Stay away from bad teeth. Kissing can transmit any gum disease he has. I would bet he has some ick you don't want. Listen to your friend. Two red flags means zero dates.

missing teeth and chipped teeth are difficult to look at...even when the heart is good. I would be happy to pay for proper dentistry but I dont want to offend.

Perfection is NOT what I seek.

Here is what bothers me: this man would NEVER have taken me out if my teeth were in the condition his are in. He wanted attractive and wanted more perfection than I want. He made THAT very CLEAR.....simply put he was not looking only for a good heart...which i have.

Some of the mail sent to me about this has been very helpful. THANKS.
My POF mail is open and not blocked so anyone with more suggestions, write me.

what my friend said about how i should stay away from him makes me iffy anyways - shes known him her entire life and told me to stay away from him because he is bad news -- that obviously means he has bad teeth AND a crappy personality right?! - RobynGoddess

That depends on several things. It depends on her reason for telling you #1. If you believe she is just trying to be a good friend to you, then
maybe yes. If he dumped her & shes being a jealous b*tch, then no. If you know she lies a lot, then no. If you & she have very different taste
in men, then no, because what's "bad news" from her point of view, might not be accurate to you.

! poor guy - his grill sounds jacked up..Does he live in the woods and play the banjo with his toes?
There are some things you may be willing to overlook and piano teeth may not be one of them
Listen to yourself tho and not your friend.. she may have an ax to grind against this
guy...

meanwhile you may try sending him a singing telegram chanting:
* the dentist is your friend*

NEVER! Anyone who doesn't take care of their teeth (basic hygiene) is really not worth dating. I don't care how NICE he is - who cares! There are loads of nice guys out there and they do NOT have rotten teeth!

You are better than that. Move on. Just because he 'seemed' nice after one meeting does not a winner make. Nice guys are a dime a dozen. Men who can't even take care of their teeth probably can't take care of much else.

I agree to all who said to run away! We aren't all born with perfect teeth, but that's why there are dentists, periodontists, orthodontists... you get the picture. There's no excuse in my opinion!

Nice teeth are on my top 3 list of must haves. They don't have to be perfect but they need to be white and relatively straight. Total deal breaker for me. However you have to decide what the deal breakers are for yourself!

Bad teeth, that's a tough one.....Some plaque and gingivitis? Mold and other biological inhabitants. That's something a dentist can fix.
A real concern would be if it looked like a grenade went off in his mouth. Now that kind of required reconstructive dental work is grounds for running like

I'm going to say this
coming from both sides.
About 7 years ago i
would never date anyone
with bad teeth. Then i got
into smoking meth. My
teeth got bad due to a
combination of meth and
wisdom teeth impacting
the rest. I got off of it
mothers day of 04. I deal
with my teeth being
eaten and broken away.
I've been in the process
of fixing them. Now i
know what the women
that were great in looks
and personality went
through when i turned
then down. I get rejected
constantly for my teeth.
A GREAT MAJORITY of
'women' turn tail right
when i start talking. They
don't even take the
chance to get to know
what a great person i am.
Luckily i've met 3
females from here even
after they read my profile.
2 would like to meet
again. Unfortunately i am
moving so i can't. I say
talk to him. Get to know
him. If he is doing drugs
don't hook up. If it's
genetic go for it. Teeth
are fixable. If you can't
look past a fixable flaw
then you don't deserve a
man that is so nice. 90
percent of people that
have obvious flaws like
that are the best people
you will ever know. Trust
me on that. I've been on
both sides of the line. I
would much rather know
my friends with flaws
than without. Flaws =
large heart. Flawless =
conceited, stuck up, vain,
self absorbed, whatever
you want to call it. If you
decide not to simply
because of his teeth
don't lie to him. Tell him
that is the reason. He's a
very nice guy from what
you're saying so if
deserves the truth. Best
of luck.

I don't know about this one.

I had acid reflux for a long time, due to a bad gall bladder (out now, yay!) The acid decalcified many of my teeth, including the ones at the front. This caused them to rot and get black.

I got a job with really good dental benefits and had them fixed. So I have nice front teeth now. But I'm still the same person that I was then.

Could be that he's a meth user. Meth users teeth usually rot out.

