| Are you worried about family and friends knowing you are on this site? Posted: 5/23/2006 8:53:38 AM | Shoot naw, the folks at work know I have had more than a few internet dates. I don't broadcast my affiliation here mainly cause some of my forum posts are pretty open and, though I really have nothing to hide, they might think me crazier than they already do!

I asked him: DO YOUR FRIENDS KNOW YOU'RE ON THESE SITES? He said, "Oh no, I don't think the town of blah, blah, blah would appreciate it."
OK. Then why are you even on these sites if you're embarrassed or afraid it might ruin your reputation? My goodness.

In this day and age online "dating" or more appropriately online "meeting people to date" is commonplace. I have met some really great people here, and met my current beau here.
A majority of the single adults I know and have talked to about dating have tried some form of online dating at some time or another.
As far as I am concerned it beats meeting someone in a bar on a Friday night.

I keep them pretty much up to date on what's going on. I also know other people who have joined various sites. I wouldn't have told my mother, though - she absolutely believed the internet was the Antichrist, and she woluld have worn herself out praying for me.

My daughter knows and encourages me to send messages out.
I wish more people in my area knew about this site because it sucks that most of the people are pretty far away. There aren't many profiles within less than 25-50 mile range.

And I like to retain a degree of anonymity on the internet. It's like wearing an internet condom to me. After all, what is more anonymously impersonal than engaging on the internet?
Maybe I'll go raw and put my pic up tomorrow.

My boys know I'm online (not the specific sites). They find it worrisome, but since my fiancee died 5 years ago, and they are getting older - I've been fighting off the "it's our job to take care of you" thing...I have made headway on that! My extended family knows, and doesn't say anything (all married)...my friends of course know, don't you people tell your friends stuff like that? And my coworkers, well, those who are also single know and have been pointed in this direction by me!
Who cares? | |

They know I’m on a dating site, but no way would I tell them which one. It doesn't matter which one... Google indexes the forums too... you can find POF postings just by googling a phrase and if the phrase is in POF it displays a link to the POF posting

Posted: 10/2/2009 7:15:04 AM | | I haven't shared the link, but it's not a secret I meet all sorts of wonderful people via the internet. There's nothing in my profile or my forum posts I'd be embarrassed for someone to see. One of my coworker's mentioned once how often I seem to have lunch dates or after dinner drinks and I told her I meet men I've gotten to know here. She said, "Oh I could never do that." Too bad I guess; she's home with her dogs and I'm out meeting people and having fun.
