In my job it simply isn't practical to wear skirt/dress and hose, so trousers are the order of the day, however i do feel i still want to look and feel good so i opt for clothing that i feel does that....casually i'm very much a jeans and tee girl, tho in the warmer weather love pretty skirts etc....But give me a social function and out comes the girl in me and i love to really go for it, dress, heels , pretty jewelery, the whole thing.............

I have to disagree here. I think womens clothes have become more revealing and sexier. Alot of lace trimmed skirts and tops. Silky fabrics that used to be only for lingerie are now being made into pants and tops. I see alot of women who are dressed in heels and dresses. If the clothes are seductive enough then a woman will look hot. If the clothes are too revealing and tight it will only make her look like a tramp.

good for you sister. You should ware what makes you happy and allows you comfort and peace within yourself. I for one love the skirts and flowing dresses, but it doesn't stop me from checkin out the ladies as the walk away, in those slacks....

So if I see someone wearing a dress I just think "Oh, she decided to wear a dress today", just like I would go to the closet and decide to wear a green shirt instead of a blue one. But I guess it's not really like that, is it?

I must be "too linear" also, cause that's pretty much exactly how it is when I get dressed in the morning.....

Depends on the environment too - somebody else said it's too cold to wear dresses up here in the winter... that's for sure, and too cold to wear dresses to the office in the summer... no good time to wear them really, unless I am going to be somewhere where I get to control the temperature... pretty much leaves only at home... not much sense in putting on a dress to wear around the house....

40 years ago I was in jeans in junior high, but I get your point. It is fun for me to dress up once in a while, but the men should realize that it is more work and it is uncomfortable at our age to walk alot/dance in high heels. Heck, even wearing a bra is uncomfy most days, and I've always felt that way. Would men want wires digging in their chest? Or aching knees and arches from walking on posts all day? Most days it isn't worth the pain, lol.

I don't think you can compare wearing a tie to wearing stockings, but you know both can be a bit much, but worth the extra effort to look nice. I think the fashions are much more sexy now than they were years ago. Better fabrics, shapes, cuts, very fitted, all colors, textures and patterns. And you can mix and match now. There are no rules for dressing. Jean skirts with hose and high heels or boots and tee top or blouse or halter or fitted sweater. There are so many more options today and I think that is sexy. For men too!

For me it is the case that I will wear a dress as often as pants, more often actually. Wearing a skirt is not a special occasion for me, it's pretty typical. What's interesting about this thread is that I never thought much about it until now. I didn't realize I was out of the norm, that most women don't very often wear skirts, and I didn't realize how many men preferred women to wear skirts/dresses, or at least wear them more often.

^^^^^ remember we men are visually driven. So a skirt lets us see a bit of leg and makes us use our imagination about the rest of you. Not all of it is a sexual context though, but admittedly some of it is. Some of the way todays fashions hide away a woman takes away from her beauty. By the same token we dont want it all hanging out either ( well some of us anyway).

To the other poster who made the comment about wires digging into you ( wearing a bra) I understand how you feel as sometimes wearing a tie can often feel like I have put on a noose to make a fashion statement... So we are sort of even

I know the lynch mob is waiting to pounce on every word I say, but......

Women used to dress to please men, to attract men, to entice men. They cared about how they presented themselves to the other gender. Now they don't. It's all about me, me, me!

Men used to want to be attractive to women. They didn't go out in torn jeans and dirty T-shirts. They shaved every day, they combed their hair and carried a comb, so if they saw an attractive woman, they could "tidy up" Now they don't. It's me, me , me

Now, people with values and morals are laughed at and ridiculed. Self respect is now called egotism and being on a "high horse".

As Bob Dylan said, "...The Times They Are A-Changin'"

^^^Actually, I agree completely. For some people though. There are women who care about dressing nicely everyday. Whether they are dressing to entice men, I don't know, but they do care about looking good. For me, it is as much for myself as for anyone else. Though I may not dress up when I am sitting at home alone, I don't go out in public without making an effort. Not tons of make-up and such, the natural look is my forte.

Sometimes though, it does seem people have taken the concept of 'casual dressing' to extremes. Well, I'm not attracted to and don't have an interest in men who are sloppy and careless about their appearance. It's more than just a superficial thing, I think. It speaks to attitude, volumes.

Aw, that was cute - no need to get blasted. I went out with a friend and we were wearing dresses. The bouncer said he doesn't see many women these days wearing dresses and it was a welcome change. We didn't take it as offensive at all.

I am a real girlie girl and I love it and wouldn't have it any other way.... when I turn up for a date I don't just get a huge smile and compliments from the date himself but invariably from passers by too! I love stockings or hold-ups and rarely do the bare leg thing as I never sit out in the sun long enough to tan my legs... my choice and always wear high heels. I dress the same if I go shopping or pop down the country to see my mum ... it is just me and how confident it makes me feel dressed in such a feminine way. Jog pants and trainers are restricted to sporting activities and the gym!

My pet hate is when I get messages from attached men (which I hasten to add I don't welcome) and they moan that they wish their girl friend/partner wore dresses, stockings and heels....they chose their partners in the first place knowing they were jeans and trainer girls then they spend all their time either trying to change them or wishful thinking ... what's that all about?

With my job I wear Scrubs and tennis shoes, I've heard many men like that? I rarely wear dresses, hose, and heels too unfortable. Do men wear suits and ties on dates today?

I am usually over dressed when I go out...or so I have been told. Even told by my boss that I over dress for the job. I sell reptiles...LOL. Pretty bizarre for an old hippie, but when I moved to Las Vegas, four months ago...I didn't even own a pair of jeans!!

I Feel Pretty Lyrics

MARIA
I feel pretty,
Oh, so pretty,
I feel pretty and witty and bright!
And I pity
Any girl who isn't me tonight.

I feel charming,
Oh, so charming
It's alarming how charming I feel!
And so pretty
That I hardly can believe I'm real.

See the pretty girl in that mirror there:
Who can that attractive girl be?
Such a pretty face,
Such a pretty dress,
Such a pretty smile,
Such a pretty me!

I feel stunning
And entrancing,
Feel like running and dancing for joy,
For I'm loved
By a pretty wonderful boy!

I feel pretty,
Oh, so pretty
That the city should give me its key.
A committee
Should be organized to honor me.

Such a pretty face,
Such a pretty dress,
Such a pretty smile,
Such a pretty me!

OT: Truly though, it does appear that women 'dress up' -- meaning skirts/dressing, stockings, heels, etc., much less than they used to. Pants are prevalent. Jeans mostly, it seems. And 'feeling pretty' is more for special occasions---'feeling pretty' meaning feeling a certain way, not just looking good or sexy. A woman can look good and sexy in jeans....

I didn't realize how many men preferred women to wear skirts/dresses

Actually, many men prefer women skirtless

I love skirts and dresses...

And there are beautiful wool skirts and dresses that can be worn with boots in the winter.....

And beautiful flowing skirts and dresses that can be worn in the summer.

And I have no problem with pantyhose......

I like jeans, and wear them, too, but I would never put on a pair with heels and called myself "dressed up."

That's just not my way........

I will agree with one thing. Stockings. I thing they make your legs look a lot better than the bare look women are doing now. I am a women but the boney ugly legs that some of these people have really disgust me. Especially the movie stars. Stockings make your legs look smoother and softer and if your not tan it helps that too. As for dresses I don't look good in them but for those that do maybe they should try it sometime. I know men like it.
