| Lilac festival Posted: 5/19/2007 10:54:27 AM | | Seeing as how I live between 4th and 5th streets I think that I might be able to make it down to the fest. As for all of you that are driveing down and can't find parking, all I have to say is neener neener. Lol. For real, try parcking west of 5th street towards western high. It is a little bit of a walk, but it isn't that bad. This will be my first fest since I moved to Mission, so I can't wait. Cheers all. | |

| Lilac festival Posted: 5/19/2007 10:55:54 AM | I'm in . I'll keep an eye on this. I love anything that involves music and dancing.
I've never been to the Lilac Fesitival. Should be interesting. I love to try new things.
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/23/2007 9:23:48 PM | | I just might try to get there probably around 11:00. I have a coworker doing some salsa dancing and another coworkers daughter is doing some henna tattoes. So, of course I will try to stop by both of those places. I also heard that the weather will be halfways decent. I have another function to attend later afternoon so can only stay until about 2:30....sheesh.....just the way it goes. | |
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/23/2007 9:41:08 PM | Yes the weather looks to be good for Sunday. Might try this out as well. Have an event in Cochrane that I have to be at in the morning . But hope to find out more as to what is going on in the afternoon after 1:00 | |
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/23/2007 10:28:01 PM | Im hitting Wildwood, Ducky's, and the greek restaurant. Perhaps a bar named sue, fish on the corner there and latin corner patio perhaps. I have to get my tan just right. Have the shade marks on the head. I hear it will be perfect weather!!!!!! | |
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/24/2007 10:20:26 PM | | I'll be there early. Hope to see some of you in the beer tents perhaps? | |
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/25/2007 2:03:03 AM | Join me and the crew in the patio surf!!!!!
Should be a great time had by all!!!!!
However I might ditch the patio experience for some artsy funky crafts, and learning how to 2 step with cuban flare.

| Lilac festival Posted: 5/25/2007 2:45:30 AM | Seeing as I live really close to 4th street and 13th Ave, I think I can manage to waddle down there with DirtBall and check it out for a bit.
As a resident of the area I'm offering up some warnings/comments to help your day go better.
1. Don't even THINK about parking in the Safeway(25th Ave/4th St) parking lot... they DO have security there and they'll tow you away in a heartbeat. Same goes for the parking lot behind Shopper's Drug Mart.
2. Don't even THINK about parking anywhere on 13th or 14th Avenue from 1st St to 4th St. It's either a resident parking only with permit zone or a 2-hour zone, and a lot of that parking is gone because of the massive amounts of construction materials on the street. Besides, the residents have Bylaw on speed-dial.... You'll be towed in a Texas Minute!!
It's probably best if you try to park west of 4th Street, or at the Stampede--- and hoof it from there. There's also a good sized lot at "Cash Corner" ( Centre st and 13th) which is hardly ever used.
3. Don't talk to anyone wearing a hoodie and who is walking around with their head down and/or picking stuff off the ground. There are A LOT-- and I mean A LOT-- of drug users, dealers, and gang members down here.. and many of them are armed. Meth users are very unpredictable and prone to violence, so best give those who are doing the 'meth dance'--a wide berth.
4. If any of you are pot smokers, it's best if you don't do it down there. There is already an increased police presence here because of all the drugs, and on Sunday it will be swarming. So hotbox your vehicle.. and then hoof it down LOL
5. Bring LOTS of water and sunscreen, and wear comfy shoes.
peace out Misha | |

| Lilac festival Posted: 5/25/2007 3:12:29 AM | Safeway parking bregaid is harsh, they do announcements every half hour of unexpecting vehicels. Alright my tyuping is done............... was gunna do "extra"
But uncle johnny convinced himself in da brain that he does it "socially"
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/25/2007 12:55:22 PM | ^^^^^^ Huh!?!?!?!?!?!!!!
The Killers rocked last night
If you want to head down, just park at Heritage LRT, and take the #3 Sandstone bus, takes about 10 minutes to get to 4th street. If they aren't on strike. I was talking with a bus driver yesterday, and it looks like they will be striking.
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/25/2007 6:48:08 PM | What time are people gathering? And where are people hooking up?
Not too late I hope, as the baseball is later that night.
I sure hope it's warm out! I need some sun so I can get some colour on this pale skin.

