jeans and skirts look the same when they're on the floor

Without regard to the merits of either, perhaps you should have your vision checked. Back in the "good ol' days" there were times when the skirt never made it to the floor.

Back in the day it was all about style, elegance and grace. Now it's more about comfort I think. I feel stupid if I dress up for church because few do anymore. I remember the hat and gloves I was forced to wear but it would be nice to bring those styles back.

When you get burried they don't put shoes on you. When you are in the show room at the funeral home they don't open the bottom part of the casket.Only the top. Sistermary

The problem that I seem to now come accross is that men would like to see there lady nicly dressed, hair, nails, may cup done and appreciate it with nice compliments. However guys this takes time to do. Most of the time I prepare prior so you don't know how long I do take. However if my parnter is around to see this, then they complain how long it is taking and worse telling other's when we are are out! Men you ponder as to why women now dress more casual. It takes time to get ready! If you want feminity elegant/clean ect... then shut the fluck up! You have no clue to why some women look so healthy and young.. it's becasue they care about there health and skin hair ect. Would you perfer she stops shaving everything, smelling pretty, have rough skin, age faster, just grab whatever to wear? I do this also for me, as I have respect for myself and enjoying my feminity.. so it's not about just you, and wanting or trying to get attention, but appreciation is always nice. I can wear a t-shirt and jeans low heels and be ready in 15 min, but how would this look at a formal or elegant restaruant, or be restricted to wear you can go out due to how one is dressed? This is about who I am /we are as Women.. something that is fun to beable to play dress up/down, and proud to be one! We have our regiments you have yours enough said.

Yup, and when we do all the hair, nails and makeup thingie, we are classified as "high maintenance" - when we don't we are slobs. Ya just can't win!!! Do people think maintenance on oneself is free? If they got a look at the bills the models and movie stars rack up for those kinds of things in order to look good, maybe they'd think we lesser mortals were thrifty. Did you ever see what some of those so-called "beautiful people" look like with messy hair and no makeup? You'd pass them on the street and wouldn't give them a second look.

If I'm lucky enough to have that one special lady in my life, I don't care what she wears. A woman can be just as attractive and sexy to me wearing jeans and a T-shirt as she would be wearing a dress or skirt. Her clothes don't change her kiss!

Well, I'm not so into the dresses and skirts. I wear them when I want to, but not all the time. What is the purpose of the skirts or dresses...if a good wind blows....up comes the dress! Or maybe some pervert comes behind you and yanks up your dress! I prefer to wear slacks, but I will wear a skirt and blouse when I feel I want to.

I think women are more exposed wearing a dress, and can be seen as being provocative, when she isn't even trying to be.

Why do women have to show their legs? I don't see men wearing dresses and having to shave their legs to be accepted. We women seem to have to jump through hoops to look good. All a man has to do is put on a shirt and pants.

I'm from the school that says if what you have under the clothes looks good then anything you put on your body will look good too. So I work out a lot and keep my body fit and trim.

If I'm not in the gym or working in my office (I'm self-employed), I wear very simple, tailored clothes, made by good designers. Unlike most women, I don't have a lot of clothes. In fact, when I was married, my husband's clothes took up more room in our walk-in closet than mine did.

I take very good care of my skin so I don't need make-up, it makes me break out in zits anyway. I get a very good haircut and color. This way most of my "maintenance" is spent pumping iron, or on a reformer doing pilates. The rest of it is done on walks with my boyfriend. Getting ready for a date really only takes around 15 minutes, 30 minutes if I'm washing my hair beforehand.

In the summer, really nice toned legs don't require panty hose. It takes two seconds to slip on a pair of panties, a bra and zip up a sheath dress. In the winter, if I'm not wearing slacks, I'll usually opt for opaque hose, a mini skirt and sweater.

I do empathize with women who have to shave their legs. I barely have any hair on mine. If I don't shave them you can't really see it, but I will shave them so they are smooth to the touch. That's only a 30 second job.

PS: I've never had a pervert come up behind me and try to yank up my dress. I guess things are different in Old Town Alexandria!

