| Best songs for strength and for mourning/pain Posted: 2/20/2008 7:10:25 AM | By far the most uplifting and motivating song in history and the piece I always depend on when it feels like the weight of the world is on my shoulders is The Oscar Meyer Weiner Song:
Oh I wish I were an Oscar Meyer Weiner That is what I'd truly like to be Cause' if I were an Oscar Meyer Weiner Everyone would be in love with me.
Doesn't that bring tears to your eyes and make you want to confront your issues head on?

| Best songs for strength and for mourning/pain Posted: 2/20/2008 9:23:01 AM | This is more of a bridging song but:
After All by Dar Williams
Go ahead, push your luck Find out how much love the world can hold Once upon a time I had control And reigned my soul in tight Well the whole truth It's like the story of a wave unfurled But I held the evil of the world So I stopped the tide Froze it up from inside And it felt like a winter machine That you go through and then You catch your breath and winter starts again And everyone else is spring bound
And when I chose to live There was no joy It's just a line I crossed It wasn't worth the pain my death would cost So I was not lost or found
And if I was to sleep I knew my family had more truth to tell And so I traveled down a whispering well To know myself through them
Growing up, my mom had a room full of books and hid away in there Her father raging down a spiral stair 'Til he found someone Most days his son And sometimes I think My father, too, was a refugee I know they tried to keep their pain from me They could not see what it was for
But now I'm sleeping fine Sometimes the truth is like a second chance I am the daughter of a great romance And they are the children of the war
Well the sun rose With so many colors, it nearly broke my heart It worked me over like a work of art And I was a part of all that
So go ahead, push your luck Say what it is you gotta say to me We will push on into that mystery And it'll push right back And there are worse things than that Cause for every price And every penance that I could think of It's better to have fallen in love Than never to have fallen at all
'Cause when you live in a world Well it gets into who you thought you'd be And now I laugh at how the world changed me I think life chose me after all

| Best songs for strength and for mourning/pain Posted: 2/21/2008 5:36:15 PM | I have found one that exemplifies completely ME:
Bruised but not broken.....Joss Stone
"Bruised But Not Broken"
Been alot that I've been through I cried a tear a time or two Baby, you know I cried some over you, yeah Had my heart kicked to the ground Love ripped me up and tore me down, baby
But that ain't enough to break me Cuz I'll rise above it And I'll pick myself up And I'll dust the pain off my heart
[CHORUS] And I'll be alright And I'll love again And the wounds will mend I'm bruised but not broken And the pain will fade I'll get back on my feet It's not the end of me My heart is still open I'm bruised but not broken
Been alot of tears stained nights I thought the tears were here for life, baby The hurt came on and held on tight, yeah Took a chance, I took a fall Love broke my heart and shattered all my dreams But I won't be down on my knees Cuz I'll rise above it And I'll pick myself up And I'll shake the rain out of my heart
[CHORUS] And I'll be alright And I'll love again And the wounds will mend I'm bruised but not broken And the pain will fade I'll get back on my feet It's not the end of me My heart is still open I'm bruised but not broken
Gonna pick my heart up Take my life back Shake the hurt away Pull myself together, put the pieces back in place I learned love's so hard Love left my soul scarred I was shattered inside
[CHORUS] And I'll be alright And I'll love again And the wounds will mend I'm bruised but not broken And the pain will fade I'll get back on my feet It's not the end of me My heart is still open I'm bruised but not broken
This has become my little anthem....it is perfect!!

| Best songs for strength and for mourning/pain Posted: 2/23/2008 9:54:53 PM | There are individual songs and then there are music styles. When it comes to coping with life in its many manifestations, there is no better tonic than the blues. It is often stereotyped but the blues encompasses all emotions and the sadder songs of loss and pain performed by a master of the form can have a cathartic effect on the listener. As one of the three kings of the blues (Albert King) once said, "if ya don't dig the blues, ya got a hole in your soul."

| Best songs for strength and for mourning/pain Posted: 2/23/2008 10:48:12 PM | well, when I am feeling beat-down romantically, Walk on By for some odd reason, comforts me, if for no other reason than to let him know the good thing he just lost. Sort of like misery loves company sung by my man Isaac Hayes If you see me walking down the street And I start to cry each time we meet Walk on by, walk on by Make believe that you don't see the tears Oh just let me grieve In private 'cause each time I see you I break down and cry Oh baby, walk on by
Mmm I just can't get over losing you So if I seem broken in two Please walk on by, walk on by Foolish pride is all that I have left So let me hide The tears and the sadness you gave me You put the hurt on You socked it to me, momma When you said goodbye So please walk on by Make believe you never see the tears I cry
So do me a favor and walk on by So I'm beggin' you to walk on by
Oh yeah Make believe you never see the tears I cry So I'm beggin' you, I'm beggin' you to walk on by Make believe you never see the tears I cry Oh, there's no dirt in my eye Oh no Smoking don't you me cry no no no (???) It's the hurt you put on me, yeah I don't want you to see this man cry So please walk on by Oh mama, mama, walk on by

