Sweethang,

Thanks for that....very educational, although taken way too literally!!

whoooa!!!! What religion did you say you believed in???

That was a snore!!
Life is to be enjoyed and if no one is getting hurt, then it's no one elses business what I or anyone else thinks about!!!
Too ridiculous to even comment on all the other stuff typed in your post. I want to know what a person's personal belief is, not that of a bible.
If someone believes in these quotes then fine, but he stated later that he didn't believe in what the bible said.
The point of these forums is to give your own opinion and if you need to quote something, because you believe in that quote, then that's fine.
He didn't!

Are you sure you are Chrisian??? Second I NEVER said I did't believe what He said, I was just saying that, He Jesus Christ said that NOT me. I believe in what the Bible said, but just saying that it's the Bible that says it and not from me.

Also mame, try to know what you are posting too, instead of getting fired up at someone else ok?

EGADS

i leave for a day and people go all thumpy again..

people.. if this jesus guy said stuff and other people wrote it down, and you look at the way they talked back then, then really everything he said was open for interpretation even then. The whole bible is literally written on Hear Say.

PLUS.. when was the last time you saw a re-enactment of some bible story where a person was there taking notes? Asside from the fact it was a movie or play, you can rest assured that much of these "Gospels" were recorded from memory. Last thing jesus and crew wanted was to draw attention from authorities and have the "quotes written for evidence". So after a few hundred translations, language differences and mistaken innuendos, you have the Bible.

so really, please stick to using your own thoughts?

PLEASE?

irish... thanks for the compliments.

i haven't much issue with religion itself... I'd prefer people believed in humanity rather than some unseen force, you know, we'd see more proactive results to problems.. For me, I firmly believe in Karma and our own personal energies affecting those around us, blah blah, we're not here to talk about me.

But, if half the time spent in "worship" was spent in community service, road side garbage collecting or even just being more patient in traffic, the world would be a better place.. Praying for something don't make it so.. after all - and I'm sure "bible quote lady" can find the right passage - the lord helps those who help themselves..

but whether or not you're spiritual in any sense of the word, you can still formulate an opinion based on your own thoughts and not just regurgitating some pfaff from some book.. heck, I could start making random quotes from "Relationships For Dummies" but it won't help me date. Dating helps me date. ha ha

experiences and knowledge acquired from actually living life, having friends and enemies, and good and bad times is what makes these forums so much fun. Hearing perspectives from people who have experienced things in way I never - or may never - experience in the same way is valuable fodder...

the topic was about mental cheating.. is it cheating or is it just harmless fantasy?
I once dated a gal who had some weird "ex" stories. She told me of a dream she had involving some pretty hot escapades which didn't include her bf at the time. She woke up in a sweat, and of course had been vocal and "responsive" in her sleep. He had been watching with a smile the whole time. When she focused and saw him she was stunned and a bit embarrased.. Was I good? he asked her - and she replied, um, well actually , you weren't in it.
After an hour or so of "well who were you dreaming of then" the argument ended with him not touching her for a week and some. He said he was hurt she wasn't dreaming of him. He then accused her of cheating in real life, or at least WANTING to and etc..

I've discovered that many other people who have this problem with not being able to "control" their dreams have the same responses from their spouses for the most part.
Interestingly, the "angry" spouses always think these people are cheating anyway - even before the "dreams".
So one has to wonder if the whole mental cheating thing isn't related to the self esteem of the listener who is always just making it the fantasizer's fault they have low self esteem anyway - and this "fantasy" is just icing on that cake...

Just a few points...

1) The Bible available in your neighborhood bookstore wasn't translated hundreds of times, but actually is derived from Greek, Aramiac, Syriac, and a few other manuscripts, dated to around AD 70 at the latest (NT). The OT sources are even older (remember those Dead Sea Scrolls)? The gospels were written by first-hand witnesses or by their close compatriots. This rules out the "corruption through multiple translations" bit.

2) Actually, again, OT and NT scribal copying was *very much* concerned with the actual letter of the law. What do think Christ mean when he talked about "every jot and tittle"? Those are some of the smallest marks in the Hebraic alphabet. This kind of concern was cultural for the Jews, and the Christians afterward continued it. Even the Bible itself talks about the importance of every word. This rules out the "it's all open for interpretation" bit.

3) It's hard to get people to die for something that they know is a lie. We're talking rustic life; we're talking ostracized by culture, state, and family. We're talking a true death sentence from the government. There's a thousand times a thousand reasons and opportunities to renounce their faith and yet, given Christianity's wildfire spread, there's no evidence that they did so. Somehow the Jewish leaders of the day were powerless to stop the Christians -- nothing they did worked, not even murderous hit squads. This rules out the "conspiracy to spread lies" bit.

