Typically when someone can't spell, or use proper grammar, it's indicative of a lack of education or good communication skills. Not always, but often. If you want to be able to carry on a conversation with the person you're dating, it's not a good sign.

the sky is falling - I am going to agree with FB again - if you are anal rententive about spelling and grammar, kindly do not trouble yourself to contact me. I do not have any patience for perfectionists, as I have usually found them to be obsessive, impatient, and controlling.

I worked with a lovely man, kind-hearted, first in line to help the needy. He can not spell well, punctuate accurately, nor always use grammar correctly. He has dyslexia. Family and friends do not mind; they know if they ever need a helping hand, he will be the first to offer his.

I prefer to judge people by what is in their hearts. The fact that you can spell correctly, doesn't make you a good person, nor necessarily someone I would like in my life. IMHO

Well I do know what these pefectionest are really meaning when they say mis-spelling and impropper grammar turns them off.
And I will tell everyone what that is.
You see anyone who thinks mis-spelling or bad gramar useage is bad !
Well their just meaning that if you can't use propper grammar your a low life who does not earn very much income and your not even in their class of people!!
LOL
Okay slap me I had to say it !LOL

And how many times have we all seen jay leno's headlines on monday nights and seen those headlines with all the missed spelling in them . Are these not you so called profectionest at work who proof read these headlines before printing is done????

So what I am saying if you wish to be a so called perfectionist just do it with your own writing and your own profiles and let the other people do theirs in their own style and do their profiles how they want them.

What if people told you or came in to your bedroom and told you your not making love the proper way and made changes on how you must conduct love making ??
Yes its very RUDE and thats how I take anyone who feels they should be able to redo someones profile or make corrections to someones use of grammar.

You all call me rude for being honest on everything I do or say.
Well to me your even more rude then me as you think you should have the right to change things are not yours to change !!

If wish to be controlling then control yourself instead and don't try to controll everyone else please!
You are you and I am me !
I have no intentions of changing who you are so don't try to controll everyone else who is not like you.

It's a preference like anything else. I prefer to be aquainted with people who can communicate clearly. If they can't, they might as well be speaking another language. Someone going to jump down my throat for not wanting to date non-English speakers?

Do I limit myself entirely on this basis? Absolutely not, but all other things being equal, I prefer the person who can communicate a coherent thought in a language I understand.

OK, I think I have to agree with FB on a statement such as that. However, keep in mind, that I will avoid the bedroom of someone who does not make love enjoyable to myself. In the same note, I will avoid the profiles of people who cannot convey their message in a coherent manner. Yes, avoid, rather than attempt to change. There are far too many more important things in life, than going after that which is unachievable.

The rules of POF: never talk about POF, and never admit to agreeing with FB, even when you do.

And here's why: the walking into the bedroom thing is a specious arguement. Unless you're at some sort of clinic for sexual disfunction, that scenario is highly unlikely, and if you were, you'd be seeking said advice anyway. If you exercise poor use of grammar, it is far more likely you'll come into contact with someone who doesn't understand you, and may attempt to correct you in order to avoid future misunderstandings.

And never fear, if you're ****ing the wrong way, your partner will tell you, one way or the other. If you object to that critique of your abilities, you might find yourself practising the erotic arts solo.

I am sometimes concerned by the level of literacy found within the PoF environment; however, I have a greater concern regarding this issue. The last statistic, which I have read, concerning illiteracy (I do not like this term as the connotations can be misleading) was that one in eight people are illiterate. There are a host of reasons why the ability to read/write is not at the 100% level; however, it should be mentioned that it usually has nothing to do with intelligence and individuals which lack the ability to read/write have learned many unique and ingenious methods of coping.

Should this be of concern to any of my fellow PoFers, then I would invite you to visit your local library (or Literacy Council) and volunteer to tutor an adult...

Feel free to e-mail me privately, should you have any questons concerning this.

Peace.

I find that really funny. I think life is about bigger things then checking other people's speech patterns/writing habits/typos and spelling mistakes, unless someone is offering me money to do so. Then different rules apply. I must say I think some people have way too much time on their hands when they let this get to them. The best has to be when someone writes that they have issues with other people's writing and spelling and will hold it against them....nine times out of ten there will always be "some college" there. I guess that their dabbling in whatever community college is their entitlement...

Well, gringo, college for me was technical college, as in welding. It had nothing to do with literacy, more to do with comprehension. I can read a welding blueprint, but for the life of me, I can't read most of the profiles on this site. I can understand Dr. Seuss books, but still can't understand what some people are attempting to convey in their opening messages. I stand by my statement that I will avoid the profiles and opening messages of the careless, or otherwise preoccupied. I have way too many things to entertain me than deciphering gibberish. If the rest of you wish to carry on proliferation of the **stardization of the English language, feel free to do so.

Edit: Oops! Apparently I used a forbidden word. My apologies.

"their work" :-)

It's pretty pointless being concerned with spelling online or in email.
Proper spelling is becoming a lost art.

I disagree with you spelling and grammar has nothing to do with a person, for all you know it may not even be there first language.

In my professional life I do transcription for a living. In that setting correct grammar and spelling are essential, so I spend my day correcting other people's gramatical errors as they dictate, and hope that my spelling is correct....and for that I say thank God for spelling and grammar check.

But in my private life I do not go around correcting other people's grammar, nor do I care (much) about spelling mistakes, though some are rather atrocious.

I don't know how many times I have posted thoughts on these forums, and then gone back over them later and seen the mistakes I have made and then that professional part of myself spills over, shakes it head and tells me I should know better. But what the hay eh? That's life.

There are exceptions of course, some people don't seem to care or bother to even take the time to think about what they are saying (typing). In all honesty, typing is a royal pain, but this is they way we commuicate now, and its great to be able to be in touch with so many people in so places. If you speak to people things are a lot different, and then spelling doesn't come into play at all, though grammar often does. I think for most people though, speaking properly comes much easier than typing properly. So myself, I wouldn't judge people by their typos.

Besides, there's no spelling and grammar check on here........darn it all..

I have a confession to make:

Sometimes I purposefully misspell words and use incorrect grammar to get back at the people who always correct me. LOL I am a naughty boy I know but sometimes I just can't help it. Once I had a close buddy who's wife was always correcting me about many different things so I started playing dumb on purpose. She had a dremel tool for doing art's and crafts so I called it a dermal tool, sort of a joke as anyone who uses one a lot will eventually get a bloody finger no matter how careful you are. It's like working on a car if you don't bust your knuckles once in awhile.... well you get the picture.

Ohh she was on it like a fly on honey. "It's called a dremel tool not a dermal tool...." "Ohh I said I guess you haven't used it very long have you?" She looked at me funny and didn't know what to say. A few weeks later I was visiting again and she had her finger bandaged up so I asked her what happened. She said she had gotten bit by her dremel tool so I said "Now you know why I call it a Dermal tool hu...? " She looked at me and you could see the light go on in her eyes as she realized what I had met. She never corrected me again not that I don't need it once in awhile but when people make it a hobby it gets old real quick.

I get that urge every day especially in the forums. Some of the very young members have a lot of spelling errors - the school system has failed somewhere - sorry if you young ones find this offensive but it is what I have observed.

Nah it's all good...i don't give a shit about spelling on the intrawebz

You old timers have a whole slew of problems yourselves!

LMAO and those problems would be?!
I would rather be able to communicate in an effective and appropriate manner - in every aspect of my life - especially on the internet - since this is going out to more people than you could imagine. I would rather people believe I was articulate, educated and intelligent - than uneducated and uncaring of how I present myself to the world!