|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/25/2007 7:00:12 PM | | Ya know I am not sure where and when most are meeting....Yes it is sposed to be warm out.....it will be a day of limited clothing.....ya know...to tan the pure white ivory skin | |
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/25/2007 7:04:42 PM | Boy do I ever need the color. Hope the weather stays good. | |
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/26/2007 1:19:53 PM | | It has always rained around late afternoon EVERY year, but can also be really hot part of the day. Suggest bringing umbrella but wear shorts. And the earlier the better, because the crowds are nuts, until they outlaw stollers and dogs! | |
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/26/2007 2:29:46 PM | How late does it run . I just found out I have to speak at a luncheon in Cochrane from 1230 to 130 Sunday.Probably not back till at least 230
But looking forward to checking this out
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/26/2007 4:48:08 PM | 10-6 if I remember the sign beside Mission Safeway.
Should be a good tanning expirience.
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/26/2007 7:46:05 PM | | I would say 5 not 6 to be safe, at least the clean up begins at 5ish I think. | |
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/23/2008 8:33:34 AM | Possibly heading to the Rose and Crown Sunday... a great live band is playing from 12-5pm!
| |
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/23/2008 9:14:01 AM |
...Should be a good tanning expirience.... Only if the weather man can get the weather to agree with what the populace wants!!
70% chance of showers on Sunday, so I will pass on the mass oggling of fully clad ladies, consuming of horendous amounts of liquor and instead head for lunch and then take a good nap in the afternoon!! Anyone care to join me???
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/23/2008 4:12:57 PM | For those interested, I received this in an email today from Calgarybluesfest.com:
Calgary Bluesfest Preview at Lilac Festival Sunday, May 25th noon to 5pm *stage at SE corner of 21st Ave & 4th St S.W.
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/24/2008 12:32:44 PM | I will likely be attending something at the Lilac Festival this year. Not sure if it will just involve beer gardens and live music or if my social director is going to plan more than that for me! | |
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/24/2008 12:42:27 PM | *reporting live from Mission at 4th and 25th Street here's the scene*
Drinking tents are up at BLVD, Earls & they look to be setting up one at Joyce on 4th. I suspect Original Joe's will do the same. It's going to be a sloppy day tomorrow so I bet you'll have less crowds than last year.
List of places you might wanna go see/drink at
- Rose & Crown - Bob the Fish - BLVD - Ducky's Pub - Ouza - Original Joes - Towa Sushi - Mercato - Original Joes - The Garlic Glove joint - Earls
Anti Elvis recommends:
- Original Joes (many beers on tap and pool) - WyldWood - Microbrewery with good food and good beer - Joyce on 4th (pretty good pub food). plus you can sit in the harp shaped chair. - Purple Perk (best for coffee & food. My fav is the Cuban sandwich. And they have the biggest chocolate cake in the free world
To all: Enjoy, I'm leaving town in seconds & won't be home till Monday morning. I won't be there. Next year I guess. Too bad the weather sucks to much. If you're interested in tour guides...hit up BackCountryMe & PeiganJan, they're both "Missionaries"
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/24/2008 5:07:26 PM | | I've never been to this, does anyone know what else is going on tomorrow for lilacfest?? | |
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/25/2008 2:00:17 PM | Did anyone venture out for the festival? How was it?
I was going to head over that way after the World Partnership Walk today but I was too wet and cold from the walk so I opted for a hot bath and now I'm in front of the computer with my hot chocolate.
|
| Lilac festival Posted: 5/25/2008 2:19:56 PM | | I went... the weather wasn't that bad and there were lots of people out and about for the afternoon! | |
