I always used to think that it would be really cool to live in a Roman villa... so I would probably do that. Either buy a real one in Italy, or build a new one here instead. (not many grapes in Ohio though!)

Was going to start a thread on this...did a search...so thought I would join in the fun!

I was going to ask, aside from sh*tting your pants, what would be your very first purchase...your first splurge? LOL

So...if I won the lottery (which I don't even play!!) LOL I would:

Buy each of my children a new vehicle...nothing outrageous...but NEW and PAID FOR.

Buy a LARGE chunk of property with a lake in the middle...build a smaller home for each child, and have mine waaaay at the top of this property! LOL (Keep them close, but not tooo close!)

Go on a family cruise/vacation.

Give all of my friends an elaborate gift...or something like a smaller chunk of cash to do with as they please. (Would not be tremendous...after all...I would see who my real friends were when I bestowed them with something like...$5000 each?) LOL

Give 10% to a church or religious organization of my choice.

INVEST the rest in a sound investment!

First thing I would do is change my phone # to an unlisted one...I could imagine all the "well-wishers"(Read $$$$) that would be calling!

Secondly..besides paying off any debts....I'd repay my ex all the child support he's given me over the years..I owe him that.

Invest,invest,invest.....real estate,GIC's etc.....with a goodly sum in trust to both of my kids.
And...put a ton of money in my kid's resp's..so they can get the best education possible.

Splurging on the people I care about is a given....so is a new car, house etc...

Then...shop,travel....shop,travel....shop,travel.....

Because...even when the plant he worked at shut down ,and he was unemployed for awhile...he still payed it promptly...hell...he was very sick at one point, and hospitalized and the child support was still there.
That helped me through some rough times.
I know it was his responsibility to pay it...but it would be my way of saying thank you.

I'd move to Canada and meet one of the wonderful and beautiful women there and live happily ever after.

This was just a fantasy question right?

I would make a lots of trailer pads with fenced in yards, and I would build storage sheds. I would build them in the country to get low income familys out of the towns, so the kids aren't raised up being able to run around lose in the towns. I would put a park in the middle of the them. Maybe even a nice daycare, for low income families, so maybe they can have money to buy their own homes. Maybe buy land and sell lots have a well put on them and elect, and septic tank. Double the price in it when its sold.

Well I always said the first thing I would do if I won big big money is go to the bank and count every single bill. Maybe roll in it for awhile LOL

I'd pay off my house, buy a new vehicle, help out family and friends, and invest.

Would like to buy a farm, raise some horses, and also be a rescue ranch for unwanted pets. I'd hire a couple of kids to help run the place.

Everyone in my family would get a house (or pay off existing mortgages) and a new car. Each of my girls would get a pre-paid Ivy League education. The majority of the remainder would go to well chosen charities because I don't want all the hassles that come with having all that money available.

I'd still work everyday. I have a tendency to get lazy unless I'm pushed.

If I wont the lottery I would not go get the money immediately. I would first get an attorney, go to a trust department and hire a CPA. There are technicalities of winning a lottery, ie, estate taxes in case of your death. I would want all these things taken care of before I collect my winnings instead of buying everything I could. Once that is set up, maybe living off the interest and helping loved ones and family members would be a priority.

could you IMAGINE the good that you could do for your local community with that kind of coin?

I would probably start a few non profits or endow some, and the Land that would be preserved from development, mmmmmmm, Just imagining it makes me happy

I could see a Boys and Girls Club, and a lot of acid mine drainage clean up too.

In Canada, lottery winnings are tax free - if you invest you only pay taxes on the interest earned.

If I won, I'd change my number, call one of the lawyers I work with to accompany me to the lottery office, e-mail my financial advisor to start setting up trusts, head down to get the money then take the check to the bank and deposit the money.

After I talked to my financial advisor, I'd buy my 2 sons a house, setup a trust for them using 80% of the winnings and invest the rest.

Split 50/50.
First 50% goes to charities like the SPCA, Humane Society, Paws With a Cause, Habitat for Humanity, UNICEF & abused children's homes.
Other 50% gets split again, leaving 25% to divide between family and friends and 25% for the Happy S. First thing - PAY OFF THE HOUSE. How cool would that be!?!?! Second, buy two neighbors' houses, give all salvagables to Habitat and tear the rest down. Add first lot to my yard and build a huge, fabulously cool swimming pool with lots of fountains and water falls. On the other lot, build and staff "Dog Nirvana" as a place to care for "less fortunate" (for whatever resason except extremely aggressive) dogs without homes; tons of pillows and toys and dog houses and furniture for them to sleep on, medical care, a big yard with lots of trees to run and play in, maybe another swimming pool. Add the extra room for office/exercise room. Pay someone to clean my house every week. Find the white '92 Acura Integra with the fewest miles, buy it and have it completely reconditioned to just like new. Maybe paint it fuscia... probably not but it's fun to think about. Invest the rest. Quit work and spend my days doing whatever I want; stuff like gardening, hanging with buds, playing with all the dogs, vacationing on the beach and at ski resorts, working out and just having fun!
Gotta run................ and buy a lottery ticket.

Lets see, I would buy a new house for myself, my mom, each of my sisters, and my kids grandparents. Then go buy a new car for everyone and give each about 1 million dollars (assuming i won the $340 million powerball)

Geez, let me win!!!!! LOL

Our lottery is now over $100-million. I could never spend that much, so would give most of it away. There are many soup kitchens in the city that could and should expand. Ditto for some of the flop-houses. A good, working, long term residential substance program is needed, too. And I would like to see some of the local churches start some fun Teen Clubs like there were when I grew up.

There are two very promising cancer treatments researchers are trying to get funding for but are having problems because there is nothing to patent in these treatments. Therefore, I would drive over to the university where my old research partner is now a professor and take care of a large chunk of that necessary funding immediately.

Then, I have a very, very large family. So, after sending them all the max IRS allows as a gift, I would set up a foundation that would pay all education for all of children in the family perpetually. And, because there would still be plenty of money left over, insure they all received the max “gift” the IRS allows every year.

That still leaves a large pile of money for me to spend, so I guess I would play Santa for many of the soup kitchens and other worthy groups at least once a year.

Sure, I’ll get a nicer car, better home, newer computers, etc., but there is more to life than just those things. Besides, there is only so much of that stuff I can use.

To me, money is just a tool. With that much money properly invested, even the interest is too much to spend. LOL

I wouldn't be on this website any longer that's for sure! j/k, as boring as I am I would probably still come here and tell everyone and watch them all laugh b/c they don't believe me. That being said, I don't really even know what I would do with that much money. Probably give a lot of it away, get a car that runs, and continue on with school. I wish I did have that money b/c I know exactly who I would gladly give a large portion to. And we'd all be happy!
