I am not sure what to say but I see dumb people all the time at work. I just assumed that they are on vacation and left their brains at home. I had not idea they were like that at home too.

Well Shole, since your profile states that you are childless, I am going to believe it....and since I am believing that, I will not go on and on about how sad it would be if you had a teenage child that came home, or perhaps was scared to come home and tell you that they were pregnant, and hmmmm maybe went to a back door butcher doc for an abortion...hmmm...or maybe they contracted HIV from having sex...I will let you decide which option would be better....

All because, you know...as the parent...your child is not having sex..or you didn't think it was time for "the talk"....

Teaching our children to respect their bodies by protecting them is not giving them a message that it is okay to have sex...but rather to love themselves and take their health into their own hands!

well, i just hate when people think they know what is better for your kid than you do. if i had a kid, i would address sexual issues. i don't need some liberal teacher telling them that sex is ok, just be careful.

let me take care of the kind of a person my kid becomes and let the school teach them math, biology, etc. no wonder americans are among the dumbest kids in the world. parents don't take time to teach them how to be good people and teachers don't teach them the basics, they spend all their time teaching personal agendas

Perhaps if you had some insight into what they teach, you wouldn't have such an objection. I can't remember any teachings where they remotely referred to premarital sex as ok. Nor did they in any way encourage sex. They managed to scare the shit out of us, and if that didn't work, we we had some disturbing images in our minds to sawy what passion was left. Just what I remember. Perhaps my view is different because I have a young lady who will be a woman someday. She'll be taught by me and her mother. Anything I'm unaware of, the school will teach. They don't teach a how to class, they teach you what to watch out for and how to be careful.

I think sex education has as much place in school as anything else.

I agree that there isn't enough focus on "the basics" in school. But when you think about it, what's more basic than procreation? IF you plan on making sure your children have all the knowledge thy need to protect themselves, then more power to you, and good on you! You're already showing more devotion than a lot of parents today. The truth is that in today's society, lots of parents won't or can't teach their kids because of reasons ranging from shyness and awkwardness to total denial that their children could be sexually active. The schools aren't teaching it to replace a parent's role, but to provide an alternative to it, and to shore it up. Does English class keep a parent from exposing their child to litterature? Do religious studies calsses stop a child from learning about their faith at home?

For the record, I had sex ed in school, and it wasn't from a teacher with any specific political afiliation (I don't think sex ed is really politically inclined, personally). We learned from a lead speaker with a local public awareness organization in my area. He was also HIV positive, because he lacked the knowledge to protect himself at the time. He didn't want any of us to wind up in that predicament.

OMG is right. Like many others I didn't laugh, my mouth hung open in disbelief however. Had I been drunk and with my friends I would have ruptured something laughing out loud for sure but that kind of ignorance is frightening...please counsel that friend not to procreate.
