My dentist told me, and I have also read, that gingivitis and other bacteria based conditions that begin in the mouth can be transmitted by kissing someone who has it. I wouldnt take my chances...unless you never kiss him...or welcome the "gift that keeps on giving."

Well, there's always gonna be something that suprises you about somebody. Can you live with it? Dang, I keep thinking about what you're thinking how great it was until that big toothy smile... dang... hahahaha.

With that in mind, you never know he might be getting them fixed next week, and then some other girl's gonna snatch 'em up, lol. Hey, you never know, do ya?

Robyn,
Is this the SAME GUY that you wrote about and have been dating for three years NOW in the thread, "Verbal and Emotional Abuse"???? AND..the one that you list in your profile as you being Single/Not Looking category???

OMG...if so??? Get out of this relationship IMMEDIATELY...or else maybe you like abuse and punishment??? I would definitely get counseling..for sure!!!

If it isn't the same guy, then my apologies, but whether it is shallow or not, I agree with most that said about bacteria and gingivitis. I couldn't do it, but that's just me.

Best of luck in your decision and, I hope you make the SMART one.

You don't know the guy very well - he may SEEM nice. but where there's smoke there's fire. His teeth may be an outward sign of hidden underlying problems. Possible drugs, poor hygiene, neglecting his health, no money to take care of his own basic needs - not so nice. Doesn't make for nice healthy relationships either. If his mouth isn't clean, what else might not be clean? One of the reasons I won't date smokers is their oral hygiene is lacking. I like to kiss - an important part of finding the chemistry with someone. I can't be with someone who's mouth I won't touch with a ten foot pole. I'm blessed with great teeth (if only my body was in such great shape) and a talented orthodontist, but that doesn't mean I haven't put a lot of moneyand care into maintaining them too. I've heard from dental hygienists before that there are men that have come in that brush their teeth only about once a month. I guess they just wait for a special occasion like a full moon?

okay i don't expect perfection but rotten teeth that look like corn niblets or like they just ate cheesies- EWWW! I can't imagine kissing anyone like that. It's one of the few things I really think about: please don't let him have yellow gross teeth. If i don't want to kiss him then i won't want to do anything else either....

ugh......I dated a guy with bad teeth but the part I couldn't handle was the resulting bad breath. UGH. I'm sensitive to bad scents, and let me tell you.....I felt like plugging my nose every time he kissed me. I thought he was an ok guy besides that and wanted to give it a chance, however his personality turned out to be uglier than his breath.

It's up to you if you want to give it a go, crooked teeth or whatnot can be kind of cute, but ROTTING? C'mon, he must realize it looks bad, but beyond that, wouldn't it hurt like hell???!!!!

If you're not using your mouth, then your'e not making love, you are having sex... That's okay for some people, but I have to have more of an experience than thtat.

Sorry but bad oral hygeine is a deal breaker for me. If your friend has known him for a long time and can speak for his character....and its negative. That's 2 strikes against him already.
I would tell him that you think he's a very nice guy, but your just not interested.

And I don't really understand why so many people think the OP is shallow or whatnot. Goodness me this is a dating site. If everyone liked or disliked the same attributes about everyone else we'd be in trouble. Everyone has preferences. And yes, a lot of people cannot afford expensive dental work or have a genetic condition or illness that causes tooth/gum decay or disease. But does that mean she should be obligated to date someone just to show how NOT shallow she is? C'mon! I'm sure some guys wouldn't want to date me because I'm not skinny, or I don't have brown eyes, or I'm too tall for their liking, etc. I may be nice and all, but it's just the attraction quotient.

Plus, she hasn't been dating the guy, she just met him, so it's hardly 'dumping him' over this or whatnot. As for 'teeth can be fixed' - well, sure they can. But what is she supposed to do, whip out some brochures and discuss financing with him on their first date? How well do you suppose that would go over on the guy?

Personally, I just can't tolerate bad breath. If that makes me shallow, that's fine. All the better for the other person not to date me, right? Who knows, they might not like how my nose is shaped.

I'd be more concerned with asking her friend why she would say to avoid him. Is it something based on an incident she knows of, or just a dislike?

Most of you are so clueless it's rather scary!

I have a friend that grew up in the mountains, the water up there was full of iron, and a few other mineral that eat away the teeth.

He has to be one of the cleanest people I have ever met in my life. He takes healthy to a whole new level.

I would bet a million fishy points that given an hour of conversation with this guy and you would be head over heals mad crazy and willing to lick his teeth!

Hell there are times that he has enlightened me about something and I want to kiss him!

Stay all prettied up! Ever see the effects of a hard bout of cancer and what it does to the body and superficial looks? Think about it!

Maybe we should first define "bad teeth"? It seems to be subjective. Just a thought.

I have finally, after 3 years, met someone much like myself...in many ways...but he does not care for his teeth; or not very well.

I am dentally challenged and therefore see a dentist every three months. My teeth appreciate it and so does my smile.

I am wondering how to approach this man if we get to another level. He is terrific and fit ,otherwise.

My email on POF is not blocked, no limitations, feel free to write suggestions.

THANKS!

I think that so many peoples opinions are just a sad reminder of how plastic and shallow our society has become. Perfect teeth, perfect bodies and so on and so on. It all just becomes so overwhelming especially when you don't have the finances to keep up with it all....yes eventually all of our teeth will fall out and hair get thinner bodies become less firm but hopefully we become wiser and hopefully our hearts continue to grow. My advice to you Broken Wing is follow your heart as I think you already have.

blumajik I don't think it's a matter of having "perfect" teeth. I don't need someone to look like Brad Pitt and have his sparklers in order to date them. However I do believe that what the OP is saying is she found brown teeth hard to get her head around.

I mean when you date someone you do eventually hope to kiss them right? I personally loved David Bowie's uneven weird vampiry kind of teeth years ago (I thought they were sexy) so I don't think they need to be perfect and straight, just clean looking preferably.

Someone's mouth is actually more imporant to me than their physique. I'm not rich and have gone to great lengths to keep my teeth and mouth nice. I really don't want to kiss a guy that doesn't care about his. What I spent on orthodontics could have bought me some liposuction instead. Priorities - we all have our "buttons".

I know that the quickest way to turn me off is for someone to smile and have yellow rotten teeth...my tongue literally will crawl back down my throat...I think when someone lets their teeth go it is the same as showing up with body odor...or worse.

Crest premium whitestrips...they work wonders! My kids and I all use them and it makes the biggest difference.

LMAO ~ I don't care how clean he is, how funny he is, or if he's Einstein's intellectual equal, if his teeth haven't seen a dentist for far too long, I'm not licking his ear, let alone his teeth.

~OT~ I have a teeth obsession, it's just that simple.

I say brown rotting teeth suggests he doesn't brush, which is gross. Another thing does he chew tobacco? That is a gross habit as they spit everywhere and there breath stinks. They constantly have chew in their mouth gross!! I'd run.

Yes fixing teeth is expensive but he could always get it financed I have to get braces for my daughter and yes they will be financed. I'll be paying for them until she's grown. But hey she'll have a beautiful smile.

Personally, I can't go out with someone with rotting teeth. I couldn't kiss the person. I don't expect perfection, but oral hygiene is important. He may have a medical problem, but surely he realizes that his teeth are rotting and is trying to do something about it.

Having bad teeth is a dealbreaker for me.
