People are attracted to all sorts of different things, not just looks (e.g., wealth, emotional stability, intelligence, a person's character....the list goes on and on). | |

there are physical features which generally are deemed attractive to our species. So, the 'secret panel' that decides hotness is probably the force of evolution that caused our attraction drive.
I like you but I have to say I completely disagree with this statement. We are all handsome / pretty in our own unique) way. I was married to what I think was a "media christened" hottie ( a high fashion model ) and she was no more or no less attractive to me than anyone I have dated of any shape size or otherwise. The main criteria for me : Is she attractive/physically appealing to me? In addition, more importantly is she smart and of good character and integrity?
I do not believe a man would want to settle down with anyone he does not find attractive. It is a ridiculous notion to me that a man will go after a woman the media defines as "hot” on that basis alone ...as, well, just say that out loud a couple times...
...you will get the point...I have seen in these threads other ridiculous statements such as :"hot women don't go after 'average guys'" --This is only true if the guy is insecure - a truer statement supposing there is any validity to the "hot/not " issues is : ...."Women do not go after insecure guys" --unless they themselves are insecure.
Water seeks it's own level and that's a fact jack.
Having travelled extensively in my dating years especially, I can say this emphatically and with authority:
American women are generally the most fussy and materialistic...German women are very nurturing and in the bigger cities very cosmopolitan...in Europe I have found women to be more empathising the intellectual qualities of a man...and French women rock like a hurricane...
Southern woman (this is sounding like a Beach Boys song) are the sweetest in the world especially those from Georgia...and Canadian women are the most popular with me because I have found they have more integrity than most...
These are all general statements and of course, there are many exceptions.

Posted: 3/8/2007 2:37:47 AM | i totally disagree with what you are saying here. i think every woman whether considered 'hot' or not should be accepted for who she is and to say that all good looking women are poorly educated or emotionally crippled seems a tad ignorant... 2 say the least!!! remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder and what one person considers 'hot' mayb a total turnoff for another. unless of course you regard human beings as 'types'.....and just stick labels on them and put them in boxes.
to be honest i find your opinion extemely judgmental and slightly bitter.....but then again thats only my opinion. mayb u just haven't found the right woman yet??? | |

Because women are shallow and base everything on looks. If they were more like us guys then they would see the inside of the person and not the shell.
Oh, absolutely - all men are walking around looking for women's insides but I doubt it's in the same way you're describing, LMAO.

Does anyone truly want someone who looks at you and thinks average?? That just boggles my mind. I want someone who looks at me and thinks I'm the best. Those of you who were married before, or in long-term relationships...did you really look at the person you loved and think "average"???? How sad. I'd rather believe that just isn't true.
I think that makes you far more shallow than the person who says outright that they'll only date "hot" guys or girls. It's obvious that certain facial features are more globally appealing than others...the same in a lesser way with body types. But I believe it's a very small minority that "settle" for that alone. Ultimately, it's the entire package that make most of us think "hot" or not. And d*mned if "I" will "settle" for anyone who doesn't think I'm all that and a bag of chips. I'd like to hope that the majority of people on here feel the same way. | |

I see your point, and it has changed my mind a little after I thought about it.
First let me clear up what I meant. The 'secret panel' I was first talking about is built-in (genetic). It has only a little to do with 'media'. The media are a few people with power over what we see, and they have decided what the 'distilled' hot look is, which ends up on a fashion magazine covers or MTV videos.
People see that 'distilled' look, and are conditioned that it has a social value. This is a 'cerebral' hotness -- and I think that can be more or less attractive. The other kind of hotness I was talking about (genetic) is more animal, and you can't change it.
I remember reading that men do like curves generally on women. I think it's true. Those Victory Secret models are curvier than the high-fashioned runway models. Hip-hop videos don't show skinny women, generally. Women get implants because bigger breasts are curvy (and men like that). Men like the curves, but socially it's less acceptable to have someone who's obese, where the curves are natural.
Why are men attracted to curves? Evolutionists will say that curvy women stored fat better, had better chances of delivering healthy babies (when there were no hospitals or doctors), and so men would be more attracted to them. It's a theory to support why we have a genetic attraction.
To show how media can change what's hot, consider the curvy women who were the subjects of paintings more than two hundred years ago. They were from the small part of society that could afford to eat well, and so it was fashionable (rare?) to have curves. They had white skin because they didn't work outside. The artists decided what was hot and to paint it - we are left with the images.
Our society is backwards from then - we all eat too much, white skin is deemed bad because most people don't work outside anymore, etc. We now go to gyms and tanning beds, get plastic surgery and liposuction to look good in modern society.
So, maybe there are two dimensions to hotness:
1. Social hotness, because our partner improves our social status somehow.
2. Genetic hotness, because we evolved with the "animal" attraction.

