I've lived here almost my whole life and can you believe, I've never gone to the Lilac Festival?

I thought maybe this year I'd pack kiddo up and take him, but it was too crappy out today, so I decided to just stay home and get some more painting done.

Maybe next year.

So who is up for this event this year.

Lilac Festival (Calgary)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lilac festival is an annual street festival held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It celebrates the lilac (Syringa) flowers and was first organized in 1989 by the 4th Street Business Revitalization Zone.

The festival takes place along the 13 blocks of 4th Street (between 12th Avenue South and Elbow Drive) in the Beltline and Mission neighborhoods on the last Sunday in May.[1] It lasts for one day and features entertainment stages with street dancing, as well as craft, food and entertainment stalls.

Lilac festival has been voted Calgary's best free festival in 2006.[2] In 2005 it had an estimated 120,000 attendance.[1]

* 2007 - the festival was held on May 27th.

I LOVE the Lilac Festival! It's the beginning of summer!
I've attended 9 out of the past 11 years, and I plan on going this year, (it just depends on how the birthday party the night before goes... not mine, I'm just one of the hostesses!). I hope to see lots of fishes among the 125000 other people that will be there!
just remember, bring sunscreen, especially if you'll be hanging out in the beer gardens, time seems to pass much quicker in there for some reason...

I'm a stones throw away from 4th Street and the festival is always a great time albeit very crowded. A new wine bar when in near Earls a few months back. I haven't popped in for some vino, but it has a rooftop patio.

I've not attended before so don't know alot about how it works.

Do you just mill around or as sonhos points out, pick a patio, sit back and relax? Are there planned events like bands or just food venues?

The Liliac Festival is a great time, and I will certainly be attending. There are numerous vendors there that sell miscellaneous wares, food and bands. Not sure how crowded it will be as Memorial Park is closed off for construction, and in the past they had vendors there as well.
If anyone has a chance, check it out because its well worth it.
