Good luck to ya. It seems as tho the Great lakes as far as work goes is getting dry, thanks to our government and over seas outsourcing. Even new construction on housing has slowed down. Automotive has changed due to letting foreign companies camp in our back yard. Price of gas and oil has tampered our life stile. I'm sure you will find some thing but not as good as you will like. As far as Jackson goes, I couldn't' tell ya. It's rough all over.

Not sure if you are going to find a job. But I am sure you will find something and housing is almost rock bottom ........... so I am sure you will something. Not from that area. Asked an online friend for you who lives in Jackson. He said Jackson has a lot of Japanese Industial Plants .. TAC and MACI ........ good luck and welcome to Michigan.

I live in jacktown, jacktucky, jackson, I like it! I plan on staying. I think the nuge has moved to texas? It is depressed as far as economics is cocerned, a lot of deals, in real estate. but the realtors themselves are down as much as 75 per cent from last year. There are a lot of good people here, of course there are penty of the other kind also. well contentment is from within your self! And needing to be someplace else is noncontent?

There's a couple things to think about before you move to Michigan.

Right now a lot of people here have already told you "your nuts" "run while you still can"

Realize that Michigan's economy is totally intertwined with Ford, GM, Chrysler. When those companies go in the toilet so does the rest of the state. Thats why right now finding a job in Michgan is brutal because of some 100,000 lay-offs and buy-outs. Worse still is that there's more to come.

Now being you do custom cars and bikes you can probably find shops like that just about anywhere. Now I cant and wont bad-mouth Jackson or the west side of the state because I dont live there. I live on the east side. You might want to look into Ann Arbor and some of the surburban areas in Oakland and Livingston counties. A lot of big money so called "affluent" areas where people have the money for expensive toys...AND NOO Im not saying the west side or jackson doesnt have that. If you have to move to Michigan...do your research and dont hesitate to talk to someone here...if you can wait...please do...at least until the governor election is over with and we get an idea of whose runnin the show and which way michigan is headed.

Aside from the job market...you'll love michigan. Beautiful scenery all around, plenty of lakes anywhere you look...including the great lakes themselves, good food, 4 major sports teams, and no lack of night life or entertainment. Good Luck man.

Yep, still looking. And as I have always said, being this far away makes it even harder. Let alone, when I say I'm from out of state, that really doesn't help the MI economy. Kinda like outsourcing. If they can find someone there to do the same job that I apply for, I'm sure they get dibs before me.

Man, you couldn't pick a worse state for making a living. If money is needed or important to you, cancel the move.

I came here to go to school and because I thought what a dream state, lots of water and open spaces, not to overcrowded, they understand hunters. I did a year of research so there would be no surprises. I got here and not one answer I got from the state, or in any of my research, or from the long time residents I had talked to in chats, was true. I had nothing but surprises and poverty and I am a person who has never had poverty or lack of a job.

If you have family here with long time roots and connections, you should be okay, as long as they are willing to share. If you are basically coming without that, I can tell you from experience and from the experience of others like me, you are dead, unless you marry a girl with lots of connections.

People here are very tight in their own clans and do not share with strangers. I will never be accepted here as a whole, by a few individuals maybe, but not by community. I will always be held back. I have a lot of top quality experience, which actually prevented me from getting a job. I actually had to start lying and say I had no experience just to get a low level job. My application went directly to the trash can right in front of my eyes on MANY occasions, as soon as they read it. No one is going to hire someone with more experience than they have. In this state, they do not get the opportunity to get high quality experience. It is easy to check average wage in different states for whatever you do, Michigan in in the lowest 2 as far as pay scale, but they forget to tell you, there are no jobs available anyway. I read recently that almost 2/3 of the population does not work. They are not as progressed as other states as far as women are concerned. There is a prevailing 50's mentality.

Think long and hard about this move, because if you get here, run out of savings and depend only on what you can make here, you are basically stuck for life.

No one is ever "stuck" anywhere-the door always swings BOTH ways.
