No one, I mean no one, tells me what to wear....or how to dress. I may ask for an opinion, but unless its asked for then be quiet as I do know how to dress appropriately for all occasions and this includes when clothing is optional.

i thought this was the SEX category...hmm.. i wouldn't want anyone telling me what to wear...i mean would you?

i suppose if you are attending a black tie event you may need to let them know that...or the beach or something...so they could pull out their blow up dinosaur and flippers..

I once suggested that a date wear something suitable for going dancing. She wore a taffeta tutu and Argyle socks. We went out anyway, conspicuously. LOL So, even well-intentioned suggestions can go awry. I no longer make suggestions unless asked.

I think it would be ok to give a heads up as to where you were going so the person could choose an appropriate attire, but NOT to ask the type of clothes to wear.

No , let the person wear what they like ,,,, if you tell them what to wear ,,, the other person will see you as bossy and controlling , not a good way to start a relationship ,,

The guy kind of sounds like Julia Roberts' husband on "Sleeping With the Enemy". OP, I think you're fortunate he showed himself before the date.

I think one should explain what you'll be wearing so that other person can dress accordingly. ;o)

Depends. Are you paying for the date and have you decided on going somewhere that lends itself to dressing a certain way? If so, then yes.

Um.. hell no..as I would be equally offended if someone who I had yet to meet would be as presumptuous as to attempt to suggest that I dress a certain way on a date....

I would assume since he is an adult and if the destination for the date is discussed beforehand (casual or upscale) ... he then has the where with all to know how to dress accordingly.....he's not my kid... he's my date...

Definitely is a red flag move indicative of a person with "control issues"...

Ahhh not really.

I sometimes drop hints that I like cologne or just in casual conversation the type of attire I like may come up but I wouldn't go as far as to say "Please wear a button down and a vest, some nice jeans and cologne please".....nope. They come however they wish...I would think a guy was forward and I would be annoyed if he tried to tell me what to wear or ask that I wear something.

IMO you don't get that privilege until after we're together or have been dating for a while and we are comfy with each other like that. THEN you can request outfits etc and I will oblige but before then I will be peeved at such a suggestion/demand.

I tell my dates what to wear all the time when picking me up.

Nothing.

It depends what the 'date' usaully wears?? Have they got awful dress sense? Does it embaress the other what their dates wears? I say this cos i have a friend who's date turned up to meet her wearing a bumbag.... My friend made her feelings clear on this and told him never to wear it when he was out with her. I have hinted to my ex partner that i REALLY thought the colour black suited him... and guess what?
It all depends on what way its been asked/told?? It could be meant in a controlling way which i wouldnt agree with, then again, could be meant in a complimentary way?? You decided?!!