IMHO there aren't really any hot women here. Eastern Europe, on the other hand, is a different story. The lack of really good looking girls is frustrating here. | |

I don't want to excuse my actions but this was a reaction to a comment about Europe which I considered racist. This was posted in another thread I encountered this morning. Needless to say I have been a victim of racism and that just significantly soured my day.

I do not view you “average” at all.
I do not know why you are on this site looking for a mate...
They should be banging your door down.
Tall beautiful intelligent/ confident women with curves I am attracted to –and I consider them as “hot” Others are attracted to short, / cute/ petite...
Others prefer heroin thin model types...
My point is ya just can’t make a broad designation as to what is “Hot”...there are some well known individuals the media would label as “hot” yet don’t appeal to me at all.
I do not subscribe to social norms or give a rip on what is popular...nor am I a contrarian...if something is popular and I like it fine—yet do not live my life around social norms/status quo, etc. I am a GDI –and I like that about myself!

okay sorry this is just wrong. The average HIGH FASHION MODEL has the measurements 34-24-34. Perfect .7 ratio. this is CURVIER than the average woman. The average VS model is a B cup. Breasts are NOT curves, Hip to waist ratio is curves. Hip hop videos show what men with BAD taste and low class like, i cant believe you are using that as an example! lol. Most decent guys are disgusted by video babes and their cellulitious asses. Thats like saying obese women are attractive because theres lot of obese porn out there!
Women get implants because-
1- they breastfed and their boobs sag and they feel the need to look 18 again,
2- because the media says so. Back in the 20s, big breasts were considered repulsive. Look at any greek statue and the goddesses have SMALL breasts and big stomachs and hips.
3- they feel like they can get more work (as a porn star) that way. In fact im pretty sure 99 percent of people who get implants do it because their boobs sag OR because they work in the porn industry (this includes soft porn such as maxim, fhm, and playboy). VERY FEW do it because "men like it" A lot of men are repulsed by fake men. Men with no standards of course, are accepting of it, but thats men with no standards...
Also, being obese does not mean you will have curves. in fact, statistics show that the more body fat you have, the LESS curves you have, and the MORE apple shaped (manlike) a woman becomes. Curves are waist/hip ratio. Its hard to have a small waist and wide set hips if you are obese. Very hard. Its way easier if you are thin. Hip size is determined by BONE STRUCTURE not fat. Its not something you can help by gaining or losing weight. Lindsay Lohan for example, was NEVER curvy. She always had man hips. Having big breasts doesnt make you curvy. | |

Not sure where you got those stats. Granted, if you're using hip-to-waist ratio as "curviness", it's not how I meant it. As far as I know, that ratio is not what makes a woman better equipped to survive in the wild and reproduce, and not necessarily what is attractive to the "animal" part of a man's brain. It is not what I was calling curvy.
I found a couple of web sites with Google that give a different perspective than your numbers, which seem too high to me. Here are a few weblinks, which I'm citing according to the forum rule that says they are non-spam sites supporting facts in the thread (re: hotness and curves). I'm not trying to state anything, but it's interesting.
First, from http://www.raderprograms.com/media.aspx gives an idea about changes in average size of models and normal women (but no waist sizes):
In 1950 mannequins closely resembled the average measurements of women. The average hip measurement of mannequins and women were 34 inches. By 1990 the average hip measurement was 37 inches, while the average mannequins hip measured only 31 inches.
The next one is from http://www.more2hug.com/articles/factsnfigures.htm and has some averages different from yours (a little lower):
*Contemporary fashion model's measurements: 33-23-33
*Projected measurements of a Barbie doll, if she were a full-sized human being: 36-18-33
*Average height and weight of a model: 5'9" - 110 lbs
*Average height and weight of an American woman: 5'4" - 142 lbs
The last http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/12/20/1040174392042.html is an article is from 2002 and it relates to how the shapes of centerfolds have evolved over time. It contradicts that models (centerfolds) have become curvier, according to ratio. Granted, I'll give you that a centerfold is not the same as a HIGH FASHION MODEL.
Dr Voracek, a psychologist from the University of Vienna, went to the Playboy website for details of the height, weight, bust, waist and hip measurements of every centrefold model since the magazine began.
On crunching the numbers, he discovered the women were getting both thinner and straighter, with less difference between their waist and bust or hip sizes.
"The women are more tubular and skinny. Not really anorexic, but certainly very skinny," said Dr Voracek, who specialises in the psychology of mating and how it affects human evolution. "There are no simple formulas of what is maximally attractive to men in the female body. (Attractive features) are not constant. They change over time." | |

Why, thank you! My comment about being average was in terms of my looks and I'm comfortable about it, so no worries. I definitely don't think I'm average all the way around, and I have had my door banged down a few times.
Like a lot of people here, I suspect, it's harder when you get older, move to a new place and your job doesn't surround you with available people. | |
