I'm glad you asked this because I have the same problem. not sure if I should breastfeed or not in front of others. I'm okay with it and really have no problem doing it in front of other people, but wondered what the "ettiquette" about this really was.

To other posters.. taking a bottle of expressed milk isn't always going to work, my baby won't take a bottle at all.. it's me or nothing ;)

well fist off, seeing that you 19, pdds are that the guy you're heading out with might be the same age...or close (just a guess) That being said, I bring myself back to when I was 19...you know giggling when I would see boobies !!! why don't you just ask him ? otherwise play it safe and head into a nursing station ! that way it'll give you some time to relax (in the shade)!

I NEVER have my kids around any women I date until we are secure with each other. 6 months min. Only two have met my children. Kids become attached quickly and are confused easily, which can hurt them. Best to change the date to a time you can be alone without affecting your children. IMO.

I have no problems feeding in public, but I'm not sure if it's something that maybe might make him feel uncomfortable.

It's a date - the whole purpose is to try to get to know each other.

I wouldn't just whip it out to try to impress him, no - but if you would *normally* breastfeed your child if you were at the zoo, then do so.

Be yourself.

I really think you should consult with him... for one thing, he's bringing his 3 y.o. too... He might not have a problem with it, but he MIGHT have a problem with his kid seeing someone breastfeed... just a thought.

People that say that you should dump him if he has a problem with you breastfeeding in public are just plain stupid. Not everyone is as liberated as those on this message board, and might just have a problem with people whipping out their boobs in the zoo to breast feed.
