Women that think this are probably thinking it because of a few bad experiences. To each their own, if they want to stay away from all pilots because of that, go ahead that's there choice.

When we fly in a plane, our lives are in their hands right? Ultimately in Gods hands obviously. But you know what I mean.

Actually I wonder how many people would still fly if they realized that most of the time, (sometimes including landing and take off) your life is in the hands of a computer.

WOW!! So many people on here with opinions and ideas and some MS Flight Sim time! To all of those believing that some pilots are jerks...well you're right. But I mean let's be honest, this is the most un-natural act a human can take on, so forgive some of them for watching way too much TOP GUN. How many cops are dogs or have god syndrome...let's not argue that with me, because I know too many... how about firemen? Again...let's leave that alone shall we...

Now I'm sure I've got an attitude about my flying and any pilot out there who doesn't think he can be or is the best is a liar!! But I don't know about any other pilot on here, but I fly for me.... if I date a girl and she comes flying, it's because I'm showing her something of my world that I'm damned proud of, not to get laid as some people seem to believe...

fine2dine...thanks for the model on when the job hits a worst case scenario, while still on the ground none the less... While this is a job, and usually fairly straight forward, there are so many items that can link up to ruin your day as all pilots know, and when you manage to avert tragedy on some level every time because of your own judgement it's a great feeling isn't it!

Aviation is a tough world, and people who make it or have the drive to make it are gonna have chips on their shoulders somewhere. Everyone has an ego. It's between your id and your superego so let's not be fooled! As for people thinking "this is like a cop or a firefighter"...I would say no it's not. It's much much worse, but oh so much better. worst case scenario for a pilot is trying to control something that is out of control until the very last moment in time as any good pilot would fight not for anything, but his airplane. while even going back to the days of working a Cessna 152 out of a Spin or Spiral Dive in PPL flight training on the hopes that the back to basics approach will save all. But best case scenario tops all as a moment in time where you yourself feel imortalized and humbled, in the view of the world that all can walk on, but only a few can streak across unbound by the soles of our feet.

Btw...I'm a single guy... I get lonely... so as for pilots being dogs... I can't speak for all, but I know I'm not. I'm still a virgin... not a practicing one anymore, but you get my point

This is kind of a fun thread to me for a few reasons.

The Great Things About Pilots:
First: I worked on a Marine Corps Air Station, so pilots are very very sexy and appealing to me.
Second: I also think we misjudge them alot. Though they might come off as stuck on themselves, when you talk to them on a daily basis they were always more humbled by their jobs and felt blessed to be in that situation.
Third: Free Flights...hello? I am a gypsy of course thats appealing.

The Bad Things About Pilots:
First: They are gone alot and when in the service, its much scarier.
Second: "Girl In Every Port Syndrome"

You will find positive's and negatives in any job classification and men. I wouldn't and haven't eliminated any potential dates based on their job or income. Whats the point..You could miss out on the love of your life

Yep, my X-husband was pretty damn arrogant. But I'm sure it had much more to do with his European upbringing. I'm actively seeking another pilot. I like the benefits, usually the income, and independent the time apart.

Hi Hypoxic,

I get what your saying completely. In my case, my x couldn't bond by talking about anything besides acronyms...(alphabet soup as I learned it's called in Journalism). I do feel for pilots after being married to one, because it's like being a truckers wife, where it's not only the multiple days away occur regularly but multiple weeks during trainings away as well. Many women are clingly, not me, but it was my x whom was, and he drove me nuts as pilot from a distance calling as if I'd forget he existed if he didn't remind me over and over. I'm not a cheater. From a woman's point of view beneies are great, not easy to be stand by at all. But travel is nice(if you've picked a guy generally speaking that you get along with). I was with one who believed a shrink, if he went to one, WOULD automatically turn his personal psychologicaly problems over to the FAA to get his liscense revoked. Too bad, if he worked on his "stinking thinking," we might still be married!