I wouldn't date a guy who had nasty teeth. I wouldn't be able to kiss him. Plus the bacteria is so bad, he would pass it on, unless some dentist can say otherwise, I am sure it can be transferred over to you. Yuck.

I know this thread is from way back...but here is the advice: break it off gently (the relationship, not a tooth ) and move on. There isn't any reason for an employed person with dental insurance, in this day and age, to have bad teeth. Even the worst oral conditions can be fixed quickly and inexpensively-----chipped teeth, plaque, cavities, buck teeth, missing teeth, gum disease, etc., can all be fixed or greatly improved through professional, oral care.

Noticeably bad teeth are a sign of a larger pattern of self-neglect---it's only downhill from there.

There's a girl I know who had a beautiful set of teeth and a wonderful smile. Then, she had an accident and got her upper-left incisor knocked out, so there is a gap there now. Instead of getting it FIXED, the poor girl walks around afraid to smile or open her mouth wide for fear of people noticing the gap. She now "smiles" with these ridiculous closed-mouth grimaces.

Makes no sense, when these things are easily fixed!

it's a funny thing about teeth...........your either into a dynamite smile or your not. I have a beautiful smile but as you age your teeth become dingy.....even with meticulous dental hygiene......just ask Oprah!...it's the number one factor in aging a person. Everyone is right about the drug use however, Some people just have sh*t teeth. Also, with the media influence or hollywood smile factor we all have unrealistic expectations regarding white teeth. Just this year "I have put my money where my mouth is" and have started with veneers.....how anyone can afford more than 4 at a time without taking out a mortgage is beyond me. As, I mentioned I have a beautiful smile but the cosmetic effect of the first 4 was amazing and has left me really excited to get the next/another 4 done next year. No one has even noticed the difference in my appearance .....but I do.....I'm a teeth noticer.....it's the only cosmetic thing I've ever done or ever plan to do....it's like a personal investment in me. I'll take my $10,000.00 smile over a boob job anyday. Appearance is superficial.....and when you really like someone.....looks or teeth don't matter....their inner beauty speaks to you alone.

Cosmetic surgery is cosmetic surgery. Unless you got the shit kicked in, and your teeth are gone, paying money to have perfect teeth is a waste of an investment. It does not help improve your insecurities for longer than a month in which you find another thing wrong with you that needs to be replaced. I feel bad for a man/woman who has been involved in a severe accident where the body is badly damaged or burned more than 30% with 3rd degree wounds, and then some wanker comes along, and says "Gee, my nose is just not perky enough, better go get rhinoplasty cause maybe then someone will notice me."

If you cannot be happy with yourself, then you never will be happy. Actually taking care of your body and teeth is the only way to take care of yourself. People are always being noticed, they just don't notice it.

In the great words of Thomas Harris's character Hannibal Lechter:

"What do we do, Clarice? We covet, and what do we covet, Clarice? Things we see every day." Hannibal Lechter to Clarice Starling of The Silence of The Lambs

Dental and periodontal maintenance is not merely a cosmetic issue (although it is that as well). Teeth that are not well-maintained create a host of other problems (such as improper nutrition). Gums which are not maintained harbor bacteria which, if left unchecked, can spread to the pericardium and other cardiac tissues. Also, as someone stated earlier, certain strains of bacteria can also easily be spread to kissing partners.

So, this isn't a "Just be happy with yourself---beauty is only skin-deep" kind of issue. People need to take care of their teeth and oral health as part of overall health maintenance. It's also unwise to date anyone who has atrociously bad teeth, because they are bound to have other health issues as well.

I would rather date a girl with a nice body with rotten or no teeth then a woman that is obese with great teeth......Its not always a "doesn't brush there teeth issue".....If you just have bad genes in that area.....If this guy was neglected when he was very young and his parents didn't make him brush his teeth.....If the teeth are as bad as you say then thats what it sounds like I've known lil kids that every tooth in there mouth had a filling, cavity and once you let it get that bad theres no hope in ever having a great smile unless you have alot of money for implants,crowns....What I would say is DON'T listen to your friend and get to know him yourself don't worry about what your friends think.Don't be afraid to talk to him about it.
