I will just say that charges and allegations brought against Robo cop were not proven and the infamous operation lancet(how much money!!) was a disaster................286 charges were brought against Cleveland police and many stories leaked into the public domain about their unethical practices.Some of my friends have some stories about cleveland police that are not very nice and involve bribery and intimidation practices for information
However nothing was proved against Mr Mallon and he is now the mayor of middlesbrough. They are just my personal beliefs and cannot be in any way proven to have occured.I think the town from a superficial point of view has improved. New shops and bars all along the high st but get into the grove hills,the saltersgills,pheonix church area,the percy streets,the outram streets and the union streets and you have the same dangerous place full of the same dangerous people some of which you will no doubt be very aware of.
Regardless of whether my opinions about Ray Mallon are true or not there is no doubt that people like me can be influenced by all the issues regarding cleveland police that were released into the public domain

Posted: 5/23/2006 10:28:25 AM | Only a Londoner through current rmployment, born and bred in the middlesbrough area and proud of my roots.
There are all sorts of stories anout the mallon issue; no smoke woithout fire, but a lot of sensationalism in the media regarding certain people did detract from the positive results that came out of it.
Does the end justify the means? a moot point - everyone has their own views, which is only right and peoper, but the results have spoken for themselves overall, albeit there must be more, shall we say "savoury" methods of enlisting public help than certain people are alleged to have used.
In its best light it just shows that crime can be tackled, but also shows that at no stage can you take your foot off the pedal, crime still exists

My final and fitting point is this,
Nice one captain...........we finally agree on something.........."crime still exists"!
I had a nightmare but theres plenty of folk who have had a good life down middlesbrough...........my experiences are not representative of the majority and im just an unlucky son of a ****!!

Yeah i experienced crime, i was mugged and found my house had been broken into a few weeks ago, however is a brilliant place to live only a few dodgy areas that locals know to avoid. There is Chav street in town, the place to be if you want a fight, or can go to stag/hen central for a shag. But the rest of nottingham is THE place to be for a good night out. I never felt unsafe in Nottingham, it's your connections not your location that gets you killed! Most murders in Nottingham have a motive that suggests that it was their past that got them killed not an unmotivated attack | |

Posted: 5/24/2006 10:00:18 AM | I live about 12 miles from Bradford but in a very rural spot. It's so safe here you could leave your house and car doors unlocked. But I work on the outskirts of Bradford. It's a dingy, depressing, built up, crime ridden place with a chaotic city centre. Horrible in every respect.
Leeds on the other hand has a buzz about it. A great city. | |