I could go on, but you get the idea.

Disagreement is one thing -- ignorance is another.

Ok, promise not to mention the Bible once,..DOH, Homer!!!... not once more.

Between all the banter I did read a couple things that made me scratch my head. One said something about we can't control our thoughts, not entirely true. Dreams are dreams, thoughts while we are sleeping. Thoughts while we are awake we can control. Sure thoughts come up from the subconcious but you either entertain them or dismiss them. I think it would be more a choice as to whether you wanted to go there or not. If you choose to is your choice plain and simple.

Only other thing I'd like to point out is, if it is ok, and in the middle of the down and dirty it is your partner that screams another name, how would it make you feel, so far the only thoughts on the matter have been ones that were looking at it the other way. Ha, ha, just caught you fantazing again didn't I... laugh and think it's ok honey bun! Then proceed to close your eyes and cuddle and think all is right in the world?

Me personally, I'm terrible with names at the best of times, so the one I'm with is the one I'm with because that is our choice. Perhaps I'ld change my mind if I was in a relationship that was long term and had lost some of it's flavour, actually don't think I would, rather I think I'ld consider moving on. Who's to say?

Wow! has this thread been rumbling, tumbling,& thumping!...
All over a fantasy?... ...Boy,am I in trouble!...

[My right hand cheats on my left hand all the time]..... ...too funny!

Hmm...interesting thought OP (about the fantasizing part)
I no no way see it as cheating. It is what it is,a fantasy,a mere thought.

Myself,my only thoughts are of the man I'm with &
what fantasy we can make a reality!...

A Pastor at a christian church once said that if the birds fly over your head and don't nest on it, you're o.k. But, if the birds land on your head and stay there, then you have a problem.

So it is with mental cheating. The lust for another woman while you are with a woman in your presense is mental cheating. And before long, you want that other woman more than the one you are dating or sleeping with. And then you call the other woman to see how she is doing, or, she calls you and then you meet her. And not tell the gf you are with. That is CHEATING.

^^ you know... this is a good analogy :

if the birds fly over your head and don't nest on it, you're o.k. But, if the birds land on your head and stay there, then you have a problem.

mental cheating in regards to this thread is about thoughts and jerking off per se.. ha ha
not meeting them and calling them and having a fixation on them..

like having a crush on an actor / actress. You're never going to meet them, and even if you did, it's unlikely most people would leave their spouse for a one off...

So the reason why it's excellent you used that bird analogy is because you cannot control "birds" flying over your head, but you can prevent them from landing on it.. you can wave your arms, run, scream, crawl under a table and sob uncontrollably...
Just like you can "think" of someone in a sexual light without actually making it your life's mission to shag them... Day dreaming of robbing a bank, or killing someone doesn't make you a thief or murderer.. acting on them does.

tee heeā„¢

though something disturbs me about "birds" landing on my head... heh heh

this one is so easy if my woman wanted another then she wouldn't be my woman anymore if she doesn't feel like she's the luckiest woman in the world for being with me then she should find the person who really makes her happy and by the way movie stars are not unattianable

Hey, don't shoot the messenger, I just quoted the word. You asked, I pulled it up for you. Do I believe in it? Yes, I do. I wouldn't be a Christian, if I didn't -- at least, according to the bible. Personally, I was raised that way, and I try to live my life according to it, although I'm sure I'm not of the majority. Naturally, I'm not here to tell anyone to live differently. What everyone else does is between them and God. As for me, I'll leave my thoughts pure -- at least the ones I can control.

Guess it would depend... if you are thinking about someone
all the time in a romantic way and longing to be with them...
while with someone else.. then I would say its emotional cheating
of sorts...
but until you actually act upon it... it is just a thought. Gguess it would
greatly depend on some specifics and would have to involve more than just thinking
about someone.

For example... you could get mad at someone and think about
killing them but that does not make you a murderer.. unless you act upon it...
just as you are not a cheater unless you also act on it.

You also have to keep in mind that unless the feeling is mutual and
you act on it... it is maybe nothing more than fantasy.. maybe on one part
only... which is pretty much a waste of time in my opinion.

I remember a converation with my Grandmother years and years ago.
My sister got mad because she saw Grandpa looking at women at the park.
My Grandmother smiled and said "Well hon, when he quits looking, he's either dead, blind or no good to me."
