I wonder where the word Zodiac came from..? Zodiac stems from the Greek term "Zoidia", meaning "Living Being". The ancient belief was that the Signs were literally manifestations of living gods in the sky, even if their function was as channels through which the planets operate in a strictly technical sense.
Well, I wondered have you tried have a relationship or dated someone that JUST SEEMED to fit the description of their particular sign? Just broke out of a relationship about a month ago with a Sun in Aries, Capricorn rising, with Mars and Saturn in Gemini, and unfortunately for me, a Venus in Aquarius. Mostly a wonderful women when I had her attention, but cold-hearted, detached and aloof the rest of the time. Also had issues with determining appropriate interpetsonal boundaries (Saturn in Gemini), which caused countless arguments with a Sun in Virgo over here who likes things in Earthy concrete orderly terms. She had a big independent streak which caused big problems in trying to maintain an active relationship with someone who basically never wanted to see you unless it was her idea. Her Uranus being nearly on the same degree of her Midheaven in Libra certainly did not help matters, as she basically wanted a partner to be at her beck and call, and manipulate (Saturn/Aries) as she saw fit. Did she fit her "signs"? Definately! Too bad I had to suffer to learn how her placements work in real life.
I am a Leo..I think it fits for me..How about you...? Do you think the Zodiac information was right or wrong. Sun in Virgo, Moon in Libra, Ascending in Gemini. Venus in Virgo, in mutual reception with a Mercury in Libra. Most planets in a massive stellium in the 5th house in Libra, and unfortunately a Neptune in Sagittarius at the end of the 6th and on the 7th, squaring my Venus in the 4th in Virgo, AND opposing my Ascendant. In English: relationships are a bit of a struggle for me. LOL.
Being a curious knowledge seeking person (Gemini-rising), who loves to relate to the opposite sex (Stellium in Libra), but is a profound nitpicky know-it-all smart-ellic toward that loved one (Sun/Venus in Virgo) makes for an interesting challenge in finding love.
The "Zodiac Information" is never directly write or wrong, but is dependent on the skill of the astrologer applying the principles to interpret a full chart, not just where the Sun was when you were born, which is what people usually mean when they ask: "What is your Sign?"

And, even if it was the same, I think astrology has zero credibility.

| What do you think about the ZODIAC signs.....? Posted: 10/8/2008 2:59:36 PM | I dabble a bit in astrology but don't know as much as I'd like to. I'm on the cusp of Capricorn/Aquarius but I'm all Aquarius. I learned the hard way that romance between me and Taurus or Scorpio do not mix. In general, I find Scorpios to be waaaaay too needy & jealous for me. Taurus is so slow to make a decision that it drives me insane. And they're very stuck in routines and having things "their way". So while some of my best friends (male and female) are both Scorpio and Taurus, I'll keep them as just friends, thanks!
Lately, I've found myself being drawn to Aries men. Which is good since that's one of my most compatible signs. Social, outgoing, funny, fiery but with a deep introspective side. Sounds good to me!

| What do you think about the ZODIAC signs.....? Posted: 10/8/2008 4:32:58 PM | | As for me-Taurus and Cancer = fight city-don't ask me- Cancer and Libra = looking good-why!? The Kevster...By the way, I love the reasoning behind it all-such intrigue!! | |

| What do you think about the ZODIAC signs.....? Posted: 10/8/2008 4:44:48 PM | I realize some dismiss Astrology as bunk, but I have found so many people fitting the characteristics of their astrological sign to an uncanny degree....
Of course I have also met some people who surprised me because they were nothing at all how they were "supposed to be".... That could be explained away by their rising moon and cusps etc.. but for the most part the zodiac signs have been dead on...
I once read a very descriptive narrative of my sign ( Aquarius) and I was blown away because it described me in such accurate detail .. all the odd nuances down to physical traits! Made me a believer I confess alas I am a "True Aquarian"...

| What do you think about the ZODIAC signs.....? Posted: 10/9/2008 11:35:11 AM | Eh........................................
I pick up bits and pieces, here and there.
I'm a Virgo and, for the most part, it seems to fit me.
Moon is in Capricorn, I think?!?!?!
Anyways, supposedly the Earth signs are supposed to good matches for me....
Especially Capricorns and Taurus.

