You need to get yourself up to the karaoke filled bonanzas that are the Leeds, Wakefield and (secret unofficial, shh) Wakefield parties! I'd soon dig you out a tune or two.
Yeah - its sad when people think you have to sing. I dont care how well or bad anyone can sing, I love the act of singing, it lifts the spirits, and there are many tunes that can be banging even if dead flat like YMCA, 500 Miles, I Will Survive, you name it! Just being able to belt out your fave tune and be lost in the dream of being a superstar for just a few minutes - that is good karaoke.
I go to karaoke every week and have done for the last few years, whereever I have been living. So many adequate singers I have forgotton, but there have been many memorable performances, and they have been OKish at best, but awesome in many different ways.

| Karaoke Posted: 3/19/2007 1:22:10 PM | Hey, what about a PoF KARAOKE get-together? Or maybe just some of us meeting at a regianal pub to scare the locals? | |
|
| Karaoke Posted: 3/6/2008 7:45:25 AM | Well, last night I sang at karaoke for the very first time. A friend of mine was over from Belfast, we had a little to drink (well maybe a little more than a little) and she made me get up and sing.
The song of her choice was "Like a Virgin" and my singing partner was some random 22 year old male. And for those of you who I text or msn'd in my very drunken state, his name was not Colin.

| Karaoke Posted: 3/6/2008 7:53:31 AM | | Karaoke is great fun. The first time I did it was at an OU summer school, perfect opportunity because I knew I was never going to see the other people again. | |

|
| Karaoke Posted: 3/8/2008 8:23:16 AM | I'm like most of the great karaoke singers can't actually sing but get up and have a go usually after a fair few drinks!
Have ruined a few songs in my time: Paradise by dashboard light, 500 miles, few bon jovi ones. summer of 69.
Dont know if I should admit to this one but got up and sang barbie girl once in a packed pub for a laugh! Why do people make such stupid dares!?
Mr Boombastic might be next song I ruin!
|
| Karaoke Posted: 3/8/2008 8:34:08 AM | I loveeeeeeeee karaoke!
I sang Maria Carey - Hero and got 250 quid for winning the competition 2 days before Xmas so that was a bonus!
Where ever there is a karaoke I am up there and on it. Its all about having a laugh though and doesnt matter if your fab or rubbish.
|
| Karaoke Posted: 3/8/2008 8:42:25 AM | | I never did get karoake. I don't see the point of it. Is just ****ing awful | |
|
| Karaoke Posted: 3/8/2008 8:55:34 AM | Well Jimmy the cat karaoke is a japanese invention so it may well haven been invented specifically as a means for people to humiliate themselves by singing out of tune etc. and to give audiences a good laugh or to actually torture them.
They love that self-inflicted torture and humiliation over there.
Personally I like Karaoke when I get to sing but I can't stand having to be polite and listen to others whilst waiting my turn.

Steph: well done shame I don't still live in Sheff haha would been nice to here that in the Yorkshire accent

| Karaoke Posted: 3/9/2008 1:09:58 AM | Jimmy the Cat - I have to say that if you don't have a passion for music then you probably wouldnt understand what some singers get out of it.
For me it is personal enjoyment. I can sing and years ago was offered the chance to do it professionally. I couldnt take it up then as my children were small and I needed a financially secure job. So for now this is the next best thing. I enter competitions locally and have won a few and earnt some nice money but also had an amazing night out too.
I think really it is each to their own. What one person classes as a good night may not always be good for another.
|
| Karaoke Posted: 3/10/2008 4:35:10 PM | | Steph - it is the very reason I have a passion for music that I can't stand it. Get a band. Get a DJ. I want to listen to proper music. Not some drunkard sounding like a cat being hit with a hyena. | |
|
| Karaoke Posted: 3/10/2008 6:24:06 PM | | I would gladly commit murder than listen to karaoke . Other night I was passing a local and a bunch of Big girls were singing "I will survive" Christ I forgot how fast I can run . | |
|
| Karaoke Posted: 3/11/2008 4:39:57 AM | I think singing on Karaoke is more scary than singing on a stage!
In the experiences ive had (watching not singing)
If you are too good a singer-people seem laugh at you If you are a bad singer- they also seem to laugh at you
And drinking for dutch courage does not work- as in my case (singing in general and not karaoke) my mouth doesnt work and I end up sounding like whats her face on the Brits (Amy Whinehouse-she was drunk or something right??)
I have done karaoke in a bar in spain off season when it was empty apart from my ex- was drunk and sung a few random songs that the dj stuck on
Just dont choose something too fast- unless you know how to breathe properly youve had it!!
|
| Karaoke Posted: 3/11/2008 5:00:33 PM | i like a few drinks before i sing. i would'nt say i drink like a fish but after 4 pints of carling i can sing like one. | |

| Karaoke Posted: 3/12/2008 12:22:56 PM | I'm sorry guys if I repeat any of the answers [even plagiarism without ones knowledge should be a hanging offence. Just let me post on this thread and ill hang happily] But when I saw this thread I immediately headed for wardrobe dept. Then dragged my fake white diamante, Elvis in Las Vegas all in one jump suit and matching sweat scarf. A wiggle of the hips, curled my lip and looked dark and broody. Then broke into a rendition of " Jailhouse rock " [you think I'm joking ? I'm afraid not ]
I loveeeeeeee Karaoke its the best. No particular favourite for me. I love them all and just wanted to share that with the world . Long live Karaoke......!!!!!!
|
| Karaoke Posted: 3/12/2008 12:52:36 PM | | You wanna watch those Elvis jumpsuits, i bought one for 40 quid for a stag do, by the end of the night i had 35 quid of it stuck up my ar$e.....Uh huh | |
|
| Karaoke Posted: 3/12/2008 1:22:54 PM | Love Shack by the B52's is a great tune to sing when both sober and drunk ... no one can tell and it's actually a very good floor filler.
**Now heading to a new site to search for a 40 quid jumpsuit**
|
| Karaoke Posted: 7/6/2008 4:04:03 PM | For those of you who put people down for doing karaoke, or insult their singing ..even if it is bad... and you dont have the guts to get up there yourselves?? lol I sing karaoke, Its not about how good you sing, its about having fun. | |
|
| Karaoke Posted: 7/7/2008 2:44:52 AM | I would sing James Bond by Scouting for Girls dressed in a black dinner jacket type suit with revolver and martini in hand. Years ago me and my mate did 'Should i stay or should i go by the Clash ' it was towards the end of the night and a lot of drunk/typsy peeps. The place erupted with around 100 peeps dancing and jumping and singing back it was awesome 4 minutes of fame like a rock star! | |
|
| Karaoke Posted: 7/7/2008 3:00:04 AM | | Love singing Ironic and Black Velvet on Karaoke, wouldn't say I'm greatd fun. | |
|
| Karaoke Posted: 7/7/2008 3:38:59 AM |
I have never, and will never, sing karaoke.
Any of my friends who have had the misfortune to hear me 'singing' will gladly pay money to get me to NOT sing.
Tone deaf ferrets being drowned by blacksmiths in boiling treacle make a prettier sound than me singing ! I completely agree with this post (made a year-and-a-bit ago). And I will add that I really don't like listening to (and cringing about) others murdering songwriters work.
