Do you believe in angels?

I for all this time believed in Jesus, and now that I read that, that isn't logical?

Hmmmmm... I guess it isn't...I watched this show on CBC a couple of weeks ago called "The Pagan Christ". Interesting, especially since the gentleman that wrote a book of the same name was an Anglican priest and world renowned for his views on spirituality and ethics.

"There are 2.1 billion Christians on the planet – roughly one third of the entire human population. At the heart of their religion is the New Testament and the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. To Christianity, the written word is the glue that binds the faith of its followers.

So, what if it could be proven that Jesus never existed? What if there was evidence that every word of the New Testament – the cornerstone of Christianity – is based on myth and metaphor?

Based on Tom Harpur’s national bestseller, The Pagan Christ examines these very questions. During his research, Harpur discovered that the New Testament is wholly based on Egyptian mythology, that Jesus Christ never lived, and that – indeed – the text was always meant to be read allegorically. It was the founders of the Church who duped the world into taking a literal approach to the scriptures. And, according to Harpur, this was their fatal error – and the very reason Christianity is struggling today.

The mission of The Pagan Christ is not to accelerate Christianity’s slow demise, but to breath new life into its holy book and, in the process, bring the world a richer, more spiritual faith."

James, how about you start practicing what you so often preach?

sorry a bit confused there, please expand. (ie - what is it I should be doing more of?)

and if my sarcasm has offended you and made you want to do something not very nice, that must imply that I have some power over you and my words can make you do things, or you lack the ability to control your actions.

The Pagan Christ - great documentary,

I had heard of the Rosetta Stone but never knew it play suck a large roll in uncovering what the christians had been trying to bury for so long.

I have my own opinion for my own reasons and my statement of them here is not to convince anyone, or to attract criticism from the disbelievers here. It is between you and your conscience or higher power what you choose to believe and I don't care, just as I expect you to give me room to believe what I choose and you shouldn't care.

The first thing a believer should learn is that God gave us all a free-will, that means everyone has the God-given right to disbelieve in Him. I refer to the parables. It is Gods work to plant the seed. If He brings someone to ask me questions, then it is my work is to water the ground. Because of this, I do not believe in proselytizing. If the logic of my experiences could be shaken, it is the proselytizers at my door who could have shaken them.

I have a very scientific mind, but too much personal proof of the divine not to believe.

Even after several personal experiences, I still said I didn't believe, as if I totally dismissed those experiences. One day, I suddenly realized how many experiences I had had and realized I could no longer deny existence. And I don't mean things that can be easily or logically explained away. Yes, sometimes logic works to prove, not always to disprove. Everything works both ways, you cannot filter out one for the other, whether you are a believer or disbeliever. If you do, then there is no difference in one from the other. A true scientific mind sees both sides of the logic. Albert Einstein was the best example, as well as others.

I have seen angels and I wasn't halucinating. Several kinds actually...hearalding, messenger, healing, protecting, warring... If you check, there are atheists who have witnessed angels, most commonly (not exclusively), documented are during times of war. I love reading how they try to describe something they do not believe in. It is quite entertaining.

I have had truly miraculous things happen to me. Documented things, things that have caused the most staunch scientist/agnostic to believe, on several occasions, in fact.

I am not religious, but I am a believer in God/Creator. I have the same use for religion as I do politics. Someone is always making a profit from them and they do little to help the people they are supposed to exist for. Both drain the people and would suck them bone dry, if possible. Both are primarily run by power-seeking egotists. Neither uphold the standard they were created on.

I would personally prefer to see people knowing true freedom. Freedom to explore who they are and the path they are meant to be on that fulfills themselves and helps their fellow mankind, not debating the existence of God. God can handle that question on a personal level in anyone seeking the answer. I am politically conservative and religiously liberal. I will support anyones right to not believe, or believe. Why not? God does. The only thing I will speak down is proselytizing, from the believer and disbeliever alike. No one has the right to push anyone in any direction. We need thinkers, not door mats.

If you saw what you think where angles you where in fact hallucinating.

Has your brain ever shown you something that you believe not to be true?

If the answer is no, then I guess you have never had a dream.

If these things where documented then please provide links to the to the study and provide us with the reference's of these so called staunch scientists.

You know nothing of fact. If you think you do, then present them here. Not opinions and unexperienced belief, FACT. It would be quite fun to see your explanation of seeing an angel, but unlike the atheists who at least tried to explain, you would surely deny that you even saw.
You are the pushiest proselytizer I have ever seen anywhere. That makes you no different than the many who knock on doors and thump bibles in peoples faces.

Agree.

I know nothing of what you are talking about.

That is why I asked for more details.

You say these things where documented things and that it has caused the most staunch scientist/agnostic to believe, on several occasions and then can not back it up, makes me believe you are full of crazy.

But thats just my opinion.

First, exactly how do you expect me to produce documents here? Do you think they are posted on the internet? LOLOL Okayyyyyyy

Second, is that really a rule about posting in forums? If so, then you won't ever see me here again. Personally I did a topic search and that is how I got here, but I am not here to break any rules.

Happy now?

Why do you guys worry about others coming to visit in the local forums?
It isn't like they are overrun with comments from the locals.
They are very quiet lately, and I think if someone wants to pop in and add to these forums they should be welcome.

seriously i do... :)
recap back in 2007, in a church on the day i've learned of my mom's cancer (by the way she's doing fabolously now) i was crying, emotional wreck for my mom, fighting with my two ex-friends and breaking up with my first love... yeah, this guy whom I had a crush on (and) still admire, he came out of the blue and comforted me just by listening to my story... he just gave me a smile in the end... i really think he was my angel that day, he brought me hope! i'll never forget his kindness for as long as i live!

I agree with you BeeGee56...if ppl took the time to look and listen

ironic (NOT) that most of the ppl who state "non-religious" don't believe in angels...some of these ppl prob don't have faith in themselves either...to each their own tho..I know I'll be going to the mansion in the sky, nothing I did on earth here (so far lol) would keep me out!

^^^I get a kick how you like to take jabs at people and then try to qualify it with a "to each their own".
If you really believe it's "to each their own" then why the need for the negative comment?

I know I'll be going to the mansion in the sky

You're going to the International Space Station?

Maple is not Crimson. He knows that Crimson will likely be opinionated due to past experiences with the user. Maple and Crimson, like myself, have been here for quite some time enjoying the forums. Maple, myself, and many others are very familiar with what Crimson's typical behaviour was. Whether he is the same opinionated poster now as he was then remains to be seen.

On topic, I don't believe in angels, or anything else that is religious in context. I do, however, believe that there is something bigger than we mere mortals. Until someone or something proves to me what, exactly, that is, I will continue to be agnostic. Angels, by the very terminology, denotes religion, which I do not believe in.

Perhaps you have me confused with a previous user. I'm new here, but that's okay.

I saw an angel once. I was lost in the woods in the winter, thigh deep in snow with my ankle jammed between some rocks.

I thought I was going to die there and just as I started to believe that, an angel appeared over me and told me there were people nearby that would find me soon and he'd stay with me until then.

He disappeared when some strangers happened along about a half hour later and pulled me out.

It was pretty cool.