I had a long term, serious relationship with an airline pilot...

and I can tell you he was not arrogant (not with me anyway cuz he knew better)...but some of his pilot friends did seem to have that superior attitude at times. Other times they were all super cool great guys to hang around with.

Ya just have to remind them now and then that alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll they are is frikken Glorified Bus Drivers in the sky. whoopdie-doo.

and men (ok ok ok and women) from all kinds of careers can be quite arrogant. It stems from their personality, not their vocation.

BTW "glamour" in all the jet setting and world travel?? Hmmmm well yes that's all exciting at first when he/she's new at the job. But it doesn't take long before they get SICK and TIRED of the BAG DRAG...from the airport to the hotel and back and again.

Most of them I knew simply wanted TO BE AT HOME for a while. My ex's idea of the PERFECT VACATION was to put up a little fence around the couch and just be able to sit there completely undisturbed for a few days. delays, crowds, taxis, jet-lag, schedules, lugguage, weird food, missing home, no privacy ....it gets to many of them after a while.

OMG! I had an experience on here with one that sent me a message and I messaged back and it was friendly to start with, then he asked 'where do we go from here' and I explained I wasn't interested, he goes and insults me by saying 'well I date prettier and slimmer women than you and he said I should have 'portion control' Uhhh hello? I'm not fat and I shot him back a message saying he thought he was a god because he was a pilot and he prefers anorexic women over a real woman with curves and he was a shallow fool and I blocked him! I know astronauts and this guy has nothing on them. some people really don't get it!

To the poster asking about female airline pilots:

I have a great friend who is an airline pilot, and a female. She is a wonderful person who cannot do enough for the people in her life.

So that shoots down the theory that all airline pilots are arrogant in one shot!

Pilots are like anyone else. There are good people who are pilots, and bad people who are pilots. I would not rule out dating someone who is a pilot--why would I rule someone like myself out??? Even though I do not fly professionally, I do have my pilot's license and have enjoyed flying for pleasure over the years. I hope to start flying again soon, as I miss it so much.

I nearly busted a gut laughing (at myself) cuz I usually just give kind of a glance over the forum topics (when the page first loads) to see if there is anything interesting....

Somehow I thought the OP's topic was "a question about AUTO pilots and dating" LOL Mile High Club Material??? LMBAO...I need to get more sleep...my brain is fried. LOL

Dave aka BHG

P.S. Those definitely wouldn't be cheap dates, that's for sure, even with Air Miles...LOL

Here, Here!

I am a pilot and own a aviation business selling recreational aircraft on the GA side. I do travel somewhat twice a year, Sun & Fun (Lakeland, FL) and Oshkosh, WI. The first is only 2 hrs away but I am there for the week. Oshkosh is a good 12 days on the road. I had been with the same woman for 16 yrs until just a few months ago....Never, not once, had I considered 'stepping out' with someone else on the road (or at home either).

For the ladies thinking all pilots cheat, remember it's a two way street and the opposite can happen also. In my case I came home to find out that my gal was cheating on me with a lesbian co-worker! Now that's a slap in the face!

I do not have any negative views on pilots. I know only a handful but they are very loyal and caring in their relationships.

I realize this is an old thread.
I just ran across this topic.
But now that I am in my dotage and past my sell by date,
I thought to myself, I have done the doctor, lawyer, chemical engineer thing
Who could possibly peak my interest?
So I said to myself, self , maybe some old git who is a few years off from hanging up his wings.
And I have always loved to fly.
Airline pilots must interesting ,right?
Stories to tell , places they’ve been, humorous anecdotes.
Well after reading these posts, sounds to me they are a right bunch of whankers.
Gives me pause to think about flying altogether.
Just thought I would add my observations
looks like I'll go to plan B

Having dated several pilots over the years, I think it is ridiculous to put them all in the same category. First there are all sorts of pilots......from a Delta (big bucks guy) to someone running freight for UPS. ....even to those that own their own planes. They are as different as the planes they fly. But most importantly, at the end of the day, they are just people..mostly men and they get in their pants the same way everyone else does.....one leg at a time.
My experiences, while totally different, were all very positive.

