I TiVo all I want to watch and fast-forward through those bits that don't interest me. Commercials, political ads, "breaking news" that the TV stations feel is URGENT we know.
I guess that's why so many shows now do the advertising during the show. Brand name products are now blatantly shown in most shows these days. ANd if an advertiser doesn't pay, that beer can or chip bag is facing away from view

I stopped watching cable TV over a year ago. What a relief. I also no longer read the paper or magazines. This brings me a peace and clarity I have never felt before.
The purpose of commercials is to perpetuate the capitalistic frenzy we find ourselves in when we get convinced that we need something just because they say we do...
On another note, I tried to view your profile and I couldn't find it. I read a thread about you not having any luck finding a date, and heard many folks saying how you seem to be kind and sweet, and looked pretty cute. I'd love to confirm this. ;)

IMHO...commercials are for channel surfing anyhow, unless I'm watching a channel that doesn't have commercials (like HBO, etc.) or another movie/program at the same time. | |

Horton's ads are pure schmaltz and faux nationalism, produced to sell boxcar loads of crappy food, apalling doughnuts, and lame coffee, yet Canadians suck it up like a lukewarm double/double.

1. The cat food commercial with the grown man in a litter box doing his business. Only cats can be cats. I can't even think of a word to describe how idiotic that one is.
2. Pepto Bismal is completely dismal....nausea, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach DIARRHEAAAAAA............. GAG me!
3. Newest and worst,........the CHUNK commercial ( I think it is a commercial for a radio station? but can't remember as I am too busy trying not to vomit watching the guy squeeze beyond SOUR curdled milk onto his cereal and then eating and enjoying it!) thank goodness there is no such thing as smell-o-vision.

Also, hate commercials about yeast infections.
My biggest pet peave though is a particular commercial for some stupid tv show in which a group of men are asked if they are men or "wuss"es. The word "wuss" is an obscene word taken from the words Woman and Pu^^y. I'd love to have this commercial stopped because it is degrading to women and to any man who has ever had a fear or shown emotion.  | |

Posted: 10/10/2007 2:48:03 PM | I end up keeping a CD in my car stereo so that I can listen to music at the push of a button. It's a good way to tune out the commercials. I really don't want to hear commercials when I'd much rather listen to music or Air America.
Some of them are truly obnoxious. Do we really need to hear about erectile dysfunction, periods, hemorrhoids or ads about myriads of prescription drugs? No wonder our health care costs are so out of control!! It's those dangblasted ads!! | |
