Female singers in hard rock/metal.Page 7 of 9    (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9)

If we're talking true metal - I have to go 100% with Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy. There is nothing warm and fuzzy about her vocals - pure power. I think the closest she's ever had to a love song was something dedicated to Satan - lol.

Angela Gossow has some power in her voice. But I still can't get over how manly she looks though. :P

happened onto this forum by accident, shows my age that I have not heard of a lot of these lady rockers, will check out Arch Enemy tho, I found Suzie Quatro and annie lennox up there with the best ....... After watching the conplete series of Rock INXS I really enloyed listening to susie mcneil found her voice was truly amazing and often wondered if she went onto bigger and better things

I don't mind Arch Enemy, but I don't quite care for the vocals as much as others. Epica is a great band with a female vocalist. Nothing harsh about it, she's incredible at what she does, and I think that's how it should be. Estuary has a female vocalist, too, but she sounds like a man. And she's tiny, so it's really deceiving to see her and hear her talk normally, then she gets up and does death vocals that you'd think were a big guy.

I like it when vocalists do what they're good at and both of those bands are pretty good to me.

Im exceedingly suspect of female vocalists in the metal realm. Not so because of thier talents but moreso the intent in which they are used. Id like to think that Angela Gassow(sp?) is not just part of some marketing scheme to cater to guys.

I hold the integrity of heavy metal near and dear to my heart and have some major disdain if I feel they(women) are being used as a sexual device to sell records, and gain larger crowds on tour. In any other setting I couldnt care less about sex as a selling point.

Metal should always = integrity of the music. Let pop rock and rap music use near naked women as thier lure if they so need be to cover up thier lack of ability to sell records and get noteriety. Let the music speak for itself.

I think my favorites are Lita Ford and Lee Aaron...I love the video of Lita Ford and Ozzy doing Close My Eyes Forever. You can actually see the video if you search for the song

Hmmm.
I'd suggest Liv Kristine from Leaves' Eyes.
She's definitely one of my top favorite female vocalists ever.

And I was never much of a fan of Tarja Turunen (from Nightwish) but their new singer Anette Olzon is definitely better.

As far as metal goes, that's all I can really think of right now.

Listen to some old Nightwish. They got a new lead singer on their latest album and she's mediocre but their old lyricist had an absolutely phenomenol voice.

Arch enemy have an awesome female vocalist. They are quite big in Europe, I don't know about the states. Nightwish with Tarja where great as well.

Someone mentioned Tarrie B on page one.. awesome voice she's got.

Low sweet to screaming vicious, amazing vocal range on that girl and she's quite cute too.

Angela Gassow of Arch Enemy, her vocals can shred many male vocalists to pieces and her menacing growls are not only insane, but wicked.
I also recommend: Wetwork, Bloodshoteye, Nightwish................give those groups a try.....and listen with the volume at 10!
