| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 7/13/2008 6:37:39 PM | I have travelled to many countries in Europe and have found that the problems people encounter aren't because of the country, it is because most Americans who travel abroad are ordinary, loud, obnoxious, and crude, in addition, they have no manners, show no respect and are an embarrassment to my country (U.S.). It baffles me why some of these people choose to travel anywhere because their behavior is deplorable and disgraceful. I'm sure others here will adhere to that fact. | |

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 7/14/2008 4:04:59 AM | Of all the places I've been to in the Caribbean, I must say Roatan Bay Islands has been the worst. And, the second worst was Cayo Guillermo, Cuba. I say this basically because they have no controls in place for sand fleas and wild dogs roaming the beach. I came home from both places with many sand-flea and dog-flea bites. The best place I've been to is St. Lucia, especially the Marigot Bay area and the Pitons. Of course, a thumbs up for Mexico, as well. You just have to be careful to have 4+ star accommodation when you travel to this destination. | |

Posted: 7/18/2008 6:30:55 PM | You know, despite the fact that I haven't travelled much in my life at all (apart from immigrating to the present country), I have to say, all those people who complain about the weather, temperature, traffic etc, you should've done some research BEFORE you left. I would if I were to plan a trip overseas. It would make sense to find out what months are the best to go if say, you want to relax under the sun at a beach. You shouldn't complain if you had your head in the clouds expecting some sort of paradise. People who also complain about rude people they encounter might want to question whether they themselves were acting rude and obnoxious. Also, I plan to travel to the UK myself in a few years' time, but I certainly don't have unrealistic expectations because I do my research. And yes, I agree Taipei is a city of two sides- both riches and poverty. Not only that but its extremely crowded and flat rates are really high due to high population. You'd have to be at least a company/business owner to be able to afford living there properly.

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 8/19/2008 6:04:56 PM | Tainan, Taiwan!! People were rude, the whole town was nasty, and seemed everywhere we went....someone would try to pick our pocket!! The beaches were not that great either...filled with trash! Most definately the worst place I've ever been! | |

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 8/27/2008 5:53:09 AM | Cairo. The Pyramids are disapointing because its just as if they have been placed within a rubbish dump. Plastic bottles, tin cans, imaciated animals, pollution and filth everywhere. Rubbish not dropped by tourists I might add, but from their own school parties etc. This is a World Heritage site and its about time someone told the Egyptians to clean up their act. You are also pestered to death with people trying to sell you things. | |

Geeze us! All those freaking dogs in Paris and not one owner ever carried a pooper scooper
Guess they clashed w/ Chanel and Dior

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 10/6/2008 1:27:35 PM | | I've read all 10 pages of this thread and agree with most of the posts where I have been, and believe the posts about the places I have not been. My dream is to see Portugal and I didn't read anything bad about it. I do love the English and French countryside....never had a disappointing vacation there. I lived in London, England, and although not perfect, I always felt at home there. | |

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 10/7/2008 8:55:20 PM | I've travelled all throughout Canada, much of the US, northern England, France, and Argentina.
The American Carolina states really affected me. It was the racism that got to me. I remember going to one town, where the entire population was black. Go to the next, and it was all white. The people all around were friendly, but that division was really... a shock.
The worst place I'd have to say though are the poorer parts of Buenos Aires. Very scary at night. Being white, you stand up like a sore thumb.

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 10/7/2008 9:13:01 PM | San Fransisco: Dirty, frayed, lots of homeless in the midst of wealth, although it probably looked great 70 years ago. Best: the Marquesas, Darwin, off islands near the Bahamas. Loved the countryside of Tuscany, but the natives are not polite. | |

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 10/7/2008 9:42:22 PM | Like others...I am stunned at some of the responses. Mexico is dirty ( especially Tijuana ), Cuba and Jamaica are too poor and people beg from you, Alaska is all muskeg and mosquitoes, the Southern states are full of racists, India is poor, overcrowded and polluted, white people stick out in the middle east, Russia is too cold in the winter, etc, etc. ( best one yet....Vegas is HOT in the summer !!. hahahaha ) Good lord people...seriously????? Did none of you actually research these destinations before you went?? I've never been to half the places people are b1tching about and could have told you all of that !
Yes folks, Mexico is dirty and the people are poor..and uneducated, because, well, they're poor. But, they're also some of the friendliest people out there with a history and culture that Americans can only dream about. Alaska has a lot of swamp land and muskeg ( and mosquitoes and horseflies )...basic high school geography there folks...but also has some of the most awe inspiring natural beauty anywhere on earth, and wildlife and diversity ot match. Jamaica..indeed, dirt poor and indeed people beg on the streets...but what a beautiful, friendly people they are. I guess you get out of travel what you put into it....and who the he11 travels anywhere without completely researching the areas they plan on touring???

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 10/12/2008 9:12:16 AM | I'm with janalta
I'm always amazed at people who visit another country and ... expect it to be like THEIR home! If you are going somewhere for pleasure then do the research or just "think" about it. If I lived in Tuscany and had rich foreign people buying up villas so I could never afford one ... I'd be miffed. If I lived anywhere and was constantly tripping over tourists, making my life even harder, I'd be annoyed. If you realize this and are properly respectful of a places customs and traditions, I've found people to be the same everywhere. Genuinely nice ... as we are all looking for the same things. Love, happiness and family. I do know a bit of what I speak. I live at the start of the "Alaska Highway". In summer I try my best to stay OFF the highway for business, as tourists tend to drive slower than posted speed limits and clump together making passing a chore. A thought to you people. You won't get lost .... really! You don't need to stay in smelling distance of your fellow Rv'er. Leave a 1/4 to 1/2 mile between you. Some people have a living to make. My rant. Oh yeah, the dog crap in France IS nasty!