I don't know about the rest of you gals, but pantyhose are against my religion. I only wear them for weddings and funerals.
I have a secret plan if they ever accomplish time travel to go back and assassinate whomever initiated this fashion. LOL
They can get really expensive. They run so easily. Wonder how the guys would like to have to buy new socks every few days and special wash them to boot??

Something I forgot to mention is that I do wear skirts. I like those Indian cotton style ones. No pantyhose required.

Ok lipstick I started wearing panty hose in 1974 while working 300ft above the streets in NYC hanging steel, sure did cut the wind off my legs with the temperature in the teens, and hell no to the rest of you smarta$$ I didn't wear "heals" with them either.

lots of very good points and essays here. Everyone is right, as usual. I can relate to the nostalgia of feeling a longing for those earlier years. In my own life's memories about the only thing I can get a little nostalgic for would be the classic flowing hippie dress of the women (not the goofy atire of the men!) there was a simple elegant and colorful beauty in the sheer flowing skirt and various soft tops that the hippie girls wore.
From a time before my memory. Both, the 1920s and then the 1940s were about the most amazing dresses and outfits that the 20th century produced... as far as I am concerned. If I had to pick just one... it would be the 1940s! I used to look at the old black and white snapshots in our family collection of this absolutely stunning woman dressed in one of those two piece skirt suits of the 40s with the big amazing curled up (star trek looking) hairdo to match ... with her luscious lipstick covered lips. That couldn't be my poor old haggard mother?!!! I regret I never got to actually see her dressed up like that. She had 6 kids and lived in poverty... and it took its toll on her beauty.

I can't wear clothes that I used to when I was younger. I can't wear heels since I have had surgery on my foot. I hate wearing dresses with tennis shoes I can wear flats if I pay over $100 for them, so that is hard too, and they don't always look that good. I have a couple pair of dress boots that I can wear for a short period of time. But I believe a person can look good in whatever they are wearing if they are well-groomed and the clothes are appealing.

AgedWonder I just read an article on all the terrible problems that those "sexy" heels cause your feet. Hammer toes, terrible bunions that require surgery, deformities of the tendons in the calves. Personally I am glad I never was into to pain to look good. My feet and calves are in great shape. Heels can cause back problems too. How about you men risking all that just to look "sexy" I think I will pass. You can find pretty shoes that don't have hight heals. SHEESH

I wish I could wear a dress. I feel so akward in them. I feel as if I look funny. When I dress up, I wear dress pants. But I still feel more comfortable in jeans and shirt.

Okie I agree with that. I have a bad back, plus the foot that I had surgery on and I won't even attempt to wear a short heel let alone a high one. Why should I hinder my health to have someone say it looks sexy. I have sexy legs, that should be enough

My definition of myself in this post would be understated and humble sexuality lying under the conservative shell.

Stockings should be purchased with some thought about the length so they stay where they were intended to stay and not bunch and bag.

Other "outfits" can be chosen to be worn under an outfit and give just a hint of the sexuality underneath.

I am not prone to wearing outfits in public that show a lot of skin, other than my legs and arms.

Some might be surprised at what simmers underneath. The right person, the appropriate intimate heat in a healthy setting and ...... well.....enough said.

The only constant is change. Fads and fashions will come and go. Everyone wears what they want, usually to project the image of how they want to be perceived by others. It's interesting because each person will have a different perception. If you want to know someone you can't be judgemental about their appearance.

I was raised in west texas where all we knew were boots jeans, and western shirts. Most men and women either owned or worked for farms or ranches and it would have been hard for women to run a tractor or herd cattle in a skirt.
When we went to eat out it was the same dress except your best pair and instead of a straw western hat we put on our Stetsons and our dress boots.
I am pretty much the same way now, I don't even own a pair of tennis shoes, I have work boots and dress boots. Plus I build powerlines for a living and it is impossible to climb a pole in tennis shoes, you have to have a heel and an arch in your boot.
As for women, a pair of jeans(no necissarily tight) and a western shirt still show off the nice curves and a pair of boots , it doesn't hurt their feet when us clumbsy men accidently step on their toes as we two step or waltz across a dancefloor, plus it still puts a nice swing in the caboose as they walk away from you.
