Posted: 9/9/2009 3:39:51 PM | It's not hard to date interracially in Alabama...no more than anywhere else. My ex wife was black/korean and we would get the occasional looks when we went out...and it was usually one of two cliches:
1. Thuggish black guys trying to "punk" me out with stares or stupid comments about not being able to handle a black woman.
2. Dumb rednecks yelling out "n-lover" when we're coming out of a movie theater or club late at night.
You deal with crap like that in dating anyway...just in different ways. Like if you date "up"(as far as physical attraction goes) there will always be some drunk who thinks that if he makes himself available to your lady that she'll just leave you right that minute because he's "better" looking. Those types can be easily ignored or if they press on, they can usually be put on their backs pretty easily as well.
For the most part, I haven't had any situations that I would deem "important problems" in interracial dating. And from what I hear, in Alabama people are actually LESS vocal than up north about their displeasure with your interracial date(just based on what my friends from up north have told me). So yeah, give it a shot...people are people and you're going to run into disapproving dumbazzes no matter who you date. Good luck | |
