation music, its very surpriseing how well this works, I find certain music works better then others too, if you want some of the music I have email me and I will be glad to share them with you, also sage, wild sage, wrap it in a bundle, let it dry, the lite it and let it burn some, inhale the sage in through the nose and breath out the mouth, do this a couple times, lay down, be still and try to relax. A native american friend turned me on to this one day when I was at her house and a migraine hit me, she did this and I was amazed, total believer, but I do find at times it don't work, not totally anyways, now when they get really really bad I give myself shots, imitrex I only do that as a last resort cause the side effects of the shots are horrible to me, for about 30 minutes I am soooooooo sick, naused, heart races, sweating, light headed, weak...so I hate it, but after that passes the migrain is gone.

I haven't but I am getting close to that. I had my doctor's appointment yesterday, after checking the dates from my migraines back in June. It is going on 9 weeks now. I had made a post earlier about it being 8 days and that was back in July. I had one for a month before that too.

My doctor just sent me a list of foods I have to cut out now, as well as the type of migraine I suffer from. Wouldn't it be just my luck to have the one in the 0.3% of the population who suffers from more than one type. I'm gonna get miffed.

Not sure if someone's said this already but try making a log of what you ate for the 48 hours leading up to the migraine, weather conditions i.e barometic pressure, whether or not you were exposed to bright lights, food deprivation etc...and then try to find the coming 'thread' (threw a little pun in there)...

and good old exercise and nutrition is always good too....

I don't get them very often, but i know they're no fun...

oh and this might be stupid but I use to have a Grade 6 teacher who use to tell a kid in the class who had a headache to 'will it away'...not sure if this works for some people but you can try...mind over matter...

I have sufferred from severe headaches my entire life and did not know i was getting migraine headaches until a few years ago. I used to take all kinds of over the counter meds in high volumes to try and get rid of them. I would get these headaches that sometimes would last 2-3 days a few times per month. Honestly i thought all headaches were like what i was getting. Well, i finally brought it up to my doctor and he prescribed me a pill called Amerge, very expensive though but i tried it and not only did it take away my migraines it also cut back on the occurrences of them. Now i get them maybe once a month and just take one Amerge and usually only suffer a couple of hours with it. When i do get a migraine what i have noticed most is its usually around the time of a major shift in the weather.

i`ve had them since i was a kid.. sometimes they get worse if my intake of sugar/salt is 2 much or when 'aunt flo' comes 4 her visit.. at those times.. i just wanna 'turn the world off'.. i also read a # of yrs ago in some book that if u take real ginger.. it`ll help ur migraine go away.. i tried it & yes it had worked.. also if u apply pressure 2 the vessel.. it`ll also stop the restriction of blood flowing 2 that area (which is what u want 2 do).. i`ve also done this 2.. but this only lasts 4 a few mins.. then its back 2 suffering.. unless u pop an advil or what have u.. my mom & my bros suffer from them as well.. but not my older sister.. gff..

OK well started with a migraine monday night that woke me up.........popped some motrin hoping it would just disappear...........no such luck....i went to work trying to will it away, but again to no avail........i ended up in my doctors office begging for relief.......she gave me the usual preventive meds (which do not work for me) for the next migraine but told me i needed something to stop the pain.....asked me what my choice for pain is.. Having taken 3 percs with little relief, I told her I dont care as long as it stops the pain. She handed me this package of a new drug and said here, try this.....dont take them until you drive home......its called tramacet.........i again was somewhat skeptical it would relieve my pain. I took them, fell asleep( a feat in itself as i usually dont fall asleep)....got up and took more at bedtime because the headache was still there.........well yesterday when i woke, pain still there, i took two more.........well holy hell........i guess because i was in deep sleep with the other two doses i didnt notice.....but this drug was "numbing".....i could feel the pressure of the headache but my whole body felt numb.....it was hard to move....could barely stand.....i talked to my friend who is a pharmacist and she said yeah its going to be hard to move, its a drug that numbs your central nervous system...........needless to say, if you have a severe migraine, this may be the option.........however, word of warning.....today, i feel like a mack truck or two has hit me......i am exhausted, weak and just generally down.........but no migraine.......lesser of two evils.......