..the Earth signs are supposed to good matches for me....I'm a Virgo Especially Capricorns and Taurus.
SharkBait, whos feeding you this nonsense?? Capricorns are a total mis match to the ever so wonderful Virgos

| What do you think about the ZODIAC signs.....? Posted: 10/10/2008 7:15:37 AM | | I know I'm a Taurus through and through ( I'm not sure about my sun rising and in what house my moon rests and all that, I'm not THAT into astrology!) and I haven't really found any correlation to zodiac signs and relationships that didn't work. Some of my exes were jerks regardless of their signs! | |

| What do you think about the ZODIAC signs.....? Posted: 10/10/2008 9:05:15 AM | ::shrugs::
I can't be perfect at EVERYTHING!!!
Though I sure as hell try to!
You may have a point there though.
My last two LTRs were both Capricorns.
If I ever get back by the house, I'm gonna have to break out those books on the I.U. course for The Occult, Witchcraft and Magic. See if I learn me something new?!?!?!?

| What do you think about the ZODIAC signs.....? Posted: 10/10/2008 5:35:09 PM | hrm those books won't do you much good being as I am wiccan/eclectic pagan, but man the zodiac from what I have seen/learned/researched is very much a influence...Specially when I decided to check out the signs I am compatible with...like Gemini is astrological hell for me ...that turned out so true and I didn't even know that till after we split...The signs I am compatible with I may not get hooked up with but I stay friends with them and get along very well | |

| What do you think about the ZODIAC signs.....? Posted: 10/10/2008 8:26:23 PM | | IMO I think Zodiac makes pretty good watercraft that are also strong and reliable. The Navy seals use them so they must be good. Can't go wrong with a zodiac! | |

| What do you think about the ZODIAC signs.....? Posted: 10/11/2008 1:27:59 PM | Tivould (message 102 I think?) It's nice to see there are other folks out there who have a knowledge of real astrology. I'm not as interested in it like I used to when I was younger, because I don't want to judge anybody based on anything but my own observations, but it's still fun to think about. I'd rather leave things to fate nowadays, and if a relationship doesn't work, I want to find out my own way, and I usually take something positive from it regardless. I studied astrology for years. Nowadays I use it in the post relationship stages to help me pin down my feelings about breakups and understand what worked and what didn't. It's also the 'shorthand' my best girlfriend and I use. She can say 'he's a Gemini with moon in Cap, conjunct his ascendant' and I know what she's saying.
I'm a Libra with Sagittarius rising, Aries moon, with a grand trine including Venus in Virgo, Mars in Cap, and Saturn in Taurus. The kind of relationship I want to have doesn't come easy to me, I like stability and a traditional relationship, but as a person I am anything but traditional (all that Libra/Sagittarius/9th house makes me an independent thinker). I have a stellium in Libra in the 9th house, giving more emphasis to the Libra/Sag thing I have going with my sun and ascendant. I'm a natural philosopher, scholar of everything. I love personal freedom when I am an uncommitted individual, especially with Aries moon in there, but in relationships I'm rock solid and I'm there when my partner needs me. Men get attracted to the joie de vivre, then when I'm in a relationship it's like, whoa, you want a commitment? Yeah, it's hard to find a man who's both attracted to my personality, and wants a committed traditional-type relationship as well. I still believe in marriage, I believe in being best friends, being truly committed to each other. People misconstrue me and end up thinking I'm modern in relationships and content with an ambiguous relationship, nothing ties me in more knots than ambiguity in romance.
All the air and fire on the surface belies the depth inside, which surprises people. I'm both innocent and guileless, but I have an instinctual wisdom that sometimes shows itself. People can't decide who I am. I confuse myself sometimes.
A prominent Uranus also makes people who are a bit counter-culture really attracted to me (because I am a bit that way myself, although as I age I'm way more 'average'). I tend to attract people who are socially 'not my type' thanks to the Uranus placing, either people a lot older or younger, or people who are miles away physically. The British have a thing for me, unfortunately there's a lot more of them in Britain than there are here in Canada.
I've dated a lot of Virgos, they are my biggest heartbreak because things start out really well but in time they tend to let the wind out of my sails, as they get a bit negative, they worry too much and they get very critical of everything I do, it gets painful. If I ever met a Virgo who wasn't negative, who could just let me be me, I'd be thrilled. Virgos love me but they drag my ebullience down and then nobody's happy because the spirit they were attracted to in the first place is stifled with all the criticism. Libra doesn't need a parent, but a partner and as I'm sure you're aware, Libra love is idealistic. It's Virgo's way of showing care, concern (love) but Libra is clever enough to take care of herself, and Aries moon Sag rising needs the freedom to experience the world in her own way. My Venus helps me understand where they are coming from, but understanding alone doesn't fix a fundamental problem.
My ex husband and a guy I recently dated were Virgos with Moon in Aqua, I won't do that again. Similar to what you said about Venus in Aqua, these men weren't emotionally 'there' but were quite cold and distant emotionally. I'm really happy when a suitor has very little Aquarian influence (Mercury is ok, I like uncannily smart). My ex husband also had a 12th house sun (ughhh) and his Mars and Venus in the 2nd house, what that translated to was that he was a deceptive individual who saw love and sex as a way to benefit financially. With that 12th house sun, he would be whoever you wanted him to be to get there. I'd have to think twice before dating a 12th house sun again.
Whether astrology is true or not doesn't matter, it can still be a valuable tool to understand yourself and everything under the sun, if only by providing fodder for thought, things to consider. That isn't a bad thing. I happily use whatever means at my disposal to know myself and my world.
edit- I'd say sorry for the long post, but I ain't holding a gun to anybody's head making them read it.

