When she screams, you will like it! She was also in Poor Girls Blues band, where they did alot of Janis covers, but with harder music. Hard to find since they are from hamilton, but worth it.

Also there is a local band, Im pretty sure they are from london, Bloodshoteye.... My ex bf introducted me to them because he knew the singer, they are amazing!

For the record (and this is NOT a diss against Joan or Lita): Cherie Currie WAS the lead singer in that band !
Just giving credit where credit is due.

Maybe not hard rock, but MORE blues oriented.

| Female singers in hard rock/metal. Posted: 5/16/2007 4:35:13 PM | Here's one NO one has mentioned at all, which is strange since they fit the bill perfectly - Genetorturers. Solid hard-rock/metal good vocals, not too trained not too garage, been around since the early 90's - If I were to make a male comparison... Rob Zombie. Dark music that's not satanic/suicidal dark, liberally peppered with sex, but still maintaining good, hard rock. Gen does an excellent cover of Squealer by AC/DC, but other good sample tracks would be Terrorvision, Take it, and Asphyxiate - those 4 songs will give you a pretty good cross section of the flavor of music you can expect; also the era. May not be what you're looking for.. but worthy of note, especially in this thread.
p.s. Ain't no one can tell me that Barricuda, or Magic Man (Heart) isn't a solid riff, even today.

The obvious females in metal; Within Temptation, Nightwish.
Those are the ones off the top of my head. I can name you a lot who sound like women, does that count?

She was the lead singer for The Plasmatics, and after three albums she moved on to her solo career which was supported by the likes of Joey Ramone and Gene Simmons. She was the one true goddess of metal.
Moving along, there are some really great modern bands with female vocalists. Personally I am a big fan of Nightwish (melodic metal with very operatic sound) and Archenemy (metalcore....very mean). Alot of folks dislike Archenemy because the singer "tries too hard", but I really dig her style.

For the record, Flyleaf isn't metal at all.
And even though they don't have a female singer, go listen to some Darkest Hour. One of the best modern metal bands in my personal opinion.

"The act of taking my own life is not something I am doing without a lot of thought. I don't believe that people should take their own lives without deep and thoughtful reflection over a considerable period of time. I do believe strongly, however, that the right to do so is one of the most fundamental rights that anyone in a free society should have. For me much of the world makes no sense, but my feelings about what I am doing ring loud and clear to an inner ear and a place where there is no self, only calm. Love always, Wendy."
By far, one of the most powerful and beloved voices of the metal/punk movement. In the words of Gene Simmons and Joey Ramone "Wendy was the real thing."

| Female singers in hard rock/metal. Posted: 5/17/2007 3:05:05 AM | I like the vocalists in Darkwell and Battlelore, although I'm not as well-versed in either of those bands as I would like to be. Some really nice female vocals. I like them a little better than Tarja from Nightwish, who just bores me for some reason. I could never get into them.
Also, the vocalist from Guano Apes isn't too bad, either.
As far as death vocals go though, I do love Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy. Her voice kind of reminds me of Jeff Walker from Carcass, which is a bit weird.
