Beaugrand, thanks alot!! You should be working to make those cars in the USA!!!! I would not buy your cars in a million years because your idea takes away jobs from Americans who need them the most these days!!!!

I'd love to make them here. My target price for the 2-seat commuter is $8,000, that means I have to deliver them to dealers for $6,000 or less, and keep my parts and labor costs under about $2,000. Easy to do in China, impossible here, and I don't think they would sell for the price I would have to charge for building them here. Same for the sedan and SUV, too expensive to make here.

But I think Americans would buy a 100 mpg SUV if it was made by Martians.

Oh yes, I would also have to get myself a van der Brink Carver.

if I won the lottery, I would move to the netherlands before the feds had a chance to steal from me.

The IRS will be waiting for you when you pick up your check- Uncle Sugar gets his cut off the top.
Anyway, with that much loot you're in G Dubya's "circle of friends" category, where the cap gains were reduced to give the rich a break.

The best thing about winning would be never having to eat those stupid packages of noodles again.......those 4 for a $1.00 things! It would be shrimp and lobster and steak everyday!!!!

Think you won't get sick of eating shrimp, lobster and steak everyday???

if I won the lottery, I would move to the netherlands before the feds had a chance to steal from me.

the capital gains tax isn't a tax on the rich, it destroys the middle class and the poor. it keeps people middle class and poor. it's a tax on investments. it's insane.

p.s. DW, it wouldn't surprise me if you drove a toyota and shopped at wal mart. not that there's anything wrong with that. I drive a nissan, and I have shopped at wal mart.

the capital gains tax isn't a tax on the rich, it destroys the middle class and the poor. it keeps people middle class and poor. it's a tax on investments. it's insane.

Actually, in 2003 G Dubya reduced the cap gains tax to 15%:

In the United States, individuals and corporations pay income tax on the net total of all their capital gains just as they do on other sorts of income. The amount an investor is taxed depends on both his or her tax bracket, and the amount of time the investment was held before being sold. Short-term capital gains are taxed at the investor's ordinary income tax rate, and are defined as investments held for a year or less before being sold. Long-term capital gains, which apply to assets held for more than one year, are taxed at a lower rate than short-term gains.
In 2003, this rate was reduced to 15%, and to 5% for individuals in the lowest two income tax brackets.
These reduced tax rates were passed with a sunset provision and are effective through 2011; if they are not extended before that time, they will expire and revert to the rates in effect before 2003, which were generally 20%.

And again in 2006, G Dubya remembered his friends:

The reduced 15% tax rate on eligible dividends and capital gains, previously scheduled to expire in 2008, was extended through 2010 as a result of the Tax Reconciliation Act signed into law by President George W. Bush on May 17, 2006. As a result:

* In 2008, 2009, and 2010, the tax rate on eligible dividends and long term capital gains is 0% for those in the 10% and 15% income tax brackets.

* After 2010, dividends will be taxed at the taxpayer's ordinary income tax rate, regardless of his or her tax bracket.

* After 2010, the long-term capital gains tax rate will be 20% (10% for taxpayers in the 15% tax bracket).

* After 2010, the qualified five-year 18% capital gains rate (8% for taxpayers in the 15% tax bracket) will be reinstated.

I favor the FairTax (Federal sales tax on everything) concept with the "prebate" provision (bought the book). Tax spending, not income.

I hope you're not talking about the ships used by cruise lines. Them suckers cost about $500 million. Even if you won the PowerBall lottery (with half going to Uncle Sam), you won't have enough left over to buy that cruise ship.

I guess it would depend on how much I won. Anything over a couple of million dollars would be just too much. I'd have to invest it or something.

I'd start by having a party, obviously. Then paying off any dept in the family. Then Pay for a trip to Australia to visit my uncle, for all of us. Give each of my family members a couple of thousand dollars just because. Maybe a nicer home for my granny.
Then my dream comes true. Find a cottage somewhere and begin writing full time.
Of course I'd have to get all the toys to go with the cottage. Boat, car, snowmobile, and a great computer system. Drooling already. LOL! :)
If there was enough left over start helping out my friends with their dept. Probably even if there wasn't enough.
Maybe start a variety store near my cottage for some handy junk food of course. LOL!

Later all!

I NEVER shop at Wal Mart and NEVER will. I have found great alternatives to Wal Mart that don't violate my values, including Costco and Family Dollar. Both stores are good to their workers, and do what they can to carry US made goods.