| What do you think about the ZODIAC signs.....? Posted: 10/11/2008 4:08:37 PM | I'm not really TOO much into astrology, mainly because I've never taken the time to research it. I don't pay much attention to someone's sign when I date.
With that said, I am a typical Gemini. My last girlfriend is a Gem and we were two peas in a pod together. Unfortunately, our lives pulled us apart, but we're still very close friends.

| What do you think about the ZODIAC signs.....? Posted: 10/13/2008 11:33:20 AM | | I absolutely love astrology. There is one particular sign I will stay away from 1000% been burt 2x by that sign. Never, never again. Of course us arians are purfect lol. | |

| What do you think about the ZODIAC signs.....? Posted: 10/13/2008 4:22:24 PM | | i agree with you on the point that like elements are very comptable, however...how does that work when you are born on the cusp and have traits from both? does this mean i'm compatable with twice as much as most people? | |
|
| What do you think about the ZODIAC signs.....? Posted: 10/15/2008 12:59:17 PM | People born on the cusp do NOT have both signs by default, you are either one or the other. If you are on the cusp of say, Aries and Taurus, you can find out which you really are by your birth time, let's say it turns out to be Aries. But you scratch your head because a lot of Taurus things apply to you? That's because you probably have Mercury, Venus, or maybe the moon or ascendant in Taurus. I think all people born on a cusp should go to www.astro.com and insert your birth time and place, and get your full chart. That site is the 'industry standard' of astrology websites, and it has a ton of information for free. Their interpretations are the best I've seen on the net. I'm not a shill, the website is based in Switzerland and I do not work for them or anything. But I've been a part of several astrology forms before, and it is the defacto starting point for anyone who wants to know more.
Also, compatibility by element is a bit of a fallacy too. While it's possible that earth signs will have a sympathy with each other, same with air, fire, and water, that's akin to saying that all people from China get along, or all people from Wales. It's like saying that all women in the age 25-40 age group get along. It's really simplified and often isn't really true.
I don't get along better with air signs, I probably get along best with fire or water. Water because I don't have much of it in my chart, and so the opposites attract thing comes into play. Fire because we have a mutual sympathy, I have several planets in fire. But really it isn't as simple as all that.
I seriously think a lot of people should do their chart at astro.com, it's really entertaining at least, and to a lot of people it's really interesting (and hey, it's free). And like I say, you might not believe in this crazy astrology (I'm not even sure I do, sometimes) but it can bring things to your attention anyway, and you can learn a lot about yourself.
