| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 12/17/2007 10:51:48 PM | | Hands down, Bermuda. Far too many people hell bent on impressing someone else, rather than looking to have fun. they cause everything to be overpriced, so they appear to be wealthy. | |

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 12/18/2007 4:28:11 AM | | Nebraska, South Dakota and West Virginia. Some of the armpits of the USA. And I've been to several countries and lived in countries in the third world. The filthiest toilet I ever saw was in the USA as well. And believe me, I have seen some disgusting toilets in Asia and Africa. | |

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 12/19/2007 2:57:53 PM | The worst place I've been recently was Miami. I just remember getting lost in the city at night and having to stay the night at a hotel. There was a prostitution ring being run out of the hotel. The noises coming out of some of the adjacent rooms were rather, interesting.
Although I haven't really been everywhere in Miami so my opinion is subjective and based on a short experience. I'd definately go again if I was with somebody who knew the city better.

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 12/25/2007 4:04:51 PM | Trinidad. The poverty and hopelessness so rife, people have been known to mutilate themselves, i.e., self administered amputations, to be more sympathetic beggars to the tourists. And Dixie, when you say it's NYC and NJ because of the tolls, perhaps it's because the locals here are trying to minimize the number of southern ladies, obviously without a dental plan, who pose on POF in front of their Ford pick-ups. Just a thought. | |

| Los Angeles Posted: 12/27/2007 2:30:44 PM | To pdxairport.....
Los Angeles Too big, crowded and expensive.
New question to everyone: What is the nicest place you have been?
The worst and best place can be one and the same.......it all depends on your attitude and the company you keep.
I have been in some of the dirtiest, poorest countries in the world and some of the nicest places in the world.......if you do not want to be there, you will not have a good time. If you are with someone that isn't fun or isn't enjoying themselves, you will not have a good time and vice versa. I have read what people have said about India, the Middle East, the Caribbean, Mexico, etc. I loved each and every country I have visited in these areas. Poverty is in our own back yard. I live in upstate NY and there are people that beg for money here. You don't need to leave the country, or even most cities to see poverty. But, you can help your local charities try to fix the problem.
I travel for the exposure to new cultures, different ways of life, meeting new people, trying new cuisines, art, history and scenery. I try to take in all aspects of where I am going so I can try to best understand their way of life. I feel I have a better grasp and less hardship for a different way of life than mine that way. Too each their own.

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 1/21/2008 3:33:31 PM | | Torrevieja in Spain. Seems to be the place where Brits on a tight budget choose to move to. It's cheap for good reason. | |

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 1/21/2008 4:35:03 PM | Meh....
NEVER go to Vladivostok, Russia in the winter time.
Never have I seen such a dirty, depressing, tourist unfriendly city with such miserable people.
China would be a close second!

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 1/28/2008 6:32:27 AM | | Worst place? St.Petersburg, Fl. Old men exposing their butt cracks don't interest me. That is my memory of St.Petersburg - not a good one. | |

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 1/30/2008 7:26:08 AM | I have been to Las Vegas a couple of times. For me it was one of the best and the worst places I have ever been to.
The first time was great. It was in the spring and everything was open. So much to see and do. Lots of fun.
The second time was the worst. It was summer and incredible hot. There was construction everywhere. It was horrible.

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 2/1/2008 7:41:46 AM | | Geez - I thought Heathrow Airport was the best people watching place in the world - I could have spent days there! Great shopping too! Hated Athens, greece and only reason you fly there is to change airport and fly out to the islands! | |

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 2/1/2008 6:45:30 PM | | I spent six days in the interior of Haiti. This is absolutely the most poorest county this side of the hemisphere. Very dangerous for any foreigners. Most Americans visting Haiti ***disappear***.. | |

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 2/2/2008 10:39:41 PM | West Palm Beach, Florida
That was the location choice of my ex bf's emplyer to send his 10 best employes and partners, all expense paid, at the Ritz Carlton.
The beach and hotel was great. But the rest....traumatising. Big pretentious mansions everywhere, one of wich was Trump's house. Everything looked fake. The trees, the bushes, all perfectly trimmed. I wanted to yank branches out to make them real. No trash to be found (good), but no trash cans anywhere (not good). Weird. Everytime i had to put out a cigarette, i was looking left and right, expecting a lady to hit me with her Hermes bag.
Everything was so white, so rich, so fake. It made me feel very uncomfortable, and pissy. At one point i just needed out, and went exploring for something real, walked over a bridge and landed in the real world again. Going from luxury to misery, only separated by one tiny bridge.
I later saw a documentary on Palm Beach's society. Turns out there are still country clubs that dont allow black people and jewish. No wonder that for the whole week, i had a 'something is not right here' feeling.

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 2/16/2008 10:32:28 AM | | Morocco....In all my travels I have never felt violated and afraid for my own safety in daylight. Females should never travel alone! Although, the Sahara Desert is an adventure I will never forget! | |

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 2/17/2008 5:43:12 AM | I can't remember what state it was in, but a City/Town called Manassas. It was horribly conceived in planning, nothing to do, and it smelled. On the plus side they had a nice restaurant which I forgot the name.
Good thing it was only 1 night, but when traveling through the states I detour it whenever I head that direction.

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 2/18/2008 6:39:49 PM | Alaska yukon in summer, near Fairbanks, A muskag swamp, the mosquitoes will kill you and the water is freezing cold and stinks when you break through the moss and fall into it. A very long, miserable hike. The cheapest motel in Dayton Ohio would be second. | |

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 2/22/2008 4:31:24 AM | My experience of Napoli wasn't good when I was there in 1995. I was in a street market and there were some seedy characters selling, obviously stolen, cameras and video cameras, as I was leaving there 2 guys tried to steal my wallet and I had to fight them off. Straightaway an expensive car with 4 Africans in it drove up and one of them leaned out and told me off (siding with the would-be thieves). I said nothing and walked away, and then an old Italian man who spoke good English came up and warned me that I was in danger and would be wise to leave the area. I thanked him and followed his advice without delay. I also saw Gypsy women try to rob tourists in a tour group. Their technique was to hold up a piece of cardboard in front of a person to distract them while they or others reached for the persons valuables. On this occasion they were unsuccessful because an American lady guiding the group pointed them out and warned everyone. It was pretty bad alright. I've read that they have made a real effort since then to clean up crime, I don't know whether that is true but there is not much about the place that would draw me back. There is an excellent museum there though, it has a lot of stuff from Pompeii and Herculeneum as well as Mummies and artifacts from ancient Egypt.

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 2/22/2008 7:54:59 AM | Worst places?
1) Any place just outside the city limits of a Mexican border town. Extreme poverty and very depressing.
2) The interior of Jamaica away from the tourist areas. For the same reasons as above.
3) LA - Overpriced, crowded, traffic jams. If there were a Hell on Earth..it would pale in comparison to Monday morning in LA.
4) Detroit - It's scary that this country allowed a major city to collapse like this one. It's almost like being in the Third World.
5) Niagara Falls USA/Canada - The Falls are beautiful. But both towns are ticky-tack. And the US side is extremely bad.

| Worst place you ever been? Posted: 2/22/2008 10:00:44 AM | | Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England. Depressing place and i stayed there for 3 years. the streets were like walking through a mine field of dog poo. The walls covered in graffiti and there were burnt and run down buildings everywhere. I got robbed in Grimsby, i had a chicken from the chip shop cooked on outside and ice in the middle, half the people are rude and have the highest crime rate in lincolnshire, theres street races at night also. Grimsby is grim by name, grim by nature. | |
