19-29 I was a brat in California. The one the family groaned about when my name was mentioned. I was also Berkeley's youngest licensed cab driver at 21. Started college (again)
29-39 I tried being an ex-brat but married a bigger brat than me. Finished college (B.A. in English). Started a career in computers by working as a data-entry clerk. Learned that I couldn't win being a bigger brat than her.
29-present Two brats competing to be a bigger brat and I lost. Computer career goes bust with the dotcom boom/bomb. Family decides they were right--I am a bum. Got religion (again). Started rebuilding a life.
I am a pain in the ass, a loudmouth, sarcastic & sometimes just mean. I am also getting too old for all this drama. So I am learning that it is ok to be happy. The job I have doesn't pay squat but it has other rewards. And I have the support I'll need to get back on my feet and be in a position to afford providing for another family while taking care of my responsibilities to the first family. I've gone from being that noisy little toy poodle that won't pee on the paper to being a big old golden retriever that thinks heaven is a spot of sun on the grass under the big live oak tree. By the social standards of my peers I should be depressed about my life. I am not, though. Things are good, about where they should be and are only going to get better. | |

Posted: 7/7/2006 5:17:45 AM | I've been posting on the Over 45 forum for a few months and just this a.m. found the VA Forum. I should say "DOH!".
Widowed, HS teacher (Frau) and coach (10s), living in western VA, wondering where my single age-mates are. Surrounded by the National Forests, I hike several times a week, ride my motorcycle, walk, garden-- entertaining myself. Living in a rural area makes meeting single friends challenging. Being friends with married folk simply isn't the same as having single friends. Also important is "Must Love DOGS". 
I have a photo in my profile. I have yet to discover how to get a photo to appear on my posts.

I am 53, newly separated, filing divorce in Nov. was married 22 years, but ex fell out of love. I am over ex and it's time to move on and start a new life.
I am on pleny of fish to meet a nice companion and friend to tour the sites in Va. to be friends and companions and enjoy one another's company without the pressure of romance.Just take it slow and let things develop. If things don't, I have a made a new friend.
I place God first in my life, children next, family and friends next and me last. I love life, laughing, giggling and enjoy nature and everyday I wake up and appreciate another day of life. Linda | |