I still strongly believe that anyone who outsources jobs that should be done by Americans are traitors to this good nation. There are too many Americans out of work thanks to allowing outsourcing to run amok. I am disgusted that anyone would promote or encourage this nasty form of treason. Besides, China is a Communist nation that denies people human rights. Tibet should be let go so that they can be free! Not only is outsourcing a form of treason, outsourcing to China is a slap in the face to freedom and democracy! We should be making products here, and buying imports from democratic nations--including Japan--Toyota makes cars here in the USA too, and they put Americans to work! That's better than outsourcing to China--and Japan is a free country. It's better to support Americans and people of free countries than to aid and abet the stripping of people's human rights and freedom!

Back to the subject, if I won the lottery I would open a couple of print shops and put AMERICANS to work, and give them UNION jobs. The working man and woman needs friends of labor more now than ever. I will never forget my roots in the working class, and do what I can to put some fellow Americans to work. China would never see a second of labor from me!!! I hope that I can do this so that some working families can prosper.

Firstly I'd set up my (immediate) family or any other family that needed anything. Then mainly it would be property purchases I would think ....especially now with the housing market down, prices are lower, etc. A couple personal "extravagances" for myself might include a large (and I mean large ) loft in downtown Chicago, as well as an exotic car of some sort I guess (might as well), and (depending on how big a lottery win we are talking about here) a villa in Capri perhaps..... live there most of the time probably.

If I won the lottery I would give every penny to Oxfam and other charities to help them save lives around the world.

Can't think of anything else I would want other than to find love again.

Welp, OP since money doesn't mean a hill' a beans to me I would make several calls.

One call to my family letting them know they would never have to worry about money again.

Several calls to my friends that have been with me through thick and thin without fail letting them know they would never have to worry about money again.

One call to my boss. He's wealthy and has taken such good care of me knowing that I work hard for him. He's presently involved in three lawsuits and lost a lot of money because he loaned huge amounts to a few people in good faith thinking they would repay him in kind. They didn't. I would make sure he was repaid with interest.

If there was anything left, I would buy a jet ski and a 10' cat perch with 6 levels for my cats. If the pot was dry at that point, then oh well. No worries. I've always had everthing I've ever needed in order to be happy, and not one of them ever came with a price tag.

I would do quite a bit if I hit for a lot. I would buy my dream home in Tennesee, or the Carolinas, somewhere where theres not a lot of snow. I would put some away for my Son fdor when he gets older. I have always dreamed of helping my friend who has it rough, I would pay off her house, and give her a new car for her and her kids, give grocery gift cards for a year to my other friend who is a mom of 4. I would help my family, and friends. Then I would take a lonnnnnnnng much needed vaca to Mexico for a month. Then travel all over the US to see Phil Vassar (country singer) and meet all the fans I have talked to for the past 5 years and go to shows in all the other states I havent been to. I would also give some to our local animal rescue shelter to help them with supplies and homes for over 300pets on a daily basis. (AngelsForAnimals.org) No way would this girl be bored....I would have too much world to conquer ! Wen

I'd buy a mansion and convert it into an armoury.

It'd have its own gunsmiths and its own blacksmiths.

A room for rifles, a room for handguns, a room for light machine guns, a room for shotguns, a room for armour (plate, kevlar, dragon scale, chainmaille, all types.), a room for axes, a room for swords, a room for daggers and knives, a room for polearms, a room for shields, you get the idea.

Buy a small house on about 15 acres. (I have reasons for wanting that much, but I shall keep them to myself for fear of sounding like a redneck lol)
Buy my dream vehicle.
Build my parents a house, and pay off my grandma's bills.
Then, travel. I want memories, not stuff.

Several ways to go with this:
Depends on the size of the pot, but I'd probably go for the annuity payments anyway, if for no other reason than it makes me worth more alive to dead.
Also, I'd hate to be one of those former lottery winners who ends up broke in a few years.
Oh, yes, in that regard, being worth more alive than dead, I'd leave the bulk of my estate to my cat.
So, first thing?
I'd have to buy a cat.

First thing I would do is drive to the local college...find the worst old crappy beater car I could find in the parking lot and wait until the kid showed up. Then hand him the keys to a brand new car, pay for tag and taxes and insurance for the next 4 years. Now, that would be FUN!

So, just how young does this "kid" have to be? And does he have to be a student?

Just asking...
