Nothing is wrong with preferences. I don't remember anyone saying fat should be accepted as ok. I thought the general thread was to not be mean if you don't like it don't date it. I don't walk around bad mouthing small equipment just prefer not to date it. There is a difference and everyone is allowed their preferences.

"Unless a man accepts who he really is, he can not grow or develop his potentialities"

If you have surrounded your self with people you do not like, perhaps it's because you do not like yourself. A man, a self-actualized, REAL Man would never go where you admittedly are.

(Gotta tell them everything)

Just an old Jar-head,

I know this is alittle off topic...but

Why does everyone seem to assume that some men are not attracted to fat women. Yes you have to be attracted to see if you want to spend time with them. Simple fact. Not all are attracted to the same thing as the intelligent gal pointed out earlier.

Amazing how mean people are to others that don't meet their beauty standards.

To be frank, some of the most beautiful women I've ever met probably didn't meet this guy's standards on looks or weight but inside, they were more beautiful than you could imagine. On contrare, some of the most ugliest people I've met may have been good-looking on the outside but we're empty and cold inside.

It's a shame people like him are so shallow because he's missing out on an opportunity in meeting a women who might be a bit overweight but make up for it in being intelligent, witty, creative, with a sense of humor and heart of gold that can't be beat!

BTW -No I'm not overweight. I just don't judge people on their looks because I'd miss out on meeting some great individuals.

I am SO glad I am not the only one who doesn't judge a person by their weight!

This has been a really good thread even though it started off kinda lame...I think a lot of us have been able to speak our minds on this one and it has brought some perspective to everything....

I wish you all the best....

I'm overweight and IN Houston...far from gross OR bitter. I'm wondering where all the TALL, good-looking men are...they certainly didn't start this thread....*wink* I, for one, don't have ANY problems attracting men that some might consider to be "out of my league," although I don't really consider anyone as such. I am perfectly comfortable in my own skin. People who usually criticize others for what they think that they "lack" are generally those that have self-esteem issues themselves. And that being said, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

Oh, don't EVEN get me started on TALL!...LOL...I am 5'8...some women consider me short...I feel that I am perfectly capable of hanging with a woman no matter how tall she is...LOL...my Sweetie is 5'9 and she has no complaints at all...lol

LovesYoungerMen shows that men are more open minded to overweight women than women are to shorter men. Hmmm. Apparently sensitively and open-mindedness is a one way street to some women. You should accept me because I'm overweight but I shouldn't be forced to accept you because you're not tall.

It makes me wonder if men are more sensitive than women are. Interesting.

Duganman: I am guessing here, but I think the reason that Lovesyoungermen wrote that was simply for a little dig at the OP (who deserves it). I (assuming, yes) think that she probably wasn't trying to say that short men aren't worth getting to know.

I wish the OP would chime in here (obviously not man enough). It would be good for a laugh.

Another sad fact is that the OP is at an adult age. Basing so much on looks usually fades the more mature you get. I won't play iinocent. I do have a preference for average to slender women. The key word is PREFERENCE. We all have a vision of what is attractive to us. There are times when circumstance and/or people outweigh (figuratively) their looks. I can have preferences all day but the one time I was married was to a large woman. In the end it's a woman's personality, actions, chemistry, etc that wins out over my preference.
I know I have been on the recieving end of preferences. Some won't date me due to my long hair, the cowboy hat, 'cause I smoke, etc. We all have some level of preference, but, that isn't to say we all abide by them like law.

Thanks edldubu for clearing that up. I did misread what she was writing so my apologies to Lovesyoungermen. We're on in agreement the post was both mean, rude, and boorish.

I will say I too was amazed to see this guy stands only 5'5" yet feels he's so perfect to post such a rude subject.

Duganman....I didn't mean to offend anyone who is "vertically challenged." None of us are "perfect," and we do have our "preferences." Mine just happens to be for taller men...oh, and YOUNGER ones...LOL However ,that's not a "given." I don't find shorter men gross/disgusting, bitter, or anything of the sort such as the OP has suggested "overweight" women are. I would be making a generalization to say such. There are some very attractive, happy, and well-adjusted people of all shapes and sizes in this world and the opposite is true as well! That's one of the things that makes life interesting!

Edldubu...thanks for understanding my post in the first place!

Fat, sassy and happy!

LovesYoungerMen: Most, if not all women prefer a tall man so that's a preference shared with practically all women. I do agree it works in reverse though. Most, if not all men prefer a young slim petite woman with shapely curves and big breast. Hard to call either version a preference since it's shared by the majority of both sexes.

Well, since the OP is not brave enough to come back and I think MOST people who've contributed to the thread are not on his side, let's all join hands and sing "Kumbaya"!!!

PS: Duganman, personally, I don't mind if a guy is a bit on the shorter side, men are sexy, so who wants to pass up the chance at a great guy? I know, there are a LOT of women who would, but that means more for the rest of us!

PSS: Artistic Cowboy: Thank you for giving your opinion without being insulting. I always have said that there isn't anything bad about a man preferring slimmer women and not being attracted to larger women, but so many are so rude about getting their point across and they get mean about it. You seem like a gentleman. (Yes, I know, there ARE women who think men who don't like fat chicks should be shot, but I'm not one of them).

The media has brainwashed men into thinking that if you are not a size 2, you are a fat slob and unworthy of anyone's attention, and you know what? Men bought it!!! Just shows you how stupid and shallow men are. BTW, I'm a size 8/10 and 140 lbs and I'm considered fat in this society. What is this world coming to? So sad.

Sorry, Tart, I'm sure the men love being called stupid and shallow...

Since when is it only men who bought what the media is selling? Do you believe that it's mainly men who are the ones buying fashion/diet/gossip/fitness magazines? This is where women get a lot of their views on their body image and self-esteem.

I don't blame men for our body issues, your post does.

Sure, men can be guilty of imposing too much importance on just the physical, but that's certainly not all men, and I think we women are much harder on ourselves and each other than any man could EVER be.

It seems that you blame men for you being considered "overweight" at 140 (and yes, that's ridiculous, but not the fault of men), blame all people who buy into the media's hype.
