Surprised no one has mentioned black metal from Brazil, Japan, America, Germany, and what not.

I don't even look towards Norway, not anymore, despite still listening to Darkthrone and Emperor.

Xasthur, Inquisition, Leviathan, Nargaroth, and Impeity have caught my attention lately, and even Funeral Mist from Sweden has more BM in its offerings than Norwegian black metal. And remember, Bathory (Quorthon, RIP), the blueprint for much black metal, was Swedish as well.

and don't forget MERCYFUL FATE/KING DIAMOND----

i saw that history of metal doc on VH1 classic (great channel btw) ---there are so many subgenres of metal now i cant even keep up anymore...dont really care for most of the black metal bands, MORTiiS is cool though (from norway, who i think are considered black metal ? i consider them more industrial/techno though ---and i dont even know if that is a 'subgenre' or not, lol)

wow..that was quite possibly the most retarded thing i've ever heard.

actually, 24-7 Spyz and the BAD BRAINS (my personal fave) both belong to a subgenre called AFRO-PUNK, lol

i really like the 'symphonic' metal bands, especially OPETH and FATES WARNING, but they are considered 'progressive' death (and not black) metal bands

I'm surprised only 1 person in the whole thread mentioned Gorgoroth.

And back on subject, as long as Frost, Satyr, Gaahl, Necrobutcher, Abbath, and Horgh are around, black metal will live on. Hails.

Black Metal, I love Black Metal!!

Some of my favorite black metal bands are:
Absurd, Burzum, Graveland, Grand Belial's Key, Blasphemy, Inquisition, Deathspell Omega, Grom, Mystifier, Nifelheim, Profanatica, Havohej, Goat Semen, Crimson Moon, Immortal, Funeral Mist, Veles, Temnozor, Windir, Drudkh, Master's Hammer, Moonblood, TAAKE, Watain, Von,........................and the list goes on and on

The Black Metal scene is still pretty strong.

I can't stand Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth though!

With alot of people debating whether Black Metal is dead or not is always questionable. Some of the bands that went mainstream like "Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, etc." Are crap, they were good bands with their early albums but later decide to go mainstream to make more money. As with alot of other bands of any genre, money always blinds musicians.

For numerous BM bands. Is all the same, there is a few that really stand out that are actually a worth listening to. When it first started it was great. different styles and philosophy, but sadly a lot are just a dime in a dozen so to speak.

Arguably, people debate that Eastern Europe is holding the torch for Black Metal as some stay in that genre or go the NSBM route (Nationalist Socialist Black Metal). It's pretty much your cup of tea whether you like the philosophy of Asatru, Satanism (LaVey, or an actual god), or Nationalist Socialist.

Personally, I like the old bands (old) Gorgoroth, Darkthrone, Immortal, (old) Dimmu Borgir, etc. As suppose to the newer BM and some of the NSBM bands.

when the living hell did MSI EVER claim to be BM? LOLZ. Anyone who thinks MSI is BM clearly needs their head checked hahahahaha.

That actually reminds me of a story from school, in english, i was listenin to my ipod and the chick next to me asked what i was listening to and i was all "i'm pretty sure you wouldn't even know the genre" she's like "cmon tell me" "black metal" "like MSI?"

I proceeded to bust out laughing and interrupt class hahaha, that was back in 05 =P.

MSI is pretty kvlt and necro! they got blast beats ov frostbitten gr1mness! LOLLERCOPTER

I kid I kid. A lot of bands claim to be a particular genre but show no influence of it what so ever. Like Trivium (Trendium) claim to be thrash while their older albums were metalcore and their latest album is a complete Metallica clone. That's just in my own opinion.

I fail to see how Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth are consider mainstream sellouts.
I remember when Cradle was underground in the early 90's playing with bands like Emperor, Darkthrone and etc. They were the first british black metal band at the time. Just because they're makeing money now, I hate to break the news to you but every band needs to make money in order distribute their albums and go on tour. The days of burning churches, and lets see who's more evil been over for several years. I like some of the new black metal bands that are out. They kind of remind me of the old bands. Only one metal band ever truely sold out was Metallica, but I'll save that for another thread cause I can go on and on about how much they disgust me. Eveybody is entitle to their opinion, and not everyone is going to like the same bands.

Because people don't like Danni Filth's cat shrieks. jk jk

It all depends on what people like. There' always people that are black metal elitists that say Dimmu Borgir and CoF are not "true". It really doesn't matter how long they've been around. It's the musicianship and philosophy behind that what makes it great.

Church burnings still go on. Rarely, but they go on. It's all over the world. Just because of what happened in Norway stopped doesn't mean it's all over the world. May not happen in newer bands, but fans do it despite the fact they're ****ing nuts.

I don't know if this has been asked elsewhere, but have any of you listened to the infamous black metal prank phone call? It's rather old, but still damn funny. I highly recommend checking it out, if you haven't already. At the risk of being banned, I won't post a link here; however, if you go to YouTube and type in "black metal prank call," you can check it out there.

We need to keep this forum alive.. I've been listening to Enthroned and some OLD Gorgoroth lately.

Check out this Mayhem Interview of Necrobutcher drunk. This always makes me laugh.
