lol, mraries. aussies dont really like yanks. makes us wonder, with a yokel like bush, how they became a superpower.
back in 1979 in sydney, i befriended a great calgarian in a boarding house as everyone thought he was a yank and we had a great time shooting pool, snooker and smoking pot. we attended the end of the decade concert on the steps of the sydney opera house and i promised him that i would get over there one day. well, better late than never and that day is about to come later in the new year. apparently he lives in okotoks now and is in for a hell of a shock when i front up and say, gidday mate, long see, no timeto all canucks, wear your maple leaves with pride and enjoy some great aussie hospitality whilst you are here. you are always welcome

abu simbal airport, egypt.
they kept changing the departure gates on us and it was full of arrogant, pushy frogpricks.
most boring place was omarama, south island, new zealand. 1 pub and a shop. beautiful scenery though. enough to drive you to

2 places actually South Pudong China and Acura Kenya Africa because how they over charge foreigners. but the women made up for it. No bad attitudes in the women. Food and drinks COST nothing compare to North America . But as they say nothing venture nothing gain. Nothing like seeing other countries. My favorite place on earth is Moscow.

The worst place that I have been so far, is Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.. It was too big of a city, and bilingual, it is hard to understand the french language.. I like the stores, and some venues, but the city was too big, and I felt lost there...

Next time I hope to travel to somewhere more comfortable and inviting.. Not sure where to go to though to feel that way..

I went to Paris, France this past april, right before tour season . . . The subway/trains is chaotic, confusing, and crowded, as well as filthy with dirt and stink. Wait, pretty much everywhere in France is crowded and this isn't even tour season yet.I've also heard they often have strikes for their public transmit. Avoid the subway at traffic times, or you'll be in a can full of sardines.

As much as I hate the idea of standing up for the French . . . Paris is not a theme park , it is a city of some 10 million people , so yes , it is going to be a bit crowded in places. Even out of tour season. And anyone who choses to use ANY city's subway during rush hour ( I'm guessing that's what you meant by 'traffic times' ) deserves everything they get.

I've also heard they often have strikes for their public transmit

To damn a place based on hearsay is downright bizarre.

I don't care for Atlanta. It's overhyped and overcongested with traffic.

Mexico City. Unable to breath and lots of crooked cops demanding bribes at gun point..Although I hear the air quality has improved.

Hurghada, Egypt -- a total lack of anything aside from the Red Sea. If you want all of the comforts of home including the ability to eat from numerous amounts of western fast food chain and hanging out in nightclubs that play gawd-awful disco music, just go to Hurghada.

It is surprising that some people describe how poor or dirty or polluted a place is as if it was unexpected. You would think people'd know what to expect at least to some degree. I've reading through much of this thread and am familiar with quite a few places mentioned. One person said you get out of travel what you put into it, and I agree with that. I can't think of the 'worst' place I've ever been: I guess there isn't one. Nothing memorable sticks out in my mind. Yes, India is dirty and polluted and there is much horrible poverty. But that is not all it is, and what it is like, though at first having quite an impact on my senses, was not completely surprising. That goes for China, and a lot of other places. I can imagine though going to a place not for pleasure, but for business, and finding it to be unpleasant, and you didn't want to be there in the first place.

Oh, yes! Ismene1! You nailed it!

I was reading your post and remembering that while my trip to Fort Huachucha was filled with heat, dust, scorpions, and a long list of miserable hours, I also had the incredible experience of walking in the desert at 2:00 AM and seeing the moon shining brightly over the desert floor! The temperature was mild, the scenery incredible, and the memory was unforgettable!

Every destination has an up side! The important thing is to make up our minds to treasure the moment we currently find ourselves in!

Toronto Ontario is horriable, dirty streets, lousy transportation, high crime, not to mention the street beggars. Stay well north of the city, don't go farther south than HWY 9 or you'll get shot, ice also falls from the CN tower killing a few every year and the city covers it up.

The ignorance in this post is comedy gold.

I live outside Toronto and work right beside the CN Tower. While it is true that the city has been on the downward spiral in recent years (thanks to an idiot mayor who hasn't the first clue how to run a city), I have never been afraid of being shot or heard of anyone getting killed by falling ice. I will admit you did nail both the dirty streets and "homeless" epidemic perfectly tho.

The worst place I have ever been was some ghetto neighbourhood in Chicago's south side at about 11:30 at night (yep... we made a very wrong turn and got lost). I am not sure exactly where this was, but the neighbourhood looked like a bomb hit it and I was seriously worried I was going to get shot. When you see burned-out buildings with blue tarp blowing in the windows and candles flickering inside because people are still living in them, you know it is time to get the hell out of there!

Actually the best parts of France are anything but crowded . yeah the french strike but thats the french for you . As for the Paris metro its no worse than London`s tube. Now that IS a place to be avoided . Dirty , derelict , crime ridden , crazy , expensive and full of londoners

Barcelona. It's hot, it smells, I never came across anyplace that had a concept of a fan. The people are rude, the language is close enough to Spanish but just different enough to aggravate you. Plus they have some of the highest theft rates ever.
