I've said it before, "love thy neighbor, both literally and figuratively"  Life is too short, challenging your preconceptions and misconceptions is the way to be happy and discovering the beauty in a place where you never thought to look is the key. | |

Posted: 4/21/2008 10:07:53 PM | I grew up in a small rural farming community in Southern, Illinois. In my youth, racism was alive and well but I never felt comfortable with the attitudes. One of the turning points in my life was the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King. I studied the man and his hopes and dreams in High School. I felt it truly changed my whole thought process and made me become. I fell we are first and foremost all human beings and yes there are different ethnic backgrounds and beliefs. However, who are we to judge what is right or wrong when people of different ethnic backgrounds find love between them. I'm a person who is more interested in what is in the heart of a lady and not the color of her skin. So with that said, and having experienced dating ladies of different ethnic backgrounds and having wondeful dates, I'm pro interracial dating. I'm more concerned with my happiness than I am with receiving approval from a community who passes judgement on people they don't even know. | |

People are people... skin colour has no meaning for me except aesthetically (some people have really nice skin... of all colours) Culture might be more of an issue... guess it depends on whether two people can mesh different cultures.

It's not always necessary, anyway, except for simpletons, to have to "identify" 100% with one particular ethnic or racial group anymore. It seems to me that people who are of two ethnicities or two races tend to "identify" more strongly with whichever was stronger when they were growing up. For instance if someone's dad was originally from Greece, and the mother was just American let's say.....and the culture on his paternal side growing up was pretty strong (hearing the language , etc) and plus his name is very ethnic, he might well end up calling himself pretty much just "Greek" or "Greek-American", and not going into whatever all his mom's little American mixture happened to be. Granted that's not biRACIAL , but still........ it's similar with the biracial as well. Some identify more as black, others may more as white. Or whatever the mix is. Anyway IMO mixed peoples happen to be some of the most attractive people in many cases, physically. | |

Posted: 5/4/2008 6:56:11 AM | I agree with the last post... Interracial kids are the luckiest. You look at some of the movie stars/ models that looks GOOD! Naomi Campbell, Tiger Woods, Kiora Lee-Simmons, Russell Wong, the girl from Smallville, etc... They end up looking exotic which appeals to a lot of people. All nationalities have good looking people!
However, my problem as an Asian girl is trying to figure out if the guy that is asking me out is interested in me or the fact that I'm Asian. No one likes to be stereo-typed for good or bad... I know there's a lot of fettish for Black/Asian/Hispanic girls based on sexual thoughts. For any ethnic guy to date a White girl is a status symbol. No one likes to be an object... If you like a person for who they are, what their nationality they are should not matter.
However, my personal preference is Asian but if I meet a great guy, the skin color doesn't matter. | |

I know a lot of interracial couples, and the horror stories they tell about how they've been treated in public by bigoted people is not only shameful, but downright scary.