My father had a license to fly a Cessna way back when and all the employment he had afterward was related to aircraft for military purposes. Everyone's not the same I know but he displayed every bad attribute a player could ever possess.

Based on a few experiences in my own life later I'm not interested in people in the military or airline industry period whether they can fly or not. Don't really care if it's irrational -- my choice.

The arrogant reputation of pilots actually dosn't come from the public!!!

Yea I've heard a lot about how pilots are so arrogant bulah bulah from my friends who are airhostess... but hay i dnt judge them!

Thing is that most pilots are older than airhostess, so they treat the airhosties as juniors. but it could be sometimes MISTAKEN by the girls as "lack of respect" or " the pilots were being arrogant"... fact is that they were just being men... lovable/hateable.

even tho some people MAY have negative views on pilots but dosn't mean they don't appreciate the work they do, that's complete different area!

I met a guy on here he wears a pilots uniform, it was an easy way for him to be able to say he wasn't in town while he was dating other women , while making me feel like I was the only one. When actually he hasn't been a pilot for over 15 years. He is on quite a few dating sites, making him self out to have money , live in a different town, also saying he is divorced while he is still married.
My sister is a flight attendant and she said she would never date a pilot because of how self centered they are, she was right. What a liar he is. And he is still here under a a profile with no pic, so I couldn't catch him.
So see? All good reasons to date me, so why not give it a shot? He says.

I met soem women at some "high society" event....she was like a 40 something single, enver married no kids woman....she said she liked dating Airline Pilots, because they are hardly every around like an annoying boyfriend is.

Apparenlty, some independent working women prefer the lack of availability of pilots.

I have seen the "pilots are a-holes" thing over and over again.

I am 29. Currently a pilot for the US Navy. I have friends who run the gamut from recreational pilot who makes money doing some other job, to airlines to fellow military pilots. Personally, I have flown things from very small helicopters to cargo planes, to currently flying a jet trainer.

Pilots come in all varieties. However, I have seen very little cheating by married military pilots. VERY bad collateral damage to the few who do and get caught (Courts Martial is a high possibility). Now, I do have some single friends who do seem to have a female acquaintance pretty much every where we go. I was married for 4 years, and on the road/at sea for a good chunk of it. Never cheated once from the day we started dating until the day the divorce papers were signed over 5 years later.

I can see the women not liking the whacked out schedule. I can more or less count on not working most weekends, but I may have to work until 0200 on Saturday (coming in late Friday) or having to come in at 0300 Monday morning which wipes out most anything past 1800 on Sunday. And I generally won't know if that is the case until the workday before.

The majority of the pilots I know, both civil and military are decent, honrable guys/gals. The guys who are unabashed "man whores" are single, and quite honest with women that they are out to have fun, but are NOT looking to settle down anytime soon (my divorce may have influenced a couple of them).

Now them lawyers, those are the ones you have to watch out for..

I have alot of friends who are or were pilots when they were alive. They are/were wonderful people who helped me alot after my Dad died. One in particular was like a father to me, and his wife like a second "mom". We would go flying, and Flo would have home made Italian food ready for us when we came home. Back in the day when I was a flight instructor I had very supportive customers who were wonderful people. I like the general aviation crowd of pilots who fly for pleasure. Many are or were older, and have passed away. I miss them all so much--many died of natural causes, but one died in a very tragic plane crash at age 55. I am so glad that they were part of my life, and am grateful for the flying "buddies" who are still living. They touched my heart in ways that can never be counted--I learned just as much about how to be a better person and friend from these old-timers as well as how to be a better pilot.

It makes sense that airline pilots would have an elevated sense of themselves. About 35,000 fet, I'd say.
