| GOD, i must be getting old... Posted: 6/21/2006 10:08:21 PM | I remember when cars had carbuerators not fuel injection since fuel injection was something the Germans put in their uber-luxo sedans
I remember when gas was .30.9 cents a litre
I remember when I could bike the 3 miles to town and get a jersey milk, snow white cream soda (in a glass bottle), a full bag of old dutch chips and 5 double bubble bubble gums with cartoons for a dollar.
I remember when Bobby Hull was a hockey player and not some old guy in a beer commercial.
I remember Fiddlesticks at the 'Ex and the Morris Stampede and not those stupid lil donuts. (Fiddlesticks were ice-cream dipped in chocolate and rolled in peanuts)
I remember getting K-Tel LP's and then Cassettes.
I remember Atari, Commodore Vic-20's, and Radio Shack TRS-80 computers and you had to load programs with a cassette (pre big floppy disks).
I still have one of those monstrous microwaves (hasn't quit so why replace it?)
I remember when you could have a full tummy after eating at McDonald's and it didn't cost more than 10 bucks.
I remember when riding in the back of the station wagon was kosher and no seatbelt or helmet legislation was in effect (I survived such negligence OMG).
I remember the first "The Who" farewell tour in 1980, they're doing a tour starting in July I think this is the 4th farewell tour.
I remember going to concerts at the Convention Centre like Aerosmith.
I remember 3 wheelers and how popular when Honda first introduced them in 75.
I remember when 3 wheelers were legislated to not be built anymore in 86.
I remember being able to go on a farmer's field and buy a beat up Plymouth Fury III (1967 vintage) and being able to get plates and insurance for it without a "safety."
I remember going to a Bomber game and paying 5 bucks for a Safeway Family Fun Zone ticket and 2 bucks for parking.
I remember when velcro came out and the hot item was Reeboks with velcro instead of laces.
I remember Kangaroo running shoes, runners with a pocket in it you could put a key or some change in.

| GOD, i must be getting old... Posted: 6/21/2006 10:57:26 PM | Ok so heres the deal...I'm turning 50 soon......ya old fart. I don't feel 40. haha.
So I started thinking(oh oh), if I was to live to 80, its well half over. Why not, when you reach 40, start counting down again.
Like figure it out, if I reach 80, I'm going to be crappin my pants, wearing a diaper, eating Pablum, and wundering what pudding day is anyway.
So next month I turn 40....whooo hooo!!!!!

| GOD, i must be getting old... Posted: 6/23/2006 4:59:20 AM | I'm reaching a milestone myself this year. And honestly - I don't know how to react to it. Haven't done much birthday celebrating in the past few years. And I know that you are only as old/young as you feel, and mostly I'm around my kids age, but it still bugs me. Sooooooo I try not to deal with it lol.
Have an awesum day all - Peace

| GOD, i must be getting old... Posted: 6/23/2006 10:35:51 PM | I think they changed the name of the Ex to Manisphere for Manitoba's Centennial. As well they didn't feel it was an agricultural "Exhibition" anymore. Don't think it ever caught on so eventually they changed it back.
And yes, I must be old cause I remember just about everything mentioned. Egad...better start looking for a cemetary plot.

| GOD, i must be getting old... Posted: 6/24/2006 3:57:58 PM | Want something to make you feel old.... how about 20 16 yr olds running around you house screaming and having a water fight and eating 8 dozen hamburgers and hot dogs and still looking for more food...
As a matter of fact I just happen to know the place you can go to experience this wonderful feeling... MY HOUSE... right now... ughhhh

| GOD, i must be getting old... Posted: 1/6/2008 1:13:35 AM | H ell yeah I remember "Manisphere" and in all honesty the "Tiny Tim" doughnuts were to DIE for. Not those things they call "Those Little Donuts" now......
How about POUND CAKE from the Grill Room at Eaton's?
Throwing a penny in the PADDLEWHEEL at THE BAY when the Paddlewheel actually USED TO TURN and was never turned off. *sigh*
OMG I know some of you will remember THE VILLAGER shoes on Portage Avenue and ummmmm T Trousers was kitty corner across street. I had custom made jeans from T Trousers. LOL
When BIRKS on Portage Avenue was like the "only" place to buy good items that impressed someone....."the little blue box" said it all. The curved staircase was magnificent.
OK, now that you all know I am like totally old.....I have to say we MUST SAVE "The Hudson's Bay company". It is so sad to see the state it is in. It is bad enough Eaton's is gone. I know The Bay has to step up the marketing and make some moves to compete. I still like to shop the flagship store downtown but it's starting to get "tatty". They didn't even have christmas trees completely around the outside this year. I would love to see The Bay a part of Canada forever. We should all think of ideas that we think would improve the old friend and forward them to the Public Relations Department. If there was things we could buy there at a competetive level I think more and more of us would go back there. There is SO MUCH empty floor space now downtown at the store. I think it would be a good idea to set up an area that was like Dollarama with good quality dollar items. I love Dollarama and they have great items....why can't The Bay have an area like that? Old style marketing is Big Ticket Items.....McDonalds became a conglomerate one burger at a time and at that time the burger was 25cents. They had the right idea.
What else.........hmmmmmmmmmm anybody else got any good ideas?

| GOD, i must be getting old... Posted: 1/6/2008 1:30:30 AM | ^^^^ I STILL think Birks is the place to buy jewelery. Well in Winnipeg at least! If I lived in Toronto or New York it would be the other store with the litle blue boxes!
And not all kids are spoiled and don't know that the TV works without a remote. I can still remember my grandma's tv that you had to get up and turn the dial on to change the channel. And her rotary phone. And those enormous microwaves? Yep, there's one in my kitchen. My parents bought it before they moved into this house, which was almost 30 years ago (I think they may have even bought it with the presentation money from their wedding in '75... but don't quote me on that one). We also have the old tube TV my parents bought with the buttons on the top. The old TV had buttons on the bottom and when I was a toddler I used to press them and turn the TV off or change the channel, or worse, turn the volume up really loud, which made me cry (don't ask why I did it). Apparently it only took 3 times for me to do the volume one before my dad decided we had to get a new TV. That thing is huge! Like it's literally a cube. One time we had to take it in to get fixed and my dad could barely fit it in the backseat of the car!