(anybody feeling sad email me and I'll set you up with some old school gospel from my collection -- guaranteed to ease some of your pain)

| YOU ARE WHAT YOU ARE!!!! ENJOY IT.... Posted: 2/25/2008 6:20:35 AM | PLEASE just SKIP the first CD and make the second. Unless this just happened to you 'yesterday' don't even take any more time to MOURN or even make that first disc and instead go straight to the second, it's all you need because NO one person is worth that much time or energy if it's really ''over''. Don't wallow in it nor deliberately make yourself more miserable. Another bus always comes along in 5 minutes because the world is full of TOO many people for you to encourage yourself to feel even worse with music too! Music is supposed to make us feel BETTER.....>
Take only the GOOD memories with you from ANYTHING in life and forget the rest because that's what usually happens in the long run anyway, so skip right to that and drop the 'middleman', so to speak. Make every effort to SKIP the pain, and move on with the help of everything that's available including other people to distract yourself with and just keep BUSY.... and you'll breeze through it. YOU and only you are in control of your OWN mind and what you fill it with!...>
There's one song [among several others] that is my favorite to lift my spirits about ANYTHING in my life, NOT necessarily a relationship, [I make that the EASIEST issue, no reason not to if anyone disappoints or disenchants me, that's THEIR loss] and I have a whole CD of that one song and every rendition of it running throught it with nothing else on there, that I blast on my stereo throughout the house when feeling down.... AND also a 'tape' before that from long ago that I made too. It's the song from ""La Cage Aux Folle"", but I never thought of the song from a Gay perspective [since I'm not gay], and didn't even know what it was from when first hearing it, and I'm sure you all know the song.....>
It's ''I AM WHAT I AM'' and it's all you need to get through ANY situation in life or the simple 'blues' when anything's getting you down. I have another whole tape of a different variety of uplifting songs for that purpose for other issues in my life that hit me [not relationships particularly, but sometimes other things can be even worse, because one woman or man does NOT define your life..... you were whole without them before, and will be again.... [actually you still are but don't realize it yet] so forget that first mourning/pain CD, don't waste your time on it and go straight to making the 2nd one! Below is my favorite uplifting song. It goes far beyond 'strength'. I even looked up the lyrics for you with laptop problems that took FOREVER so hope it was worth it.....>
Anyone who's never heard it MUST hear Gloria Gaynor singing it though.... to get the full impact. It will blow you away....>
[I also do love ''It's A Wonderful World'', which someone pasted the lyrics of on the first page of this thread.... but you have to hear the music of that, because it adds to the pathos, and so does this one below. I listened to "Wonderful World'' in the Hospital and looked out at the snow every day in Central Park on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan and it got me through a stillbirth WITHOUT wallowing in that either. Ok, here's my other favorite below. You can use the words to symbolize and personify anything in your own life that pertains to you, and know you're the best you can be in ANY situation and that YOU decide your worth..... NOT someone else who may have dumped you! That's THEIR problem, not yours. That was MEANT to happen to free you to find someone ELSE who's better around the corner. It's a gift.....>
I AM WHAT I AM ... Gloria Gaynor I am what I am I am my own special creation. So come take a look, Give me the hook or the ovation. It's my world that I want to take a little pride in, My world, and it's not a place I have to hide in. Life's not worth a damn, 'Til you can say, "Hey world, I am what I am." I am what I am, I don't want praise, I don't want pity. I bang my own drum, Some think it's noise, I think it's pretty. And so what, if I love each feather and each spangle, Why not try to see things from a diff'rent angle? Your life is a sham 'til you can shout out loud I am what I am! I am what I am And what I am needs no excuses. I deal my own deck Sometimes the ace, sometimes the deuces. There's one life, and there's no return and no deposit; One life, so it's time to open up your closet. Life's not worth a damn 'til you can say, "Hey world, I am what I am!"

| Best songs for strength and for mourning/pain Posted: 2/25/2008 5:48:13 PM | "Yesterday" by Foreigner ......I thought I new you well but all this time I could never tell...how could I let u walk away,I'd give anything to have u here we me......But now I stand alone with my pride fighting back the tears I never let myself cry ..CHORUS..But that was yesterday and today life goes on,no more hiding in yesterday's worldbecause yesterday's GONE!!!Good bye yesterday it's over and done somewhere I know that deep in my heart yesterday will live on. | |

| Best songs for strength and for mourning/pain Posted: 2/25/2008 8:14:55 PM | Lullaby (Good Night My Angel) - Billy Joel
Good night my angel time to close you eyes And save these questions for another day I think I know what you've been asking me I think you know what I've been trying to say
I promised I would never leave you And you should always know Where ever you may go No matter where you are I never will be far away
Good night my angel now it's time to sleep And still so many things I want to say Remember all the songs you sang for me When we went sailing on an emerald bay
And like a boat out on the ocean I'm rocking you to sleep The water's dark and deep Inside this ancient heart You'll always be a part of me
Goodnight my angel now it's time to dream And dream how wondeful your life will be Someday your child will cry and if you sing this lullaby Then in your heart there will always be a part of me
Someday we'll all be gone But lullabies go on and on They never die, that's how you and I will be
